Muscat: Wadi Al Shab, one of Oman's most scenic escapes is set for a transformative tourism boost with the launch of a major adventure park, featuring a zip line, mountain climbing trails, suspension bridges, walking trails, swimming zones, and a variety of restaurants and cafés.
The project was announced as part of a set of three usufruct contracts worth more than OMR56 million, signed on Sunday by Salim Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, aimed at bolstering the Sultanate's tourism infrastructure.
The Wadi Al Shab development, which will be undertaken by OMRAN Group, is designed to turn the breathtaking valley in the Wilayat of Sur into a year-round adventure and eco-tourism destination. The contract was signed by Hashil Obaid Al Mahrouqi, CEO of OMRAN Group.
Wadi Al Shab stands out for its exceptional biodiversity, geological wonders, and flowing waters. With this project, OMRAN Group aims to elevate it into a leading destination that blends nature, recreation, and sustainability.
The new adventure park is expected to appeal to both domestic and international visitors, offering activities for thrill-seekers and families alike.
From adrenaline-pumping zip lines and rugged climbing trails to serene walking paths and natural swimming spots for children and adults, the development promises an immersive outdoor experience. Complementing the adventure offerings will be a range of cafés and restaurants designed to enhance visitor comfort and extend their stay.
Wadi Al Shab has long been celebrated for its turquoise pools, hidden caves, and dramatic cliffs. The new project is expected to preserve these natural features while adding structured access and facilities that encourage sustainable exploration.
In addition to Wadi Al Shab, two more deals were inked for integrated tourism complexes on Sunday.
Sandan – Khasab Pearl, in the Wilayat of Khasab, will be developed by the Khasab Development and Investment Company over 43,658 square metres. It includes a 200-room 4-star hotel, 450 residential units available for Omani and foreign ownership, a heritage market, and multiple entertainment and dining options. The contract was signed by Hilal Nasser Al Harthy, Managing Director of Khasab Development and Investment Company.
Hamyan Village, in Halban, Wilayat of Nakhl, will span over 201,000 square metres and feature a 156-room 4-star hotel, 535 residential units including apartments and villas, a market, restaurants, a water park, and supporting facilities. The contract was signed by Saud Hamad Al Ta'ei, Managing Director of Hamyan Investment and Project Development Company.
The contracts mark a major step in Oman's ongoing efforts to diversify its economy through tourism, aligning with Oman Vision 2040. The Ministry confirmed that all three projects are being designed with a focus on sustainability, cultural preservation, and local job creation. -ONA

Fruit harvests and heritage sites boost Wakan Village tourism

Nakhal – Wakan Village in Wadi Mistal in Nakhal recorded 27,428 visitors between January and July this year, up from 24,093 during the same period in 2024, according to official statistics. The data includes tourists from Oman and abroad, reflecting the village's growing appeal as a year-round destination. Moatasem bin Nasser al Hilali, Director of Heritage and Tourism Department in South Batinah, attributed the increase in number of visitors to the variety of attractions on offer. 'The village offers a range of experiences that make it a sustainable and appealing destination throughout the year,' he said. Summer draws significant numbers due to mild weather and seasonal fruit. Apricots are picked from early June, followed by peaches, figs and pomegranates in July. In August, grape varieties such as Muqdamani, Malasi and Sur are harvested, attracting more visitors, particularly during holidays and weekends. The opening of Wakan View Cafe, the third eatery in the village, has added to its appeal. Tourists can also stay in a guest house, hike along agricultural trails and trek ancient mountain paths, activities that attract adventure seekers from around the world. Wakan Village is also home to archaeological and historical landmarks, including an ancient mosque, an old neighbourhood and centuries-old agricultural terraces, offering visitors a glimpse into its rich heritage.

Hydrom announces new incentives to ensure delivery-readiness of green hydrogen projects

Muscat: Hydrom has announced new fiscal incentives designed to enhance the commercial viability of projects that will be awarded through the ongoing third green hydrogen auction round. The measures represent a targeted response to a market sounding exercise conducted by Hydrom earlier this year and evolving global market dynamics, reaffirming the country's position as one of the world's most structured and investment-ready hydrogen ecosystems. The new incentive includes a 90% reduction in land lease fees during the development stage with potential for further relief during the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase, alongside significant reductions in base royalties during the initial years of production, and Corporate Tax exemptions for up to 10 years. Together, these measures are designed to support early-stage project economics, improve internal rates of return, and facilitate accelerated progress towards final investment decisions. Eng. Abdulaziz Al Shidhani, Managing Director of Hydrom said. 'The global hydrogen landscape is entering a phase of consolidation, with developers prioritizing jurisdictions that provide regulatory certainty, strong project economics, and credible offtake potential. The newly introduced incentives reflect Hydrom's proactive approach to evolving market dynamics, reaffirming Oman's position as a delivery-focused, investment-ready destination for large-scale hydrogen development.' Designed with flexibility, transparency, and scalability at its core, Oman's third auction round is progressing with strong momentum, offering a land block of up to300 square kilometers in Duqm and inviting proposals for projects covering a minimum of 100 square kilometers. Bidders have the flexibility in defining their project footprint within the block, enabling tailored configurations that align with individual development strategies and market requirements. To date, almost 100 registrations have been received from major industry players and consortia across the green hydrogen value chain. This strong market response underscores a sustained appetite for structured, policy-backed green hydrogen development opportunities. Round 3 continues to attract serious first movers and institutional investors seeking to scale up operations in a competitive and structured environment. The Statement of Qualification (SoQ) submission window remains open until 31 October 2025, and Hydrom encourages all interested parties to register and submit their documents via the dedicated platform. To support the formation of strong consortia in Round 3, Hydrom will launch an updated consortium matchmaking list, an established tool that has successfully connected qualified participants seeking strategic project partnerships.

With over 356 commercial stalls, the market showcases Omani-made goods, handicrafts, traditional cuisine, and heritage artifacts that reflect the nation's cultural identity. The site includes the Frankincense Market, supervised by Dhofar Municipality, which attracts large numbers of visitors during the Khareef (monsoon) season. Here, visitors can learn about the extraction and varied uses of frankincense, alongside displays of traditional handicrafts, local foods, and heritage products offered by families and SMEs from across the governorate. Salim Abdullah Fadil, supervisor of the Frankincense Market's family products section, noted that this year's market has seen a significant influx of visitors amid an atmosphere infused with the scent of Omani frankincense, vibrant heritage displays, and live artistic performances. More than 300 local families are participating, presenting authentic Omani crafts, foods, and products.
