Sheriff's office pays tribute after local dispatcher dies
A local sheriff's office honored a dispatcher who died earlier this month.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office said dispatcher Nicole Elliott's 'dedication, strength, and service will never be forgotten, according to a social media post.
Her online obituary stated that she passed away on April 2 at 40 years old.

Elliott served as the Executive Director of the Clark County Communications Center.
She received several awards during her time at the Clark County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office said this about Elliott on its Facebook page:
'She was more than a dispatcher; she was a lifeline, a steady presence for officers, first responders, and the community. Even in the toughest moments, Nicole answered the call. We carry her memory with us every day, and this week especially, we celebrate the incredible impact she made. Thank you, Nicole, for your service and your sacrifice. You are missed, and you are remembered.'
Nicole Elliott is survived by her parents, her husband, and two sons.

5 hospitalized after car submerges into pond, OSHP says
Several people were hospitalized after a vehicle went into a retention pond Thursday night. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Officers, state troopers, and medics responded at around 6:25 p.m. to the area of U.S. 40 and Park West Drive on reports of a vehicle into a pond, according to West Jefferson Police Brandon Smith. Merrill Thompson told our news partner, WBNS-TV in Columbus, that people saw the vehicle traveling westbound in the left lane before slowly driving in the right lane, off the road, and into a pond. The driver reportedly got out of the vehicle, and a trooper rescued a child before the car sank. Lt. Thompson told WBNS that another person was rescued before the car was fully submerged. It is currently unknown when the other two people got out of the vehicle, according to OSHP. 'Multiple fire departments responded to the scene, providing critical assistance with rescue operations and the transportation of victims to area hospitals,' said Chief Smith. Medics transported three people to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus with 'non-life-threatening injuries,' WBNS said. Drugs, cheeseburgers: Raid inside Fulton County Jail reveals contraband operation, officials say
Deputies and detention officers conducted a raid Thursday inside the main jail in northwest Atlanta and uncovered a contraband operation at the jail annex in Union City. Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Mark Winne got exclusive access to the raid. The shakedown was a rapid response to something discovered outside the jail that alarmed the Fulton County Sheriff's Office – a large hole cut in the fence. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] 'Just doing regular security rounds, I got on the shift and came back here and discovered this,' said a law enforcement official. In all, three holes were found in three levels of fencing surrounding the complex. Chief Jailer Jarrett Gorlin says they found makeshift fishing line in a cell already closed because someone had burned a hole in the window. He said they were using it to reel in the contraband from outside. Gorlin says inmates commonly use wires in lighting fixtures and pieces of metal ripped from the jail interior to melt holes in cell windows. 'More than likely from last night's load, these are cigarettes that they pack in socks, copious amounts of what appears to be marijuana, cell phone, more homemade shanks, and what they use to burn the windows out,' he said. The sheriff's office says the main jail on Rice Street was not the only facility affected. On Wednesday morning, a deputy assisted by Union City police arrested three people laying down by a hole in the fence at the jail's south annex with bolt cutters nearby. They had a bag containing cigarettes, marijuana, cell phones, candy, vapes, phone chargers, cheeseburgers and more. Child flown to hospital after being hit by car in Greene Co.
A child was flown to the hospital after a crash in Greene County. Around 7 p.m., Greene County Sheriff's Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers were called to the 4200 block of Hussey Road for a crash. An OSP sergeant confirmed a child was hit by a car and flown to Dayton Children's Hospital. Troopers said the driver was taken to their post for questioning. We will continue to follow this story.
