Zuma changes his stance on Morocco and Western Sahara situation
The former State president recently visited Morocco, where he supported the country's bid to have Western Sahara absolved as a province under it.
At a media briefing in Sandton on Friday, the party reaffirmed its position.
The South African government's long-standing foreign policy position is for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara and for Morocco to stop its occupation of the desert region.
This is a policy position Zuma supported in both his two terms as a State and African National Congress (ANC) president.
However, his spokesperson, Magasela Mzobe, said that position has proven to be ineffective.
'Any functioning mind changes his position when presented with new facts, scientific facts and new realities.'
Mzobe has denied allegations that the MK Party is receiving funding from the Moroccan government.

Last year, the two men met to discuss the potential operation of Elon Musk's internet satellite service, Starlink, in the country. In images posted by the president, Musk was seen smiling while shaking his hand. South Africa is one of a few African countries that has not granted Elon Musk's internet satellite service, Starlink, a licence to operate. According to the world's richest man, this is a result of 'racist laws', which require his company to adhere to a 30% local ownership mandate. The Pretoria-born billionaire is referring to the transformative legislation, Black Economic Empowerment (BEE), which he has reportedly rejected. According to reports, Starlink, which falls under SpaceX, could effectively bypass the law with its plans to invest over R2 billion in the country. Business Day reports that the company would finance infrastructure to support the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which is made up of 16 countries. Without mentioning Starlink or Elon Musk, the minister claimed that the policy would 'attract investment,' specifically in operating licensing. The minister revealed that current legislation for foreign investments 'did not allow companies to contribute to transformation goals in ways other than traditional ownership'. He made this announcement during a public consultation in Midrand on Saturday afternoon. ALSO READ: • Shivumbu says he's accepted his termination from MK Party, won't appeal decision • MK Party terminates Floyd Shivambu's membership Shivambu has been engaging South Africans across the country to gauge public opinion on whether he should form a political organisation. While the consultation process is still underway, Shivambu said that his movement would participate in next year's municipal polls regardless. "We will contest the local government elections in 2026 and we will contest the general elections in 2029 and we will win. However, that is not the only thing we must focus on. If we just become an electoral platform, we might as well not do it." [WATCH] Although the 'Mayibuye Consultation Process' is still ongoing, Floyd Shivambu has confirmed the movement will contest the 2026 local government elections.
