National Bank releases Jókai commemorative coin
On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Mór Jókai's birth, the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) issued commemorative coins.
These are a silver commemorative coin with a face value of 20,000 forints and a non-ferrous metal commemorative coin with a face value of 3,000 forints. Jókai was one of the most important writers of Hungarian literature. With the commemorative coins, the MNB is honouring the great 'Hungarian storyteller' and his cultural heritage.
The Ministry of Culture launched the Jókai Year of Culture on Tuesday with a series of programmes throughout the Carpathian Basin. The cult of Jókai, which still flourishes in the Carpathian Basin, is fuelled by the author's work, which includes more than a hundred novels, a thousand short stories and thousands of newspaper articles, as well as by the classic films and stage plays based on his novels, Minister Balázs Hankó said at the opening of the Jókai Year in Balatonfüred on Tuesday.

Áder: Reversing unfavorable ecological changes should be addressed
The 10th Planet Lens International Photo and Film Festival on Nature Conservation and Sustainability will be held in Veszprem, in central Hungary, between May 15-18. Former Hungarian President János Áder said that, besides problems, ways to reverse unfavorable ecological changes should also be addressed. In the latest episode of his Blue Planet environmental podcast, he discussed the 10th Planet Lens International Photo and Film Festival on Nature Conservation and Sustainability, to be held in Veszprem, in central Hungary, between May 15-18. His guest, Ákos Gózon, the chairman of the festival's jury, said that entries have been made from 45 countries and will be shown in four categories. Those include full-length classic nature and environmental films, animations, short films and in a separate category, titles presenting the treasures of the Carpathian Basin. Gózon noted that the festival will also feature issues further away from home, such as an Indonesian film showing a mother and her child discussing the future or another presenting changes in the Swedish landscape as seen through the eyes of a Hungarian. The main theme of the festival is biodiversity, said Gózon.

President Sulyok: Culture is what allows a community to survive
The president called the Csángó Ball a meeting point for the Csángó Hungarians returning home to Hungary and those "longing to be in Csángó Land in spirit". President Tamás Sulyok said culture is what allows a community to survive. 'And this is essential for the Csángó communities that are seriously exposed to the threat of assimilation and are at risk of disappearing,' President Sulyok said in his address at the 28th Csángó Ball in Budapest on Saturday. The president called the Csángó Ball a meeting point for the Csángó Hungarians returning home to Hungary and those 'longing to be in Csángó Land in spirit'. President Sulyok said the ball also offered an opportunity for the people of the 21st century to get acquainted with centuries-old Hungarian folk music.
