Low-to-moderate income Hoosiers can now apply to the Indiana Energy Saver Program to save money and make their home more energy efficient.
The Indiana Office of Energy Development launched the $182 million federally funded program last week, aimed at reducing utility costs, improving home comfort and boosting energy efficiency for homeowners, tenants, landlords and contractors.
According to the release, this first-come, first-served program aligns with Indiana Gov. Mike Braun's mission to enhance affordability and promote sustainable living across the state.
'Cutting energy costs is at the very heart of what we are focused on,' Braun said in the release. 'The Indiana Energy Saver Program prioritizes practical solutions to improve energy affordability and deliver quality products.'
Starting this summer, eligible applicants can receive a no-cost energy audit to find potential energy-saving improvements. Following the audit, participants can access two rebate programs: the Home Efficiency Rebate and the Home Appliance Rebate. Each rebate amount depends on household income and project type.
The HOMES program funds energy efficiency upgrades including insulation, air sealing, duct sealing, and Energy Star-certified heating, cooling, water heaters, appliances and lighting. Low-income households earning less than 80% of the county's area median income can receive rebates up to 100% of project costs.
The HEAR program targets households earning less than 150% of the area median income. It provides subsidies for energy-efficient appliances and systems such as heat pump water heaters, HVAC systems, clothes dryer, electric stoves, cooktops, ranges, ovens and electrical system enhancements.
'The Indiana Office of Energy Development is committed to affordable energy solutions to all Hoosiers,' said Jon Ford, executive director of IOED. 'The Indiana Energy Saver Program is an important instrument in our all of the above strategy that strengthens our efforts to decrease energy costs and enhance home comfort for consumers.'
The IOED is partnering with Vincent Village, Inc., a Fort Wayne organization that provides housing and supportive services for families experiencing homelessness. Together, they are launching the program's first pilot project, investing $60,000 to upgrade four homes with energy efficient improvements.

The Sports Bra, West Coast sports bar known for showing only women's sports, coming to Indy

A West Coast-based sports bar is branching out to Indianapolis, and Hoosiers largely have the Indiana Fever to thank. The Sports Bra, a Portland, Oregon-based sports bar known for exclusively showing women's sports on its TVs, announced in a press release June 3 that it will be opening franchise locations in Indianapolis, Boston, Las Vegas and St. Louis. In the news release, Sports Bra founder and CEO Jenny Nguyen said the four cities' professional women's sports teams and fan bases made them attractive destinations for franchises, forming a "starting five" with the brand's Portland eatery, which opened in 2022. "Together, we're serving fans nationwide who are hungry for spaces that not only champion women's sports, but create a community where everyone feels like they belong," Nguyen said. "There is no better moment than this to open these places." The release did not specify a location for an Indianapolis Sports Bra nor a timeline for opening. Indianapolis found itself at the center of the women sports world last year after the Fever used the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft to select Caitlin Clark, a sharpshooting phenom from Iowa whose ascent to superstardom has coincided with massive jumps in women's sports viewership, revenues and financial investment. The Sports Bra has ridden that wave to expansion; since opening in 2022, the brand has received investments from the 776 Foundation, a fellowship program started by tech entrepreneur and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, who is also the husband of tennis legend Serena Williams. Hoosiers can expect familiar sports bar fare at the Sports Bra like burgers, appetizers and a full bar, with options for a wide variety of dietary preferences including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, non-alcoholic and dairy-free offerings, according to the news release. While Fever games could take center stage in Indy during the WNBA season, the bar also purports to show effectively every televised women's college sport. Each of the four new Sports Bra locations will be locally owned and operated with food from nearby producers and "support their hometown teams" with decorations and team memorabilia, the release said.

Lincoln Avenue Communities Breaks Ground on Affordable Housing Development in Arvada, Colorado

Business and community leaders joined LAC to break ground on Marshall Pointe Apartments. ARVADA, Colo. , June 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Lincoln Avenue Communities (LAC), a mission-driven acquirer and developer of affordable housing, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony last week at the future site of Marshall Pointe Apartments, a four-story, 260-unit affordable housing community in Arvada, Colorado expected to begin leasing in September 2026. "We are proud to commence work today on LAC's second ground-up development in the Denver metro area," said Ben Taylor, LAC vice president and project partner. "Marshall Pointe will provide high-quality, affordable housing for families in one of Colorado's fastest-growing communities." Comprised of mostly one- and two-bedroom units, Marshall Pointe will lease its units to residents earning between 30% and 70% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Communal amenities will include two courtyards: one for adults featuring a covered dining area, hammock grove, flex lawn space, and lush landscaping; and one for children including a climbing wall, playground, movie wall, and garden. Additional indoor amenities include a fitness center, game room, package and mail rooms, and a lounge with a kitchenette. All units will be equipped with stainless steel Energy Star appliances, balconies, walk-in closets, linen closets, and hard-surface countertops. LAC is partnering with Family Tree, a non-profit human services agency in the Denver Metro Area, to offer full-time permanent supportive housing (PSH) at the site for all 13 units at the property, including eight that will have Project-Based Housing Choice Vouchers from the Arvada Housing Authority (AHA). As a result of the partnership with LAC, residents at Family Tree's nearby under development supportive housing property will have the opportunity to move to Marshall Pointe when ready, creating a Corridor of Housing Advancement between the sites and supporting long-term residency in the area. The project was financed in partnership with AHA and the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA), which provided Federal and Colorado State Tax Credits, along with the permanent financing. Additionally, the Colorado Department of Local Affairs provided $5 million of bridge funding for the land acquisition through their Operation Turn Key program, which allowed LAC to acquire the land 18 months ahead of the construction finance closing. Additional partners include the National Equity Fund (NEF) and JP Morgan Chase. About LAC: Lincoln Avenue Communities (LAC) is one of the nation's fastest-growing developers, investors, and operators of affordable and workforce housing, providing high-quality, sustainable homes for lower- and moderate-income individuals, seniors, and families nationwide. LAC is a mission-driven organization with a presence in 28 states and a portfolio of 170+ properties comprising 30,500+ units housing 80,000+ residents.
