Fourth scare in 36 hours: Air India Express flight takes U-turn to Delhi; was on way to Ranchi
NEW DELHI: A Ranchi-bound Air India Express flight was diverted back to Delhi on Monday after technical issue was suspected. This is the fourth such incident in the last 36 hours when a flight faced emergency issues mid-air.
The flight was scheduled to land at Birsa Munda Airport at 6.20pm.
"One of our flights returned to Delhi after takeoff due to a suspected technical issue. Post inspections and clearance, the aircraft continued scheduled operations," Air India Express spokesperson said.
Other such incidents included a British F-35 fighter jet making an emergency landing in Kerala due to low fuel on Sunday, a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Hyderabad turning back mid-air following a bomb threat, and an Air India flight from Hong Kong to Delhi returning to its point of origin after a suspected technical snag on Monday.

Increased flying hours mean higher operational costs as aircraft have to burn more fuel. This ups the price of tickets," he added. Another tour operator, Joy Masroor, said, "The viral visuals of the Ahmedabad flight crash have impacted the minds of prospective travellers. At least 40-50 travel groups, both to domestic and international travel destinations like Dubai and Singapore have cancelled trips. Many have also cancelled their trips as the flights scheduled were operated by Boeing, the flight model involved in the Ahmedabad accident. " "This year has been challenging for us. Right from the Pahalgam attack in April, to the tensions between India and Pakistan in May, and now the dual dilemma of Ahmedabad and Iran has hit our business," he lamented. Meanwhile, no major change in passenger footfall has been witnessed at the Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi. Most tickets are being booked by officials, businessmen, and students, sources said. A student travelling from the state capital to Bangalore for engineering degree on Monday, Aditya Shekhar, said, "I was really scared when my flight from Ranchi to Bangalore today was hit by turbulences. I had to opt for flight as my admission is due on Tuesday. Luckily, I landed safely in Bangalore."

Air India ends Imphal operations, AI Express to take over
Guwahati: Amid operational difficulties and technical issues causing significant delays at Guwahati airport over two days, Air India ceased full-service operations from Imphal International Airport in the northeast from Monday. Officials indicated this was a strategic decision. While AAI senior officials noted increased precautionary aircraft inspections across the country, including the northeast, aviation sector sources clarified that Air India's withdrawal from Imphal stemmed from strategic considerations rather than security or technical issues. An aviation industry source said services ended on Monday due to route optimisation. The source added that Air India's budget carrier, Air India Express, intends to operate these previously served routes from Imphal International Airport. "In non-metro cities like Imphal, Air India Express offers more suitable fares that match the budget of the flyers. Air India Express is planning to gradually take over those routes on which Air India services were discontinued from Imphal. It stated that on Monday, the additional flight on Guwahati-Hyderabad departed at 12:40 pm. "The regular service on Guwahati-Hyderabad departed on time today at its usual time of 13:40. The aircraft was a Boeing 737-8," it added. The Imphal International Airport authorities penned an emotional note on Sunday evening, calling it "Farewell to a Legacy: Final Moments of Air India at Imphal International Airport." "As it took its final departure, an era of Air India operations at Imphal came to a close," read the note on its social media page.
