Cruise worker reveals major mistake most vacationers make without realizing it: ‘One of the worst things that could happen'

Always come prepared.
Nothing is worse than finally embarking on a cruise ship vacation that you had planned for months — only to get there and make a mistake that could potentially ruin the rest of your trip.
Thankfully, expert Alley Kerr, a dancer and singer who has worked on more than 100 cruise ships and now writes travel content on her site Wanderlust Alley, gave insight into the one mistake cruise goers often make that can be easily prevented.
If you've ever been on a cruise before — you know just how chaotic the first day is.
'…That's the day that everybody is trying to book their shore excursions, trying to get their internet sorted, trying to book restaurants and any extra add-ons,' she told the Independent.
Kerr recommended that people plan excursions well in advance before they even set foot on the cruise.

'…if you can avoid waiting for embarkation day and get it done in advance, your life is going to be so much easier.'
As the saying goes — failure to prepare is preparing to fail. So, waiting to book excursions and other fun activities at the ports the cruise is stopping at is where most cruise rookies go wrong.
'People who have never cruised before often get on the ship and then suddenly at the end of the day, they're like, 'Oh, everything's sold out,'' she told the outlet.
'I feel that this is one of the worst things that could happen, because you've missed out. There's limited availability for a lot of things.'
Many cruise rookies often make the mistake of waiting to board the ship before planning out the rest of their vacation.

And no one wants to be stuck going down the water slide for the 109th time to keep themselves occupied while the ship is docked and everyone is off having fun.
Passengers on a recent Celebrity Cruises vacation had a flub in their travel plans — but unfortunately, it was completely out of their control and had nothing to do with planning.
The Celebrity Constellation lost power for three hours due to a technical issue while on an 11-night Mediterranean voyage.
Passengers were stuck on the massive ship without lighting, air conditioning, toilets and kitchen facilities.
Although it was confirmed to USA Today by a Royal Caribbean Group spokesperson — the parent company of Celebrity Cruises — that the loss of power was caused by a technical issue, no other details were provided.

Hawaii's New Tourism Tax Is Meant to Combat Climate Change Costs

As Hawaii nears the second anniversary of the devastating Maui wildfires, it's rolling out an unprecedented measure to offset climate change costs—and it's targeting tourists' wallets. Starting January 1, 2026, the Aloha State's 10 million annual visitors will face a slightly higher price tag: a new 'green fee,' raising Hawaii's tourism tax from 10.25 percent to 11 percent, Bloomberg reported. The extra charge—averaging about $2 per visitor per day—is expected to generate $100 million annually, all of which will be funneled directly into environmental restoration and climate mitigation efforts, from coral reef rehabilitation to fire-prevention projects. More from Robb Report Late Colts Owner Jim Irsay's Lavish Indiana Estate Lists for $12 Million Egypt's $1 Billion Archeological Museum Will Finally Open This Fall This $6.6 Million London Townhouse Delivers Playful Sophistication Near Hyde Park The bill, championed by Governor Josh Green, marks the first dedicated climate fee on tourism in the United States. Its passage follows years of stalled attempts in the legislature, but the 2023 fires, which caused over $5.5 billion in damages, ignited public support. 'Those fires profoundly awakened our state,' Green said, according to Bloomberg. 'The reality [is] that we have to have a mechanism to mitigate risk and prepare for future potential disasters.' Hawaii's approach contrasts with typical tourist taxes that often fund infrastructure or marketing. Instead, the new levy places sustainability at the center of travel economics, part of a growing global trend that includes destinations like Venice and Bhutan, where tourism fees are increasingly used as tools for conservation and crowd control. Green's plan also includes phasing out the Hawaii Tourism Authority, replacing it with a nonprofit Destination Stewardship Organization aimed at prioritizing local values, sustainability, and community engagement over mass-market promotion. While some tourists have resisted what they're calling a 'surf tax,' the move has received widespread support from Hawaii's hospitality sector. 'The visitor industry relies on Hawaii's natural environment, and we aren't doing enough to protect it,' University of Hawaii economist Carl Bonham told Bloomberg. 'This bill had significant support from the hotel industry, because the money is being reinvested in something that's going to protect the tourism industry.' Yet, concerns remain. Critics worry that layering new fees atop existing permits and reservations could erode local spending, a broader issue echoed in other destinations responding to rising overtourism through taxes and regulation. In certain tourist hot spots like Paris, Barcelona, and London, it's unclear if travel regulations are even accomplishing their intended goals. Still, Governor Green believes Hawaii's green fee may offer a roadmap for other U.S. states facing escalating climate costs. 'It's probably different for everyone,' he told Bloomberg, 'but I expect other places . . . to do some version of this.' If Hawaii succeeds in tying tourism to long-term environmental stewardship, it may set a new gold standard for responsible travel in the climate age. Charlamagne Tha God Blesses Donald Trump With Donkey of The Day Following Truth Social Rant

Source: Getty Images / Charlamagne Tha God / Donald Trump We all knew it was coming. Charlamagne Tha God clapped back at Donald Trump by giving him 'Donkey of the Day.' It didn't take long, but on Monday, Charlamagne Tha God kicked off The Breakfast Club's work week by responding to Felon 47. Before he went in on Trump, he started off the Donkey of the Day segment by blasting YG's Donald Trump protest record 'FDT' before accusing the current occupant of the White House of using him and other ridiculous things to distract from important issues after Trump called the radio host a 'racist sleazebag.' We care about your data. See our privacy policy. The Breakfast Club host pointed out in his retort that he didn't bring up race once while he was blasting Trump's 'big beautiful bill,' which the radio host, born Lenard McKelvey, admitted he would benefit from because of his tax bracket, but notes will harm millions of Americans. Charlamagne also slammed Trump and Homeland Security for terrorizing, detaining, and deporting lawfully residing immigrants while contributing, and also his unjust firing of Labor Statistics Chief Erika McEntarfer after she just did her job, reported on the terrible job numbers. While everyone was happy to hear Charlamagne call out Trump again, some folks didn't appreciate him still 'both-siding' the conversation by bringing up Joe Biden in his takedown of Orange Mussolini. 'Here's my issue he was playing contrarian and both sides so hard that the orange man used him in one of his ads. He directly has blood on his hands so Lenard put himself & worse others into the current state of affairs,' a post on X, formerly Twitter. Fair. You can see more reactions below. Howard Stern's show may be ending. Now's the time to put it out of its misery

Just pull the plug already. It's time. In fact, it's past time. The body is barely breathing. Yes, 'The Howard Stern Show' on SiriusXM is reportedly limping toward its final destination. The former shock jock's $500 million contract, which he signed in 2020, is up in the fall; according to the US Sun, there's a good chance he'll be offered less money than he wants to renew. While there's no official confirmation the show will end, it should go the way of Stephen Colbert's farce of a late-night show. 6 In October 2024, Howard Stern interviewed presidential hopeful Kamala Harris and took 'Saturday Night Live' to task for making a few jokes at her expense. @sternshow/X This isn't dancing on the grave of someone's career. It's merely acknowledging reality: Stern, 71, was paid all that 'scarole to be edgy, relevant and interesting — something he hasn't been in years. Certainly not since he enlisted in the cult of woo-woo therapization and disavowed so much of his best work, including pulling bawdy confessions from image-conscious bold-facers. No more jokes about masturbating to Aunt Jemima. No more feuds with celebs like Chevy Chase and Kathie Lee Gifford. No more release-valve humor during some of our country's darkest events. Or the inclination to be raw and unfiltered. 6 Howard Stern as his alter ego Fartman, at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards. Getty Images Once a swashbuckling, norms-shattering FCC antagonist, Stern has morphed into everything he formerly railed against. When it comes to celebrities, he can't fawn over them enough now. Stern's a first-class, A-list 'Ass Smoochio,' a nickname he gave Arsenio Hall back in the day. Last summer, Stern — overestimating his own influence — made things even worse by entering the presidential media circus to sit down with a clearly diminished Joe Biden. 6 Howard Stern with Madonna and his sidekick Robin Quivers. Kevin Mazur The old Stern would have spent 30 minutes at least on the gaffe-prone president's mythical neighborhood gang leader and overall 'bad dude' Corn Pop. Instead, he marveled over Scranton Joe's high-school football exploits. He called Biden's family — which consists of a crackhead son he later pardoned and a grandchild he didn't acknowledge until the New York Times bullied him into it — 'extraordinary.' Stern even offered this profundity: 'You're the kind of leader I love … we're lucky to have you in the Oval Office.' Fartman would never. 6 Howard Stern and his second wife, Beth Ostrosky Stern, at a North Shore Animal League event. Getty Images Not only did the fawning interview make Biden look like a doddering old man, it made Stern look positively impotent. Stern sank even lower when he interviewed Biden's replacement, Kamala Harris. 'When I met you out in the hall, I said, 'I'm really nervous because I want this to go well for you,'' Stern said. He then whined about 'Saturday Night Live' parodying Harris. 'I hate it. I don't want you being made fun of,' Stern told her. 'There's too much at stake. I believe the entire future of this country right now … it's literally on the line.' 6 Shock jock Stern with co-host Robin Quivers in 1995. Getty Images Imagine that. A man who built an empire off of mocking powerful people thought that the potential president of the United States shouldn't have to suffer a few jokes at her expense — something that actually works to humanize a candidate. To call it malpractice would be kind. Meanwhile, Stern's loyal audience, who dutifully renewed their Sirius subscriptions, are fair game for his wrath. 6 Howard Stern helped SiriusXM become the powerhouse that it is today. Getty Images Locking himself away in a two-year Covid quarantine, he derided listeners for daring to go outside and live their lives, calling them 'stupid' for not sharing his ideology. 'I hate the people who vote for [Trump],' he said last September. 'I think they're stupid. I do. I'll be honest with you, I have no respect for you.' SiriusXM essentially built its initial subscriber base on the back of the one-time 'King of all Media,' who in 2006 left terrestrial radio and the constraints of the FCC. That deal was reportedly worth $100 million a year and made him a very wealthy man. Nearly 20 years on, the once-mighty monarch looks like a minor jester. Meanwhile, the media and entertainment landscape has been radically reshaped by an over-abundance of podcasts. There are a gazillion hosts doing what Stern once did — and many doing it much better. It's time for the retirement tour.
