Khaleej Times14-03-2025

A new cinematic trailer of F1 was released to the world last night. Starring Brad Pitt, Apple Original Films' F1 will be distributed in theatres globally beginning June 25, and in North America on June 27.
With 29 days of production happening in Abu Dhabi at the world-famous Yas Marina Circuit, Zayed International Airport and twofour54 Studios at Yas Creative Hub, cast including Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon and Javier Bardem, along with an international production team, were supported by a local crew of 284 and the team at Epic Films, 15 young local interns and Abu Dhabi Film Commission under its rebate scheme.
F1 is one of 170 major productions supported by the Abu Dhabi Film Commission since the introduction of the rebate in 2013.
The movie hails from director/producer Joseph Kosinski, Jerry Bruckheimer Films, seven-time FORMULA 1 World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton's Dawn Apollo Films banner, and Pitt's Plan B Entertainment.
'This trailer is a glimpse into our first partnership with Apple Original Films' F1, which is one of the most hotly anticipated releases of 2025. With scenes from the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and closing fireworks and W Abu Dhabi, Yas Island in the trailer, we now look forward to seeing even more of Abu Dhabi's iconic locations on the big screen and also working with Apple Original Films in the future," Mohamed Dobay, acting director-general of Creative Media Authority said.
'It is always a moment of anticipatory emotion to see the cumulative efforts of so much of Abu Dhabi's talented film and production industry come to life in a trailer. Knowing all the behind-the-scenes details and the work which goes into bringing such incredible visions to life and having the opportunity to work with powerhouse cast and crew…seeing that all come together and knowing the feature release is only a few months away – it's not really something you can describe," Sameer Al Jaberi, head of Abu Dhabi Film Commission, said.
The movie depicts the story of a man dubbed 'the greatest that never was,' Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was FORMULA 1's most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he's a nomadic racer-for-hire when he's approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling FORMULA 1 team that is on the verge of collapse.
Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to FORMULA 1 for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He'll drive alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team's hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace. But as the engines roar, Sonny's past catches up with him and he finds that in FORMULA 1, your teammate is your fiercest competition—and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.
Made in collaboration with FORMULA 1, the film F1 is immersed in the exhilarating and cinematic world of FORMULA 1, the pinnacle of motorsport and was filmed during actual Grand Prix weekends around the world including the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The star-studded ensemble cast also includes Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo. Writer Ehren Kruger penned the screenplay.

Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt's daughter Shiloh now goes by a new name

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's daughter, Shiloh, seems to have acquired a new moniker after dropping "Pitt" from her surname. The 19-year-old made an appearance at a fashion dinner in Los Angeles on May 29, according to People magazine. The event was hosted to celebrate a new fashion line by Isabel Marant and Net-A-Porter. Shiloh served as the choreographer for singer Luella's performance of her new single, Naive, at the event. A press release for the event referred to her by her new name, Shi Joli, marking a new chapter in her public and artistic life, the outlet reported. This comes after a legal decision in 2023 allowed Shiloh to drop "Pitt" from her last name. She filed to make the change on her 18th birthday in May 2024. Shiloh has been passionate about dance and performance for several years. Last year, choreographer Kolanie Marks shared a video of her dancing, praising her dedication. He also joked on Instagram, calling himself her "adopted uncle." Jolie and Pitt reached a divorce settlement in December 2024 after an eight-year legal battle. The former spouses share six children: Maddox Chivan, 23; Pax Thien, 21; Zahara Marley, 20; Shiloh Nouvel, 18; and twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, 16, reported People.

TAG Heuer celebrates return to Monaco with 3 new limited-edition watches

There are circuits‭, ‬and then there's Monaco‭ ‬—‭ ‬a serpentine ribbon of tarmac winding through Monte Carlo's glittering heart‭, ‬the Holy Grail of motorsport drama‭. ‬Narrow‭, ‬treacherous‭, ‬and intoxicatingly glamorous‭ ‬—‭ ‬it's here‭, ‬amid the engine roars and Riviera splendour‭, ‬that the TAG Heuer Monaco forged its identity‭. ‬Born in 1969‭ ‬and named after‭ ‬this crown jewel of Formula 1‭, ‬the Monaco was a mechanical renegade‭ ‬—‭ ‬the world's first square‭, ‬water-resistant automatic chronograph‭, ‬and a timekeeper of daring‭, ‬destined to famously ride shotgun in racing legend‭.‬ This year‭, ‬as TAG Heuer takes the pole position as the first-ever title sponsor of the Formula 1‭ ‬TAG Heuer Grand Prix de Monaco‭,‬‭ ‬it unveils a trio of Monaco watches‭. ‬Each limited-edition piece tells its own story‭ ‬—‭ ‬of cinema‭, ‬precision‭, ‬and horological audacity‭.‬ Monaco Chronograph x Gulf You can't mention the Monaco without invoking Steve McQueen‭ ‬—‭ ‬the epitome of racing cool‭ ‬—‭ ‬whose wrist famously sported a blue-dial Heuer Monaco in Le Mans‭. ‬While the Gulf-striped Monaco wasn't the exact watch he wore‭, ‬it stands as a vibrant tribute to the era‭, ‬echoing the colours of McQueen's race car and suit‭. ‬More than a timepiece‭, ‬it's a symbol of his fearless spirit and TAG Heuer's deep-rooted connection to motorsport‭, ‬capturing the raw energy of the track and the glamour of a time when style and speed collided gloriously‭.‬ This 2025‭ ‬edition revisits that electric moment with reverence and flair‭. ‬Limited to 971‭ ‬pieces‭, ‬it revives the iconic left-side‭ ‬crown and square case configuration from 1969‭, ‬powered by the Calibre 11‭. ‬The dial is a symphony in silver grain‭, ‬adorned with‭ ‬Gulf's unmistakable blue and orange racing livery‭ ‬—‭ ‬a palette that mirrors McQueen's suit and his Porsche 917K‭. ‬The vintage Heuer shield above the dial seals the nostalgia‭. ‬It's cinematic timekeeping in its most authentic form‭ ‬—‭ ‬ a wearable reel of motor racing history‭.‬ Monaco Chronograph Stopwatch TAG Heuer's second act is a tribute to timing itself‭ ‬—‭ ‬a love letter to the rugged‭, ‬neck-worn stopwatches of the‭ ‬'60s and‭ ‬'70s‭. ‬The Monaco Chronograph Stopwatch is more instrument than ornament‭.‬‭ ‬Encased in lightweight black DLC-coated titanium‭, ‬the square form frames a stark black circular dial‭ ‬—‭ ‬a design echoing pit lane urgency‭. ‬Red accents pulse across the minute track‭, ‬while high-contrast subdials‭, ‬faceted hands‭, ‬and‭ ‬blackened indices sharpen the focus‭. ‬At its heart ticks the Calibre 11‭, ‬still anchored by Monaco's unmistakable left-side crown‭. ‬Limited to 970‭ ‬pieces‭, ‬this model channels the spirit of Jack Heuer's relentless pursuit of clarity and function‭, ‬where form follows pure purpose‭.‬ Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph The final chapter in this special trilogy is the most radical‭ ‬—‭ ‬a timepiece that defies convention and flirts with the future‭. ‬The Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph is more a leap than an evolution‭.‬ Housed in TH-Titanium‭, ‬a proprietary alloy with raw‭, ‬elemental texture‭, ‬this watch crackles with innovation‭. ‬The TH81-00‭ ‬calibre‭ ‬—‭ ‬crafted almost entirely from titanium‭ ‬—‭ ‬powers a split-seconds function that allows dual event timing‭, ‬its lime green rattrapante hand slicing across the dial with razor precision‭. ‬The checkered-flag rotor‭, ‬hand-painted accents‭, ‬and racing cues throughout transform it from tool to art‭. ‬Every angle‭, ‬every component is a reminder that racing‭ ‬—‭ ‬and watchmaking‭ ‬—‭ ‬are both theatres of ambition‭.‬ Each of these limited editions is a distillation of the Monaco's essence‭: ‬technical ingenuity‭, ‬bold design‭, ‬and a soul stitched to the Monte Carlo tarmac‭. ‬With nostalgia-drenched elegance and‭ ‬cutting-edge engineering‭, ‬these watches make TAG Heuer's‭ ‬return to Monaco more than a partnership‭ ‬—‭ ‬they mark an emphatic homecoming‭. ‬

Your guide to the best things to do in Abu Dhabi this June

June in Abu Dhabi is many things: hot, humid and the perfect excuse to fill your calendar with seriously cool things to do indoors (and the odd al fresco soirée if you're brave). Whether you're craving world-class concerts, A-list premieres, indie film vibes, or a festive Christmas-in-June brunch (yes, really), the capital is rolling out a lineup of unforgettable happenings this month. We're talking Hans Zimmer live at Etihad Arena, Brad Pitt's F1 film premiering where it was actually filmed and ABBA bangers booming from Mamma Mia! the musical. There's also a sleek jazz-and-chess night at the Louvre, a themed brunch with a Greek island buzz and Pete Davidson cracking jokes in his UAE debut. Oh and in case you missed it, Eid Al Adha brings a four-day holiday – perfect for a staycation, fireworks, or feasting your way around Yas Bay.
