Actor Jagadish, who had filed his nomination for the president's post in the AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) election, unexpectedly withdrew his candidacy—a decision that has triggered strong, contrasting reactions from within the Malayalam film industry.
A surprise exit that stirred mixed reactions
While some called it a selfless move, others have questioned the motive behind it. Jagadish claimed he stepped aside after consultations with veteran actors Mohanlal, Mammootty, and Suresh Gopi. Reported by Manorama, these stars supported the idea of a woman leading the association.
Sandra Thomas calls it a historic step
Taking to Facebook. producer and actor Sandra Thomas lauded Jagadish's gesture, calling it a 'progressive' decision that would be remembered in silver letters.
'His decision in the context of AMMA's murky election is both progressive and welcome,' Sandra wrote.

Not everyone was convinced. Director M.A. Nishad openly questioned the reasoning behind Jagadish's withdrawal. In a sharply worded post, Nishad asked why Jagadish had sought the blessings of superstar actors before stepping down if he had always intended to withdraw. 'If 'Annan' was going to withdraw anyway, why did he need Mammootty's and Lalettan's consent? Did he ask them before filing the nomination?' he wrote, adding, 'It all smells like a bit of 'Ayyyo Achaa, don't go!' Something's just off.
