Singer R. Kelly alleges mistreatment after hospitalization and prison 'murder plot'
R. Kelly collapsed in prison and was hospitalized, attorneys said in court filings this week, adding the details to the singer's extraordinary allegations of a murder plot by prison officials that he argues require temporary release on home detention. Government lawyers have dismissed the claims as a 'fanciful conspiracy."
Kelly, 58, is serving time at a Butner, North Carolina federal facility related to separate convictions for child sex crimes and racketeering.
In a series of filings that started last week, Kelly's attorneys claim prison officials sought out leaders of a white supremacist gang to kill him and prevent the release of damaging information on prison officials. After that filing, Kelly was moved to solitary confinement, his attorneys say. They also allege he was purposely given a medication overdose and required hospitalization and surgery for blood clots, but he was sent back to solitary.
'These people did overdose him. They did leave him with blood clots in his lungs and remove him from a hospital that sought to do surgery to remove them,' Kelly's attorney Beau B. Brindley wrote in a filing Tuesday. 'And they did it within days of his exposure of a plan to kill him set forth by Bureau of Prisons officials.'
Attorneys cite a declaration from a leader of the Aryan Brotherhood as among their evidence.
Government attorneys rejected the allegations as 'repugnant' and questioned whether a Chicago judge has jurisdiction to alter Kelly's sentence for separate convictions in Illinois and New York. Kelly has a Friday hearing at Chicago's federal court.
'Kelly has never taken responsibility for his years of sexually abusing children, and he probably never will,' government attorneys wrote. 'Undeterred, Kelly now asks this Court to release him from incarceration indefinitely under the guise of a fanciful conspiracy.'
The Bureau of Prisons declined to comment Tuesday, saying it does not discuss conditions of confinement or comment on pending legal matters.
The Grammy Award-winning R&B singer, born Robert Sylvester Kelly, was found guilty in Chicago in 2022 of three charges of producing child sexual abuse images and three charges of enticement of minors for sex. In 2021, he was found guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking in New York. His attempts to appeal have been unsuccessful, including to the U.S. Supreme Court. Kelly has also sought President Donald Trump 's help.
He is serving most of his 20-year Chicago sentence and 30-year New York sentence simultaneously.
Kelly is known for work including the 1996 hit 'I Believe I Can Fly' and the cult classic 'Trapped in the Closet,' a multipart tale of sexual betrayal and intrigue.
Kelly sold millions of albums and remained in demand even after allegations about his abuse of young girls began circulating publicly in the 1990s. A 2008 trial in Chicago on child sexual abuse image charges ended in acquittal.
Widespread outrage over Kelly's sexual misconduct did not emerge until the #MeToo reckoning, reaching a crescendo after the release of the documentary 'Surviving R. Kelly.'

She continued: 'The house was drowning me because it had an apple orchard, it was a historical house, it had all this property, and it was beautiful and amazing for a big family with kids and grandparents. 'It just ended up being a place that I spent a lot of time alone [in] because I didn't really know many people in that community. It was lonely.' She said she didn't want to be 'home alone' so she decided to 'simplify' their space. 'My simplification is someone else's complication because I'm still going to be in a beautiful home, but I just took on too much,' she explained. Staggering number of times glamorous teacher is accused of sleeping with student as husband stands by her side amid fresh claims
A glamorous teacher accused of grooming an underage student allegedly slept the teen boy at least 50 times. Christina Formella, 30, faced an Illinois court on Tuesday as she was hit with 52 new charges, supported by her loyal husband Michael, who has stood by her side throughout the scandal. The teacher and soccer coach is now accused of additional counts of sexual assault, indecent solicitation of a child, grooming and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. According to the new complaint, Formella groomed a 15-year-old male student and then had sex with him at least 45 times at Downers Grove South High School while classes were in session, and another five times at her home. She was the boy's soccer coach and tutor. The alleged abuse began in January 2023 and continued through at least August 2024. It was only discovered when the student's mother found disturbing messages between the two when she logged into her son's iCloud account. 'The new allegations against Ms. Formella, including the allegations of grooming and that the abuse lasted nearly two years, are beyond disturbing,' State Attorney Robert Berlin said. 'I thank the victim in this case for having the courage to come forward during what I image is an extremely difficult time for him.' Prosecutor Jaclyn McAndrew told the court that the new evidence suggests Formella first began contacting the boy when he was just 14 years old. The contact, McAndrew said, lasted far longer than prosecutors initially believed when she was initially charged. Formella was arrested in March during a traffic stop outside of Chicago and initially charged with just three criminal counts. She has pleaded not guilty. 'She is unbelieving conniving, and she is unbelieving controlling,' McAndrew told the judge, according to the Daily Herald. McAndrew claimed Formella had told the boy she did not intend to marry her husband, and that he was having an affair with her best friend. Formella allegedly told him that her husband would leave her and she would come into millions of dollars. It is also alleged that she was texting the boy while on a vacation with her husband in Italy. Shocking police bodycam footage captured the moment she was arrested as she sat in her car next to her husband. DuPage County prosecutors claimed that during her police interview, Formella tried to portray her victim as a boy obsessed with a teacher because she's 'good looking' and claimed her husband was aware of the situation. 'Throughout her interview, [Formella] tried to paint [the accuser] as her 'stalker' and claimed that her husband was aware,' prosecutors said in court documents obtained by the New York Post. However, her husband told investigators it was the first time he had heard about a situation involving the boy. 'Oddly enough, her husband told detectives that he knows nothing about [the accuser] beyond his status as a soccer player,' prosecutors said. Formella allegedly sent shockingly lewd messages to the boy, telling him how much she 'loves him' and 'loves having sex' with him. The teacher has maintained that she never sexually assaulted the student and that 'everybody comes after her because she is good-looking,' according to court documents. She confessed to police that she 'cared too much' about the student, but claimed that he broke into her phone and sent the text messages as blackmail. 'She claimed that one day, [the boy], had grabbed her phone unattended, had entered her passcode... had sent the message to his phone, had then deleted the message from her phone, and had saved it to his phone as blackmail,' the documents said. Formella's next court appearance is scheduled for August 4, 2025.

High school track star disqualified over controversial celebration reveals she is considering legal action
Clara Adams, the high school athlete disqualified for celebrating her 400m victory by spraying her shoes with a fire extinguisher, is considering drastic action after she was stripped of her gold medal. Adams was disqualified from the meet as a whole by officials for her celebrations - denying her the chance to race in a 200-meter event later. Adams, a sophomore from North Salinas High School, claimed the CIF officials 'overreacted by grabbing me and yelling in my face.' 'As a dad, I still do not understand why the CIF officials berated my daughter, stripped her of her title, banned her from competing in the next race and ignored me when I attempted to get an explanation of what was going on,' her dad David added to PEOPLE 'As a father I was angry about how they physically grabbed and yelled at her. I am still at a loss as to why they treated her and that way. She's a kid and they treated her like an adult and gave her the maximum punishment without any warning or explanation.' The celebration was reminiscent of Greene, a four-time Olympic medalist and five-time world champion, who famously extinguished his own cleats after he won the 100-meter dash during the 2004 Home Depot Invitational. Adams claimed she and her dad didn't settle on the celebration until they arrived in Fresno for the meet and saw the old video of Greene. Adams, who said she was the 'underdog' heading into the event, and David insisted that they carried out the celebration away from her fellow competitors. Earlier this month, Greene himself weighed in on the controversy, claiming disqualification should be overturned if the celebration was performed away from her competitors. 'When I heard, cause it happened, and then people just started calling me 'This girl who just ran the 400 did your celebration' I was like huh? What?' the ex-athlete told KSBW-TV on Monday. 'If it was away from everyone and not interfering with anyone, I would say reinstate her.'
