Kelsey Grammer Boards ‘Hell Ride'; Karlovy Vary Names Chair; Tarf Enters Theatrical Distribution; ITV Soap Boss Retiring
From Frasier to rollercoaster. Kelsey Grammer will lead Hell Ride, an upcoming theme park thriller from Altitude. Directed by Magnus Martens (SAS: Red Notice) and written by Altitude joint CEO Andy Mayson (No Way Up), the film is billed as a 'white-knuckle survival thriller' that follows a group of high school seniors who break into an abandoned theme park for one final wild night, only to find their night spiralling into a nightmare. Mayson, Molly Conners (Triple 9) and Amanda Bowers (Riff Raff) are producing and Altitude is introducing it to buyers in Cannes. Pic reunites Grammer with part of the creative team he worked with at another upcoming thriller, Turbulence, and some of the VFX team from that pic and No Way Up will work on Hell Ride as well. Grammer is represented by UTA and Vault Entertainment.

Krystof Mucha Named Karlovy Vary Film Fest Chair
Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) has named Kryštof Mucha as its Chairman, and will leave the President position the late Jiří Bartoška held in memoriam. Bartoška passed away earlier this month aged 78. Mucha, who joined KVIFF in 1997, has been its Executive Director since 2004. 'Despite the very sad fact that the world of culture has lost one of its most important personalities, we want to assure the public that the Karlovy Vary festival will continue to possess the level of quality that Jiří Bartoška and his team have always given it,' said Jan Jírovec, Head of the Rockaway Arts group that majority owns KVIFF. Remaining on. Mucha's team will be Artistic Director Karel Och and Head of Production Petr Lintimer. 'For many years, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Jiří Bartoška and to see how he thought and where he was taking the festival,' said Mucha. 'I believe that, together with Karel Och and Petr Lintimer, we will succeed in continuing his legacy.'
Tarf Media Pushes Into Irish Theatrical Distribution
EXCLUSIVE: Ireland's Tarf Media is pushing into local theatrical distribution. The film sales company told Deadline it is now offering a 'complete end-to-end distribution package from theatrical in Ireland to international sales and streaming.' Tarf founder Eoghan Burke is working with Anna Lavery PR and Distribution to bring films to Irish cinemas, while continuing to act as a sales agent. Dublin-based Tarf is known for handling international rights on films such as Cocaine Werewolf and A Dickens of a Christmas. Before last year's Cannes, Tarf struck a partnership deal with Good Deed Entertainment.
ITV Soap Supremo John Whiston Retiring
John Whiston, the ITV exec who has overseen the UK network's flagship soaps, is retiring after 27 years. In his most recent role as Managing Director of Continuing Drama and Head of ITV in the North, the long-serving exec has led editorially and commercially on Coronation Street and Emmerdale, both of which still command audiences of millions each evening. He also oversaw ITV series such as including Vera, A Touch of Frost and Heartbeat. At the end of the month, he will hand over to Executive Producer for Continuing Drama Iain MacLeod, who is upped to Creative Director and Matt Cleary, who becomes COO of Continuing Drama, which keeping his current post as Director of Production for UK Scripted at ITV Studios. MacLeod will report to ITV Studios Managing Director Julian Bellamy. Whiston said: 'I've always said I've got the best job in TV. I used to say it privately in case ITV stopped paying me. It has been nothing short of an honour, as well as a blast, to work on the Soaps this last decade or so. We've had joy, we've had fun and we've had seasons in the Sun. We've also had misery and mayhem. We've had motorway crashes, tram crashes and floods. We've had stories which have squeezed your heart till tears came out of your eyes. And we've covered pretty much anything and everything that people have to face in their own lives and we've done that with care and humanity. And all that is down to the 600 or so people – the writers, crew, cast and editorial – who have kept the show on air and at an incredible quality day in day out. And it's them who have made my job ridiculously easy. Just don't tell ITV.'

Sinéad O'Connor Biopic Is Officially in the Works
Two years after the death of Sinéad O'Connor, a biopic on the late Irish singer is in the works. According to Variety, the film will focus on O'Connor's early life and career, where she rose to an unlikely, at times controversial pop star, breaking out in 1990 when her cover of Prince's 'Nothing Compares 2 U' became a Number One hit. The new film will be directed by Josephine Decker (who helmed 2020's Shirley) with a script by Stacey Gregg. O'Connor died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma in July 2023 at the age of 56. At the time of her death, her final album was one track away from completion. According to her management company, she was also reviewing tour dates and considering a biopic, based on her 2021 memoir Rememberings. O'Connor influenced countless singers like Tori Amos, Tegan and Sara, Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette, and many others. Following her death, boygenius covered 'The Parting Glass' — a Scottish and Irish traditional that Sinéad O'Connor recorded in 2002 — while Phoebe Bridgers paid tribute to her in Rolling Stone. 'She embodied what it means to be a musician and stand for something,' Bridgers told us. 'Maybe it's the internet, but in today's landscape, people are told what is kosher to believe in and they just do that or the bare minimum. She was not like that at all. She made me feel like I was allowed to stand for things. It's still hard, but I feel so lucky that I can feel validated and my beliefs are taken seriously. And that world exists because of Sinéad's sacrifice.' Is ‘Kin' returning for season 3? Everything we know so far

The Kinsella family's gritty world of Dublin gangland has us hooked, and after two wild seasons, we're dying to know what's next. So, is Season 3 a sure thing, or are we just wishful thinking? Here's everything floating around out there as of mid-August 2025. Will There Be a Kin Season 3? No official word yet on Kin Season 3, but don't lose hope! The show's got a lot of buzz, and there's chatter that keeps fans optimistic. Back in September 2024, Emmett J. Scanlan (our boy Jimmy Kinsella) spilled some tea on ITV's This Morning . He said there's no green light yet, but networks are circling like sharks because Season 2 crushed it on BBC iPlayer, landing in the top five shows in February 2024. Scanlan even hinted at a possible 'bidding war' between broadcasters. How's that for juicy? Rewind to August 2023, and RTÉ, the Irish network that first aired Kin , was all in, saying they're working with global partners to bring it back. But here's the catch: Bron Studios, the main production company, hit a rough patch with a bankruptcy filing in 2023. That's thrown a massive curveball, tying up the show's rights in legal knots. Co-creator Ciaran Donnelly told JOE in December 2024 that they're fighting to sort it out, but it's a messy process with lawyers and all that jazz. Oh, and another hurdle? The cast's original contracts from 2020 expired after three years. That means getting heavyweights like Charlie Cox (Michael), Clare Dunne (Amanda), and Scanlan back would need new deals. Cox is especially tricky since he's off shooting Daredevil: Born Again . Still, Donnelly and Scanlan are hyped to keep going, with Donnelly saying they originally planned for at least five seasons. Fingers crossed! When Could Kin Season 3 Premiere? If everything falls into place—rights cleared, cast signed, cameras rolling—when might we get new episodes? Looking at past releases (Season 1 dropped September 2021, Season 2 hit March 2023), a late 2025 or early 2026 premiere seems possible if filming starts by mid-2025. Donnelly mentioned that even with a go-ahead now, production could take 6 to 10 months, so we're likely looking at mid-2026 at the earliest. Sinead O'Connor Biopic Chronicling Singer's Early Years In the Works
The early life and times of late Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor will be the subject of an upcoming biopic. According to Variety, the project covering O'Connor's origin story is being helmed by Irish production company ie: entertainment, which executive produced and worked with the singer on the 2022 O'Connor documentary Nothing Compares; O'Connor died in July 2023 at age 56 of natural causes. Among the reported co-producers on the film are Irish indie film production company Nine Daughters (God's Creatures, Lady Macbeth) and See Saw Films (Slow Horses, The Power of the Dog). At press time spokespeople for O'Connor and ie:entertainment had not returned Billboard's request for comment on the film. BBC Films is funding the film's development. The film will reportedly focus on O'Connor's early life and journey through the music industry, telling the story of how 'one young woman from Dublin took on the world, examining how her global fame may have been built on her talent, but her name became synonymous with her efforts to draw attention to the crimes committed by the Catholic Church and the Irish state.' O'Connor burst onto the music scene in 1987 with her genre agnostic debut album, The Lion and the Cobra, which mixed beat-driven pop, goth rock, confessional folk, shoegaze and ethereal chants. The singer's shocking bald headed look and powerful vocals on songs such as the college rock hit 'Mandinka' and the jangly 'I Want Your (Hands on Me)' made her an instant fascination and landed her a Grammy nomination for best female rock vocal performance. From the beginning, O'Connor was a voice to be reckoned with, never holding her tongue or pulling punches when it came to calling out injustice or the abuse of power. She became a reluctant global superstar thanks to her Grammy-winning 1990 sophomore album, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, which featured her beloved cover of the Prince-written 'Nothing Compares 2 U.' The intense scrutiny sometimes proved to be a struggle for O'Connor, who was an outspoken critic of the Catholic church and famously ripped up a picture of then Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live in 1992 while saying 'fight the real enemy' nearly a decade before John Paul publicly acknowledged the Catholic Church's long history of child sex abuse. O'Connor — who said she suffered sexual and emotional abuse as a child — was criticized by the likes of Madonna, actor Joe Pesci and the Anti-Defamation League for the action and two weeks later was booed during a 30th anniversary tribute concert for Bob Dylan at Madison Square Garden. The singer went on to release eight more albums during a career, jumping from reggae, to traditional Irish songs and fairly straight-ahead pop. The O'Connor biopic will come amidst a recent bumper crop of re-tellings of famous rock and pop legends, including the Queen film Bohemian Rhapsody, the Elton John biopic Rocketman, last year's Bob Dylan A Complete Unknown, as well as the upcoming Bruce Springsteen film Deliver Me From Nowhere, a quartet of Beatles movies in 2028 and either a TV series of film version of Madonna's early years.
