Egypt, UAE, Jordan Airdrop Aid Over Gaza Strip
ISTANBUL, July 31 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Egypt, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) carried out airdrops of humanitarian aid over the Gaza Strip on Wednesday amid a worsening famine and ongoing Israeli military attacks on civilians, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
Jordan's official news agency Petra said the Jordanian army conducted a new round of airdrop operations in coordination with the UAE Air Force and the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation.
Two C-130 aircraft belonging to the Royal Jordanian Air Force and its Emirati counterpart were used in the operation, which delivered 16 tonnes of food and baby formula to various parts of Gaza.

This brings the total amount of aid dropped over recent days to 73 tonnes, based on a mechanism aimed at ensuring efficient delivery.
Separately, Egyptian Armed Forces spokesman Brig Gen Gharib Abdel Hafez said on Facebook that four military aircraft departed Egypt with food aid for airdrops over areas in Gaza inaccessible by land.
He said the effort was meant to ease harsh living conditions and address acute shortages, while land-based aid continues in parallel.
The Israeli army announced Saturday it would allow limited airdrops and had begun a "local tactical pause in military activity" in specific areas to facilitate humanitarian access.
The move comes amid rising regional and international pressure over Gaza's deepening famine, with warnings of a potential mass-death crisis threatening over 100,000 children.
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) criticised the airdrops, saying they would not be enough to stop the famine.

Egypt retrieves 13 smuggled artifacts from Britain, Germany
CAIRO, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Egypt has recovered 13 smuggled ancient artifacts from Britain and Germany, as part of its efforts to protect cultural heritage and repatriate antiquities that were illegally taken from the country, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced on Sunday. The artifacts have been retrieved in coordination with the Egyptian Foreign Ministry and in collaboration with the relevant authorities from Egypt, Britain and Germany, according to the statement. The 13 pieces have been deposited at the Egyptian Museum in downtown Cairo for maintenance and restoration before being showcased in a special exhibition of recently recovered antiquities. The pieces from Britain include a New Kingdom limestone funerary stela, a small red baboon amulet, a green faience-based vessel and a small blue faience funerary jar, both from the 18th Dynasty (1550-1292 BC), and a part of a bronze crown consisting of a feather, a cobra, and a ram, which was part of a large statue of the god Osiris dating between the 22nd and 26th Dynasties (945-525 BC). They also include a beaded funerary mask from the 26th Dynasty (664-525 BC) and several faience and black stone funerary amulets. The artifacts recovered from Germany include a skull and a hand from an unidentified mummy, and an ankh amulet, the ancient Egyptian symbol of life. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, stated that the recovery of the artifacts followed the London Metropolitan Police's seizure and confiscation of them after confirming that they had been smuggled out of Egypt through an international antiquities network. Regarding the artifacts recovered from Germany, Khaled pointed out that the Egyptian embassy in Berlin received a notice from the Hamburg city authorities expressing their wish to return a number of pieces kept in the city's museum, after verifying that they had been illegally taken out of Egypt.

Fire at chlorine factory in southern France forces locals to stay indoors
PARIS (Reuters) -A fire broke out at a chlorine factory in southern France on Sunday, raising the risk of toxic fumes and prompting authorities to order nearby residents to stay indoors. The plant, operated by HydraPro, is used to produce chlorine for swimming pools. The local authority urged anyone within around a kilometre of the factory to stay inside and close their doors and windows. "As the winds are blowing north, the smell of chlorine can be felt," the prefecture said, though it noted that the smell itself was not a public safety risk. The plant is classified a "seveso" site under a directive that requires European Union member states to identify factories that handle dangerous substances. Firefighters have been dispatched and are expected to be joined by a specialised team, the local authority said. The chemical factory is located in the French town of Lédenon, about 28 kilometres (17.3 miles) south-west of Avignon. (Reporting by Forrest CrellinEditing by Christina Fincher)

National Day: Patriotism in the air as homes, offices and business premises start flying the Jalur Gemilang
KUALA LUMPUR — August is a month that oozes with the spirit of patriotism, where citizens are encouraged to decorate their homes, offices, and vehicles with the Jalur Gemilang (the Malaysian flag) as a sign of love for the country. With 21 days left until the National Day 2025 celebration, people across the country have already started flying the Jalur Gemilang, the national symbol. A Bernama survey in Kampung Baru, located in the heart of the capital, and at Perumahan Awam Sri Perak, Sentul, found that residents have installed the Jalur Gemilang at their homes to join in the National Month celebration. Moving on to Dataran Merdeka, the atmosphere of the National Day celebration is already palpable, as the area is filled with Jalur Gemilang decorations and various patriotic-themed displays. IN MELAKA, the Jalur Gemilang has started to fly along main roads like Jalan Hang Tuah, Jalan Tun Sri Lanang, Jalan Bendahara, and Jalan Laksamana, thanks to initiatives from the local authorities. Several hotels, private hospitals, and tourist locations have also joined the effort to liven up the National Month celebration, while fewer flags were seen at most residential areas and business premises. The patriotic atmosphere is also increasingly being felt in Kuantan, PAHANG, where the Jalur Gemilang and the Pahang flag are proudly flying along main roads, at business premises, and on government administration buildings in anticipation of the National Month celebration. The Kuantan City Council has also launched the Jalur Gemilang and Pahang State Flag-Hoisting Program from July 25 to September 16 to encourage participation of residents. A retired government official, Sallehuddin Yaakob Rahman, 62, said he intends to install the Jalur Gemilang at his home, but his current flag is worn out. He plans to replace it before National Day on August 31. 'God willing, I will change it to a new one before Merdeka Day, so that we can all help to liven up the atmosphere,' he said. IN KEDAH, the patriotic 'war' of the Jalur Gemilang can also be felt as premises and residential homes in the areas around Kota Setar, Pendang, and Yan districts have begun installing flags. Tan Chin Eng, 62, from Yan, said he usually installs the flag every time the National Month arrives. 'I will try to install it before the celebration day. I've noticed that some premises and houses in this area have started putting up flags since August 1, but there are still many that haven't,' he said. Civil servant Nur Syahirah Azlan, 34, from Kota Setar said she had already installed three Jalur Gemilang flags in front of her house as a symbol of patriotism. 'Every year, my husband and I install the flags, and they stay flying until Malaysia Day. But what I see is that many people still don't fly flags. Maybe because it's not compulsory, they don't care much, but they should at least fly one flag as a sign of love for the country,' she said. Themed 'Malaysia MADANI: A Compassionate Nation,' the National Day 2025 celebration on August 31 will be held at Dataran Putrajaya, while the Malaysia Day celebration will take place on September 16 in Penang. — BERNAMA
