Jon Anik isn't too sure about Bryce Mitchell vs. Jean Silva odds heading into UFC 314
Jon Anik doesn't think the betting odds accurately reflect the Bryce Mitchell vs. Jean Silva matchup.
Mitchell (17-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) is a moderate underdog against rising featherweight contender Silva (15-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) on Saturday's UFC 314 main card at Kaseya Center in Miami.
Mitchell turned plenty of fans against him after making controversial pro-Adolf Hitler comments, which Silva fully capitalized on during the UFC 314 pre-fight press conference last month. But Anik said people seem to forget Mitchell's strength of schedule in the UFC, which includes wins over Edson Barboza and Dan Ige.
'Whether he's lifting weights in blue jeans and boots or not even wearing any clothes, he's putting in the work,' Anik told MMA Junkie of Mitchell. 'He's one of the hardest workers in the game. You've always seen him go to great lengths to travel and train with high level training partners. I just think Bryce Mitchell's commitment in totality to martial arts is what gets lost in all of this. I don't have to tell you about his ground fighting exploits. Outstanding submission guy, a really great ground striker. He has heart, he has toughness, fight IQ, durability.
'He's got a little of different things. The betting line would suggest to you, with Jean Silva at -325, that he's going to need every bit of them to come through as a +260 underdog, but I do believe based upon the narrative and some of what he has said, we are losing sight of just the mixed martial arts matchup. You can count me among the surprised, despite The Fighting Nerds success and Jean Silva's ability to in all phases and his death-touch power, -325 against a guy as tried and tested in the UFC as Mitchell? I just don't see.'
Silva has kicked off his octagon tenure with four stoppage victories, most recently a first-round Performance of the Night TKO over Melsik Baghdasaryan at UFC Fight Night 252 in February. He called out Mitchell after the win and got his wish.

Cowboys' $97 million man targeting Week 1 return after 2 years of injuries
Cowboys' $97 million man targeting Week 1 return after 2 years of injuries After tearing his ACL last season, Diggs has his sights set on returning for the season opener. Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs, who missed the final six games last season after undergoing surgery to repair a knee injury, has his sights set on returning Week 1 vs the Philadelphia Eagles, according to reporter Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. While the All-Pro is hoping to follow through on his first major goal of the upcoming 2025 season, it will ultimately come down to how well he progresses during training camp. Dallas signed Diggs to a five-year, $97 million extension heading into the 2023 season, but he hasn't played much since then. The former 2020 second-round pick has battled through the injury bug and has missed plenty of football, 21 games to be exact, over the past two seasons, most notably in 2023 after a gruesome ACL tear suffered during a September practice sidelined him for 15 games. Before the injuries came into the picture, Diggs had firmly established himself as one of the NFL's premier playmakers on the back end. His ability to take away a side of the field, bait quarterbacks into mistakes, and create game-changing turnovers made him a centerpiece of Dallas' defense and a massive piece to replace once he went down. Now under new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, the Cowboys will be eager to see Diggs back in the fold as well as hope to see Diggs and fellow All-Pro teammate DaRon Bland see plenty of action on the field at the same time.

UFC books Bellator notable Mandel Nallo vs. Cage Warriors champ Samuel Silva for DWCS
UFC books Bellator notable Mandel Nallo vs. Cage Warriors champ Samuel Silva for DWCS MMA worlds will collide as a former Bellator knockout artist and a current Cage Warriors champion will collide this summer with a UFC contract on the line. Tristar's Mandel Nallo and Cage Warriors lightweight champion Samuel Silva are set to square off Sept. 2 on Dana White's Contender Series at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Nallo (13-3) competed eight times for Bellator from 2017 to 2023. He compiled a 4-3 record with one no contest, as the promotion struggled to find him fights. That problem continued when Nallo hit free agency in early 2023. Since then, he's 4-0 in MMA with an additional win in bareknuckle MMA. All five of those fights he finished inside the distance. Silva (13-4-1) empathically turned heads in March when he upset Cage Warriors champion George Hardwick in an epic five-round battle. Silva won the bout via unanimous decision to extend his winning streak to five. The current DWCS lineup for Sept. 2 includes:
