Townsend, who will wear number 25 for his new club, spent his summer commentating on the Fifa Club World Cup.
But it looks as if he's not ready to make the permanent jump to punditry and still has some miles left in his legs after penning his deal with Kanchanaburi.
The little-known club was established just eight years ago and is based in Mueang, Thailand.
Since its inception in 2017, the club has undergone three rebrands that have seen it change its name from Singha Golden Bells to Dragon Pathumwan Kanchanaburi and now Kanchanaburi Power.

Townsend joins 15-time Algeria international and former Lens defender Mehdi Tahrat at the Thai outfit.
Townsend will wear "Townsend Sr" on the back of his shirt instead of the last name most fans are used to seeing him wear.
That's because he has a son named Andros Townsend Jr, who you would assume he hopes could follow in his footsteps in the future.
Townsend spent last season in the Turkish top flight, making 23 appearances for Antalyaspor.

Jack Grealish on verge of Everton loan move from Manchester City
MANCHESTER CITY HAVE agreed a season-long loan deal with Everton for winger Jack Grealish, the PA news agency understands. Grealish, not included in City's 27-man squad for this summer's Club World Cup in the United States, is expected to undergo a medical with the Merseysiders on Monday. Advertisement The 29-year-old reportedly earns £300,000-per-week (€347,000) having joined City from Aston Villa for a then-record British transfer fee of £100 million €116m in August 2021. Grealish made his last appearance for Pep Guardiola's side as a late substitute in the 3-1 home win against Bournemouth in their penultimate league game last season. He had dropped down the pecking order under Guardiola, making just seven league starts in total last season, and was an unused substitute in the FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace. Everton launch the new campaign at newly-promoted Leeds next Monday before playing their first Premier League game at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium against Brighton on 24 August. The Toffees signed midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea for a fee of around £28m (€32m) last week and Grealish would be the Merseysiders' sixth summer signing following the previous arrivals of Charly Alcaraz, Thierno Barry, Mark Travers and Adam Aznou.
