Do Carabao Cup 1st round ties have extra-time or go straight to penalties if drawn?
Winner takes it all Do Carabao Cup 1st round ties have extra-time or go straight to penalties if drawn? A new season of Carabao Cup action is here - and there is always one question at the front of everyone's mind. Is there extra time and penalties if the tie ends all square after two legs? 1 Newcastle are the current Carabao Cup champions Credit: Getty Will Carabao Cup first round ties go to extra-time and penalties? If the scoreline is level after 90 minutes, no extra-time will be played. The winners will be determined by a penalty shootout. Extra-time is only used in the Carabao Cup from the second leg of the semi-finals and onwards. What happened in the final last year? Last year, Newcastle ended their 70-year wait for major trophy after they beat Liverpool 2-1 to win the Carabao Cup. Local hero Dan Burn opened the scoring just before half-time with a bullet header from a Kieran Trippier corner. Seven minutes into the second half, Alexander Isak's stunning first-time finish doubled the Magpies' lead and sent the Toon Army wild at Wembley. Liverpool set up a grandstand finish after Federico Chiesa came off the bench to make it 2-1 with minutes of additional time to play. Eddie Howe's men hung on to claim a historic win as Newcastle took home the trophy back to Tyneside. When is the Carabao Cup 2026 final? The 2026 Carabao Cup final is set to take place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, March 22. Kick-off time has not yet been confirmed, but the 2025 final kicked off at 4.30pm BST.

Jack Grealish makes two sacrifices to make Man City transfer decision
Jack Grealish is set to make a loan move from Manchester City to Everton, despite his initial aim this summer being to secure a permanent deal with a Champions League club. The midfielder's value has dipped since his £100million transfer to Manchester, and it was widely anticipated that he would leave during the current window. Pep Guardiola sanctioned his exit after struggling to give him regular game time in the season's final months. Everton have now stepped up to take Grealish on loan, but this leaves the ex-Aston Villa star facing uncertainty about his future again in 12 months - something he had hoped to avoid. The 29-year-old's switch has also seen him cool his desire to play in the Champions League, reports the BBC. Grealish wanted to remain playing in Europe but neither Newcastle, nor Tottenham, two teams who were linked with him, came forward with an offer. Grealish will instead help spearhead Everton's first season at their new state-of-the-art Hill Dickinson Stadium with the loan switch potentially costing the Toffees over £10m once a fee and wages are accounted for. Across his time in Manchester Grealish has made more than 150 appearances, winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup. He was key in their treble triumph but last term only made seven league starts as City ended the season without winning a major trophy. Guardiola then left him out of the club's squad for the Club World Cup in the USA, further underlining his decline. It is understood that City were willing to help facilitate Grealish's exit, which was seen as the best solution for all parties, with the Catalan understanding when it came to his player's position. He said at the end of last season: "It's not [only] Jack. There is not one player in my locker room, and I think all the locker rooms around the world, that is happy [when they] do not play. When the team is winning and winning they have to figure out how everything happens – but they are not happy. They are here to play and, when they don't play, they are not satisfied. That is the normal position in all the clubs." Among Grealish's motivations for making the move to Everton was the chance to impress England boss Thomas Tuchel and put himself back in the shop window. The playmaker missed out on the Euro 2024 squad and has confessed he was "heartbroken".

Barcelona ‘tell Marcus Rashford he is NOT at front of queue to be registered as Man Utd loanee risks La Liga ban'
NO RASH RUSH Barcelona 'tell Marcus Rashford he is NOT at front of queue to be registered as Man Utd loanee risks La Liga ban' MARCUS RASHFORD has reportedly been told that he is not Barcelona's number one priority for La Liga registration amid concern he could have to wait to make his debut for the Catalan club. Rashford, 27, joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United this summer but is yet to be registered as an official player with La Liga due to Barca's financial woes. 3 Marcus Rashford has reportedly been told he is not Barcelona's priority for La Liga registration Credit: Shutterstock Editorial The Spanish giants have been in a constant battle with La Liga chiefs to register some of their best players in recent seasons, with the league claiming that they do not have the financial capacity to add new signings to their ranks. That was evident last season, when Barca fought to get Dani Olmo and Pau Victor registered by raising funds by selling VIP boxes at the revamped Camp Nou for £83m. They now face the same issues with Rashford and their other new arrivals. With one of their highest-earners Marc-Andre ter Stegen a long-term absentee, the club felt that they had found a loophole in order to solve their issues. READ MORE ON FOOTBALL GUNNER RAGE Fuming Arsenal fans say 'congratulations Man Utd' as referee is announced Should La Liga bosses deem the German's injury to be severe enough to cause him to miss at least four to five months, Barca would be able to reallocate the funds for his wages elsewhere. However, Spanish outlet Marca claim that Rashford isn't the number one priority to be registered if Barca are successful in their plans. Instead, new goalkeeper Joan Garcia is thought to be the first name on the list for registration, with Rashford behind him in second spot. Should Barcelona fail to register both players, then Rashford would be unable to make his debut in La Liga this weekend when the Blaugrana take on Mallorca. 3 Barcelona plan to prioritise the registration of new goalkeeper Joan Garcia over Rashford Credit: Getty CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS However, club president Joan Laporta has hinted that the club are hopeful that they can register both players. He said this week: "We're working to make it happen. Marcus Rashford can't contain his excitement after agreeing Barcelona transfer "With Marc's [ter Stegen] decision, we have the option of registering Joan Garcia, and we're working on the rest. "This week we'll have news, hopefully good news, to see if we can register them before La Liga starts. And if we can't, we have time." While reports claim Rashford is "calm and confident" that he will be registered as a Barcelona player. 3 TRANSFER NEWS LIVE - KEEP UP WITH ALL THE LATEST FROM A BUSY SUMMER WINDOW
