Raipur couple anxious as daughter in Iran is not reachable after her ‘rescue appeal'
Amidst intensifying efforts to bring back Indian nationals stranded in Iran, an elderly couple in Chhattisgarh capital Raipur has expressed concerns about their married daughter who lives in the embattled country with her husband and two sons.
In the last WhatsApp call they had with their daughter Aiman Zaidi, 28, four days ago, Kasim Raza, 60, and his wife Shaheen, 55, heard her sobbing and requesting them to rescue her.
The couple say there has been no communication since then, making them increasingly anxious with each passing day.
'We discussed the evolving situation [referring to the Iran-Israel military conflict] and initially both sides tried to calm each other down saying things will be fine. However, before disconnecting the call, my daughter appealed to us to take her out of Qom city [in north central Iran] and bring her to India,' said Ms. Raza.
Mr. Raza is a driver with the Raipur Central Jail administration, and the family lives in the staff accommodation within the jail campus. He said that in 2017, Ms. Aiman got married to Ejaz Zaidi from Damoh in Madhya Pradesh who is enrolled in a religious education programme, 'Maulviyat', in Iran. The following year, Ms. Aiman too moved to Iran and has been living there ever since.
After her last conversation with her daughter, Ms. Raza tried to call them again but to no avail. Based on what they have heard on TV news and other media, the couple feels there could be an internet shutdown in the area where Ms. Aiman's family resides alongside several other Indian families. Mr. Ejaz was scheduled to fly to India for Muharram festival on June 13, the day Israel launched an attack on Iran triggering the conflict. His flight was cancelled as a result, they recalled.
While the overall safety of the family remains a primary concern, the couple is also worried because of the worsening thyroid condition of their daughter and wonder whether she would receive any medical assistance if needed in this state of emergency.
So far they haven't made any formal request to the authorities but said they might do so if Ms. Aiman remains incommunicado.

Human trafficker arrested in Tripura's Sepahijala district
A human trafficker was arrested at Dudhpukur under Kalamchoura police station in Sepahijala district today. The arrested person was identified as Sharif Miah, resident of Dudhpukur. He was arrested during a joint raid conducted by Agartala Government Railway police, local police and Border Security Force. 'He was wanted in a case. We conducted raid at his house many times, but he was absconding. We came to know that he is currently at his home and conducted a joint operation to arrest him. We produced him to the court today and sought police remand for him', said officer in-charge of Agartala Government Railway Police Station Tapas Das. In the preliminary interrogation, he confessed his involvement in the case, however, police are investigating to find out whether he had any involvement in other cases, the police official added. NIA arrests key accused in Kasaragod fake currency cases from Mumbai airport
More than 12 years after he went underground, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested a key accused in the 2013 Kasaragod fake currency cases from the Mumbai airport, following his extradition from the United Arab Emirates. The accused, Moideenabha Ummer Beary alias Moideen, had been in the custody of UAE authorities since 2015 and was handed over to Indian officials after the completion of a simplified extradition process. He was wanted in connection with four cases registered by the NIA in 2013 following the seizure of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) in Kerala's Kasaragod district. Moideen, a native of Udupi district in Karnataka, was taken into NIA custody upon his arrival from Dubai and immediately flown to Kochi, where he was produced before a special NIA court in Ernakulam. NIA officials said Moideen had conspired with other accused to procure counterfeit currency worth Rs 31 lakh from the UAE. The fake notes were trafficked into India by an associate, Usman, through the Bengaluru airport and subsequently circulated in and around Kasaragod. Following the recovery of the FICN in 2013, NIA moved to revoke Moideen's Indian passport and obtained an Interpol Red Notice against him. He was tracked down and arrested in the UAE two years later. His extradition marks a significant step in the crackdown on cross-border fake currency operations, officials said. The NIA has already chargesheeted six people, including Moideen, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code in the case.
