Jasprit Bumrah had a roller-coaster few minutes at Lord's on Sunday, which involved two wickets, an almost-wicket where the bails didn't fall despite the ball hitting the off-stump, and an injury scare in between.
India's ace, who took a fifer in the first innings of this third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar, got his first of the second innings on the opening ball of the 56th over. It was a brilliant yorker, and Brydon Carse had no answer.
Four balls later, he tried to catch Jofra Archer off guard in the same way. The ball was just outside off, and there was a sound as it reached wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel. Then in the next over, Bumrah bowled two balls to Chris Woakes and seemed to have pulled something up in his calf after the second. He went down in pain and the physio ran in to apply spray and a bandage. Bumrah was seen hobbling after that too — a bad sign for India, considering all the worry about his workloads.
However, the pacer continued in the over and in the very next ball — a short-of-good-length nip-backer, Woakes was caught, indecisive in trying to defend it, and ended up edging it to his stumps. It was his second wicket of the innings, seventh of the match, and 49th in Tests in England.
India will want to be careful with Bumrah's fitness
India came into this series having already decided that Bumrah would only play three Tests. This is his second, and he has bowled a ton of overs, being India's leader of the attack.
They'll want to avoid a repeat of the tour of Australia where he broke down in the middle of the Sydney Test owing to a huge workload. There's a nine-day-long break between the third and fourth Tests and India will be able to decide if they have to play him at Old Trafford or not.

Besides his appearance at Wimbledon and then an event hosted by Yuvraj Singh in London, Kohli has stayed away from the public eye. Only time will tell if Kohli listens to what Tharoor has to say, but given the 36-year-old's track record, his decision will remain unchanged.
