Michigan State's Aidan Chiles Is Left off Josh Pate's Big Ten Top 10 Quarterback List

Michigan State's Aidan Chiles Is Left off Josh Pate's Big Ten Top 10 Quarterback List

Michigan State's Aidan Chiles Is Left off Josh Pate's Big Ten Top 10 Quarterback List originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
CBS Sports' Josh Pate revealed his Big Ten Preseason Quarterback Rankings with Penn State's Drew Allar, Ohio State's Julian Sayin, and Oregon's Dante Moore taking the top three spots, respectively.

"Josh, with all due respect, this is not very good. And not just because you decided to not list the QB with the most talented arm in the B10," Lewerke commented under Pate's ranking on X.
Chiles is entering his third NCAA season and second with the Michigan State Spartans. Including his time at Oregon State, he completed 60 percent of his passes for 2,724 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions over 21 games. He also rushed for 304 yards over 114 attempts.

When comparing to other quarterbacks on the list, Chiles statistically is either even with or surpassing them.
Nebraska's Dylan Raiola, who's ranked at No. 6 on Pate's list, has similar stats to Chiles. As a freshman in 2024, he completed 67 percent of his passes for 2,819 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. On the rushing end, he attempted 50 carries with a net negative of 65 yards. Passing-wise, Raiola is similar to Chiles, yet the Spartan could not break into the top 10 whereas the Husker with net negative rushing yards could land at No. 6.
Michigan's Bryce Underwood has yet to play an NCAA game. While ranked the No. 1 overall player, quarterback, and player out of Michigan in his recruitment class, judging Underwood's nonexistent collegiate career as equivalent to a No. 8 spot in the Big Ten is questionable. A case that can be made is the mere potential for and expectations on the incoming freshman. However, putting Underwood in the top 10, never mind also above two quarterbacks with NCAA experience, is not justifiable.
Even in a rebuilding phase that Michigan State is going through with head coach Jonathan Smith, Chiles has grown in the offseason and is more comfortable with the Spartans. Confidence and limiting interceptions will need to be his main focus. Especially with the addition of former Oregon State quarterbacks coach Jon Boyer, the cards are falling in Chiles' favor to be at least a top 10 quarterback in the Big Ten.

DJ Lagway Injury Scare Not the Only Red Flag for Billy Napier's Florida Gators in 2025

DJ Lagway Injury Scare Not the Only Red Flag for Billy Napier's Florida Gators in 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Billy Napier and Florida Gators are seriously dependant on DJ Lagway to succeed this season. Even last year, he chimed in when they really needed a miracle to bring the season back from the dead. Advertisement ESPN college football's insider Greg McElroy believes Gators' will face their "worst case scenario" if DJ Lagway is not regularly and optimally available to play for them. But outside his concerns, there's another threat looming on the team. Gators face the much-talked about gruelling schedule. Again, they were partially able to survive it last year. But this year is a whole new story. Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier gives an injured Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway (2) a hug after the game at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, FL.© Doug Engle/Gainesville Sun / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Breaking down the worst case scenario for Gators on Always College Football, Greg McElroy said, "The brutal schedule eventually takes its toll. Last year, it didn't. They got stronger as the season went along and started to win some of those games down the stretch that you thought they might be out of gas in... ...But this year, they have one of the hardest schedules in college football." Advertisement Gators kick off their season against relatively easy opponents, Long Island and South Florida, in week 1 and week 2 respectively. But this is just the silence before the potential storm. The first two games are followed by four brutal match ups for Florida starting with LSU, followed by Miami, Texas and finally Texas A&M. According to ESPN's Football Power Index, Florida is set to finish 6-6 owing to their difficult schedule. But Greg McElroy sees them overcoming all of these odds given their tremendous momentum from last year's final stretch. Gators were able to garner impact wins with DJ Lagway at the centre. The win against Ole Miss could serve as a morale booster as it resulted it Lane Kiffin's Rebels missing the playoff. DJ Lagway is still limited in practice but he still has two more months to recover from his injury. And since he was leading the team for the better part of last season, he will not have early pains like a starter would have had. Fever React to Caitlin Clark, Indiana Players' Pregame Outfits on Tuesday

Fever React to Caitlin Clark, Indiana Players' Pregame Outfits on Tuesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever enter Tuesday's game against the Connecticut Sun with a 5-5 record. They are coming off a huge victory over the New York Liberty and now look to string wins together. Advertisement Making things more interesting, the Fever have a chance to punch their ticket to the Commissioner's Cup championship for the first time in history. However, they will need to beat the Sun and hope that the Liberty take down the Atlanta Dream in order to achieve that. The good news for the Fever is that they have Caitlin Clark back in the fold, and she doesn't look rusty at all despite missing five straight games due to a quad injury. Clark recorded a near triple-double of 32 points, eight rebounds and nine assists in Indiana's 102-88 win over New York the last time out. While the Fever's focus is on the crucial game that awaits, that didn't stop them from making a statement off the court before the showdown starts. Advertisement The All-Star guard rocked a dark brown leather jacket with a tucked-in white top, which she paired with wide-leg pants. Meanwhile, Sophie Cunningham wore an all-white outfit — a long-sleeve shirt, along with a tube top and shorts. Aliyah Boston went for a simple sports bra and leggings, while Lexie Hull showed up in an off-shoulder printed mini-dress. The Fever flexed their players' outfits on social media, writing in the caption, "certified fits." Sure enough, fans loved Clark and her teammates' wardrobe choices, taking to the comment section to share their reactions. "Lexie fire as always. AB with a super casual fit, I rate that," a commenter wrote. Another fan said, "Ok gals lets bringgg ittt." Advertisement "Sophie wowowo," a supporter added. A follower remarked, "I love how some of them went casual and others got all dressed up." "Looking good..." a social media user praised Indiana.
