Car lifted out from Tanjong Katong sinkhole

SINGAPORE: A car that fell into a sinkhole along Tanjong Katong Road South was lifted out on Sunday (Jul 27) afternoon.
A crane was used to lift the blue car out of the hole before it was lowered back onto the road. Its windscreen was smashed, with the roof dented in.
Workers then used a light blue sheet to cover the car.
Member of Parliament Goh Pei Ming said earlier on Sunday that the ground at the sinkhole is stable and that authorities were working to remove the water before extricating the car.
In an update on Facebook, PUB said that the driver was able to walk and was undergoing further check-ups. The agency said it was in touch with her to provide 'the necessary support'.
It also acknowledged the quick actions by the workers who pulled the woman out of the sinkhole. It had earlier attributed her rescue to the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
The sinkhole appeared along Tanjong Katong Road South on Saturday, causing a vehicle to fall into the water-filled hole.
The female driver was rescued by workers and taken conscious to Raffles Hospital.
Tanjong Katong Road South between Mountbatten Road and East Coast Parkway (ECP) will be closed until further notice for repairs, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Sunday morning.
Bus services 36 and 48 have been diverted.
Mr Goh, who is also Minister of State for Home Affairs, said earlier that once water levels had gone down, the authorities would assess whether it was safe to remove the vehicle.
'They understand and they also want to make sure that they are able to repair the road quickly and to restore normalcy to this area,' he said, especially for residents who need to commute to work on Monday.
WATER SUPPLY
In a Facebook post on Sunday, MP Gho Sze Kee updated that water pressure and supply to residents in nearby affected areas were fully restored at 2.30am.
Some residents had experienced disruptions to their water supply following the sinkhole.
Tanjong Katong Road South lies at the boundary between Mountbatten Single Member Constituency, where Ms Gho is the MP, and Mr Goh's ward in Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC.
Ms Gho said: 'As of now, with the works still going on round the clock, we do not as yet have clarity on the timeline to fully return to normalcy.'
PUB said in a second statement on Sunday morning that the water supply was disrupted for more than four hours after the incident.
The agency received feedback from about 18 households in the area.

Sinkhole-hit Tanjong Katong Road South to progressively reopen from Aug 2

SINGAPORE: The affected sections of Tanjong Katong Road South will reopen in stages from Saturday (Aug 2), the Land Transport Authority and PUB said in a joint statement on Friday, a week after the formation of a sinkhole forced its closure. Tanjong Katong Road South, from East Coast Parkway (ECP) to Mountbatten Road, will open to traffic on Saturday noon while the opposite direction from Mountbatten Road to ECP will open on Monday morning from 5am, the agencies added. "The Land Transport Authority and PUB have completed repair works and safety assessment of the affected road sections along Tanjong Katong Road South, as well as the surrounding roads," the statement read. "These checks, conducted in consultation with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), have confirmed that the roads are safe for use." The site where the sinkhole opened up along Tanjong Katong Road South is adjacent to an active PUB worksite involving the construction of a 16m-deep shaft to connect three existing sewer lines. A concrete component in the shaft "failed" at around 5.50pm last Saturday, according to the national water agency. Around the same time, a sinkhole formed on the adjacent road, causing a car to fall in. LTA and PUB said that government agencies have, over the past week, worked to stabilise the ground by backfilling the sinkhole with liquefied stabilised soil. This is a mixture of soil, water and cement which is commonly used to fill up voids underground. "Following this, a series of rigorous tests were conducted to assess the ground condition and confirm that it was safe for reopening," they added. "These include probing to check for voids and weak ground, ground penetrating radar surveys to detect subsurface abnormalities and seismic surveys to map the density and stability of underground layers. "Based on these scans, no anomalies or cavities were detected within the area." Bus services 36 and 48, which were temporarily diverted, will also resume their original routing in the east-bound direction towards Changi Airport and Bedok on Saturday noon. As for the west-bound direction towards the city via ECP, they will serve all the affected bus stops along Tanjong Katong Road South, Mountbatten, Amber and Marine Parade roads on Monday, from the start of service. "Motorists may continue to see ongoing works in the area, including repairs to underground utilities or laying of new utilities in replacement of damaged utilities after the roads have reopened," said LTA and PUB.

147,000 customer records affected following data breach at Cycle & Carriage

SINGAPORE: A breach at Cycle & Carriage's database has affected about 147,000 records containing customer information, the car distributor said on Friday (Aug 1). In response to CNA's queries, a spokesperson from Cycle & Carriage said that it was alerted on Jul 14 to "unauthorised access" into its customer relationship management system by a threat actor who downloaded some customer information. "About 147,000 data records are affected. Most of the downloaded records have missing or partial information," added the spokesperson. The affected data records may contain names and contact information - such as email addresses and phone numbers - with about 2 per cent of them containing National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) numbers and deposit amounts. No banking or credit card information was divulged, the spokesperson said. "Once we became aware of the incident, we have taken measures to prevent further unauthorised access to the system. "A thorough investigation was carried out and forensic experts were activated to look into the possible causes of this unauthorised access," the spokesperson added. Apologising to affected customers, Cycle & Carriage said that the company has internal processes, protocols, and training in place to support data governance and cyber hygiene, but will continue to "review and refine these as needed" in light of the incident. The firm has lodged a police report and notified the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC). It has also begun to inform affected customers in batches from Wednesday. In an email sent to a customer on Thursday, which CNA has seen, the firm referred to a "cybersecurity incident" and added that it was still investigating the full scope of the breach. Customers were advised to be cautious of phishing activities or suspicious requests for personal information.

Automotive distributor Cycle & Carriage suffers customer data breach

[SINGAPORE] The personal information of a number of customers of automotive distributor Cycle & Carriage Singapore (C&C) has been leaked in a data breach. Based on an e-mail seen by The Business Times and sent to the company's customers on Thursday (Jul 31), an unknown threat actor gained access to C&C's customer relationship management system on Jul 14. This actor downloaded some customers' information, which may have included their name, e-mail address, mailing address and phone number. However, banking and credit card information were not contained in the data that was accessed. The e-mail did not elaborate on how many individuals were affected. C&C is conducting an investigation and has lodged a police report. It has also alerted the Personal Data Protection Commission, as well as the customers whose data may have been compromised. It also urged its customers to remain vigilant of phishing or suspicious requests. BT has contacted C&C for further details, including the number of customers involved and whether the breach is limited to clients in Singapore. In the city-state, C&C is the agent for a number of automotive brands, including Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Citroen, Smart, Gogoro and Maxus. It is part of Singapore Exchange-listed Jardine Cycle & Carriage, which has a major automotive presence in the region, including Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.
