Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace - the fans' verdict

BBC News3 days ago
We asked for your thoughts after Saturday's Premier League game between Chelsea and Crystal Palace. Here are some of your comments:Chelsea fansRichard: Underwhelming would be a kind description. Blunt in attack and vulnerable in defence. The full attack was available but could barely muster an attempt on target. Do the players work on accurate shooting in training sessions? So little creativity on display. A really disappointing start and two home points are gone already. Much more is expected, starting Friday. Fortunate in the VAR intervention that ruled out the Palace 'winner'.Nick: After the great summer, seems like we've put the handbrake back on. Really disappointing performance. We've got great attackers - we need to set them free and then the goals will come.James: So much for our refurbished attack - they've got to start firing. Gittens was useless on that wing, Joao Pedro seemed non-existent. Delap had a good physical presence but couldn't get a shot at goal, Estevao was looking quite positive. Looking forward to when we start firing - we will be unstoppable.Crystal Palace fansRobert: A great gutsy performance by the whole team amid speculation of possibly losing Guehi and Eze. I really hope they will stay in this great squad. As for the disallowed goal, it was six of one and half a dozen of the other by both players which led to Eze's disallowed goal. I think the goal should have stood. Why on earth can't the transfer window close BEFORE the season starts? It's ridiculous how it is now.Gary: I thought it was an excellent performance against Chelsea's millions. We only spent £2m so far. We've proved once again we can compete against the 'bigger' clubs. Eze was unlucky to have his goal ruled out as otherwise it was a win. An excellent performance, especially defensively.Corin: Promising start to the season. Well organised in defence and dangerous in attack. Wharton is such an effortlessly classy player! Two years in a row we've had a goal disallowed in the first game. Should have been a penalty when Sanchez punched Guehi just before half-time. Glasner deserves praise for what he has achieved. If Eze and or Guehi go, they go with massive thanks and will always be legends at Palace. Without them, Palace will still be a test for anyone.

Sheffield Wednesday want Cardiff City star as Barry-Murphy gives verdict on outcast trio

Sheffield Wednesday want Cardiff City star as Barry-Murphy gives verdict on outcast trio Three players appear to have been frozen out, while one is reportedly attracting interest from the Championship Ethan Horvath of Cardiff City celebrates with teammates following the team's victory in the penalty shootout against Stoke (Image: Getty Images) Cardiff City goalkeeper Ethan Horvath has reportedly emerged as a target for Sheffield Wednesday as the Championship club scramble to solve their growing goalkeeping crisis. ‌ The USA international, who has yet to feature for the Bluebirds this season, is being lined up by the Owls as a short-term replacement for first-choice keeper Pierce Charles, who has been sidelined with a shoulder injury, according to Football League World. ‌ Horvath, 30, made 33 Championship appearances for Cardiff over the past two campaigns but has slipped down the pecking order following the summer arrival of Nathan Trott on loan from FC Copenhagen. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community. ‌ He has not been named in any of Brian Barry-Murphy's matchday squads so far this term and it is understood the shot-stopper is free to leave, with Matt Turner occupying the back-up 'keeper role on the bench at present. Indeed there are two others in a similar position to Horvath, with fellow goalkeeper Jak Alnwick also not featuring in any of the matchday squads this term. Jesper Daland, meanwhile, has not been seen since the home game against Peterborough United, with Barry-Murphy revealing he is in talks with other clubs over an exit. ‌ When asked by WalesOnline about the frozen-out trio, Barry-Murphy said on Thursday: "Jesper was in discussions with another club. I have no update on that because I have no idea how close it is or what the progress has been on that. "The situation hasn't changed from my point of view. "No update on Ethan or Jak. I don't know the conversations they may or may not be having with their representatives. ‌ "But as it is now, they are our players." Barry-Murphy further clarified saying that Daland was in talks with other clubs, but, to his knowledge Horvath and Alnwick were not. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here. Reports, however, suggest Wednesday are weighing up either a free transfer or emergency loan deal to bring Horvath to Hillsborough, with boss Henrik Pedersen currently without a senior goalkeeper to call upon. ‌ Horvath has significant Championship experience with Nottingham Forest, Luton Town and Cardiff, as well as Champions League outings during his time at Belgian giants Club Brugge. He played a key role in Luton's promotion-winning season in 2022/23, keeping 20 clean sheets under Rob Edwards as the Hatters reached the Premier League via the play-offs. A move to Yorkshire would hand Horvath the chance to get back on the pitch and provide Wednesday with an experienced option as they contend with a squad crisis under owner Dejphon Chansiri. ‌ --- *Follow all of our social channels to ensure you stay up to date with the latest Bluebirds news. Tottenham remain interested in Savinho after missing out on Eberechi Eze

Spurs were all set to capture Eze after they reached an agreement with Crystal Palace on Wednesday for a £60million plus £7.5m in adds-on deal until Arsenal swooped in to hijack the transfer of the England international. Eze would have filled the creative void at Tottenham left by James Maddison, who is set to miss the rest of the season after he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee earlier this month, but Thomas Frank must now shift focus elsewhere. Intensity 🆙 💪 @BetMGMUK — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) August 20, 2025 Talks were opened between Spurs and Manchester City on August 11 regarding the versatile Savinho, who made 48 appearances and produced 13 assists in his debut campaign at Etihad Stadium. While dialogue cooled as Tottenham explored a big-money move for Eze over the past week, Savinho is still a target for the north London club, PA understands, and reports in Brazil suggest an 80million euros (£69.2m) bid is being prepared. Frank has enjoyed a strong start to life at Spurs, with an impressive Super Cup display in defeat to Paris St Germain followed by a 3-0 victory over Burnley last Saturday but next month will bring the challenge of Champions League football. With Maddison out long-term and Dejan Kulusevski (knee) sidelined for the foreseeable future, the Danish coach is in need of attacking reinforcements and talks over Savinho could soon accelerate, especially after Saturday's trip to Man City.
