Lakers insider loves the idea of trading for former All-Star wing
Most of the attention, as far as the Los Angeles Lakers' needs, has been focused on their very weak center rotation. But they also need help at the wing spot, whether that means getting a starting-level two-way wing or simply one or two 3-and-D players who will contribute off the bench.
Some Lakers fans are likely hoping the team can land Andrew Wiggins, a two-way wing who currently plays for the Miami Heat. He had previously played for the Golden State Warriors, where he was an All-Star starter and won an NBA championship in 2022. This season, he averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists a game, and he hit 37.4% of his 5.8 3-point attempts per game.
After sending Jimmy Butler to the Warriors in February and receiving Wiggins in that trade, the Heat could very well be inclined to make significant changes this offseason. When asked about a hypothetical trade that would send out Rui Hachimura for Wiggins, Lakers beat writer Jovan Buha said during a recent episode of "Buha's Block" that Wiggins would fill several needs for Los Angeles (h/t Lakers Daily).
'I like that trade,' Buha said. 'I know Wiggins has been a popular guy for Lakers Twitter. He is someone that — I think among the realistic options — he is someone that would check a lot of boxes for the Lakers.'
Wiggins, who is 30 years of age, would presumably do a better job of guarding wings and guards than Hachimura, whose natural position is power forward, can. As a natural 3, he would be a better fit alongside LeBron James, who seems to be best suited to playing the 4 at this point in his career.
Wiggins will make $28.2 million next season, so he would cost L.A. quite a bit in terms of trade assets. But perhaps he would be worth going after, as long as the team would have enough remaining trade assets to upgrade at the 5.

Lakers Linked to All-Star Forward in Massive Trade Rumor

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Los Angeles Lakers are entering a crucial offseason following an earlier-than-expected playoff exit. The Lakers' front office will need to get creative this summer to put together a much more competitive roster. Los Angeles will be looking to go after upgrades to the frontcourt, but the team also needs more help along the wing as well. The Lakers could use more defensive help, ensuring the team to be able to be well-rounded on both ends of the floor. One name that has been linked to the Lakers is All-Star forward Andrew Wiggins of the Miami Heat. Lakers insider Jovan Buha mentioned him as a potential trade target for the offseason. "I like that trade," Buha said of a hypothetical deal that would send Lakers forward Rui Hachimura to the Heat for Wiggins. "I know Wiggins has been a popular guy for Lakers Twitter. He is someone that — I think among the realistic options — he is someone that would check a lot of boxes for the Lakers." Heat Ex-Teammate Threatened to 'Whoop' Warriors' Jimmy Butler

Heat Ex-Teammate Threatened to 'Whoop' Warriors' Jimmy Butler originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Miami Heat took the odd step of keeping Udonis Haslem around on the roster for 20 years, until he was 42 years old. That was at least six years past his sell-by date: In his final six seasons in Miami, Haslem played only 65 games. Advertisement But he was, essentially, a coach on the bench and in the locker room for the Heat, and more important, he had the back of coach Erik Spoelstra. That was evident throughout the team's recent turmoil with star forward Jimmy Butler, who was traded to the Warriors in February after a rough ending to his partnership with the Miami Heat. Haslem, for one, did not appreciate the way Butler handled his Miami exit. Butler struggled to stay on the the floor in 2023-24 because of injuries, was called out by team president Pat Riley, and then sat out much of 2024-25 with more "injuries" as he sought a contract extension. Advertisement Haslem appeared on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Wednesday and spoke about one of the times he and Butler nearly got into a scuffle, back when Butler wanted to fight Spoelstra during a timeout back in March 2022. Haslem's response applied well to how Butler handled his final season in Miami. Yeah, I was gonna whoop Jimmy (expletive)," Haslem said. "It's OK, and I love Jimmy. But before I let one guy take down this locker room, I will whoop your (expletive). There's 15 other guys in this locker room got the right mindset. Before I let this one guy take down this whole 15, I'll whip your (expletive)." After playing just 25 games for the Heat last year, Butler played 30 to close the year for Golden State. Angel Reese Makes Chicago Sky Admission After Another Blowout Loss

Angel Reese Makes Chicago Sky Admission After Another Blowout Loss originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky lost a second straight game in blowout fashion on Tuesday, with the New York Liberty leading from start to finish for the 85-66 win. Advertisement It's now the Sky's sixth loss of the season and the fifth time they have been defeated in double digits. In their losses so far, their opponents have had an average winning margin of 20.7 points. During Tuesday's showdown, the Liberty shot 47.9% from the field. Although they struggled shooting from deep, they still dominated the Sky and led by as many as 34 points. Following the loss, Reese pointed to a recurring issue that the Sky need to address: defense. The All-Star forward admitted that it's a key area where they simply need to "be better" if they hope to turn things around. "Defense is something we have to improve on and we need to continue to just have to be better," Reese told the media, per Sky reporter Karli Bell. Chicago is one of the worst defensive teams in the WNBA so far, ranking 12th in defensive rating — only ahead of the Connecticut Sun. Their offense leaves much to be desired, as they average just 76.0 points per game — which ranks 12th in the league. They also have the second-worst offensive rating (93.5).
