Vijay Shah advocates weekly yoga sessions in MP's Khandwa to restore social harmony
Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh): Amid ongoing controversy over his recent remarks on a senior Army officer, Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah sought to recast his public image on International Yoga Day by championing yoga as a unifying force for society. Speaking at a district-level event in Khandwa, Shah urged the city's mayor to organize 'weekly yoga sessions in every ward', emphasising that such gatherings could foster 'social harmony and goodwill' in an increasingly fragmented urban landscape. 'Yoga transcends caste, religion, and society. It uplifts the body, mind, and intellect,' Shah said, drawing a symbolic parallel between Swami Vivekananda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi -- both 'Narendras,' as he put it -- who have, in his words, 'shown the world the path of spiritual and cultural leadership.' The remarks come at a time when Shah is facing public and judicial scrutiny for his controversial comments about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, an Indian Army officer. The Madhya Pradesh High Court had directed police to file an FIR (first information report) against him, and the Supreme Court has rebuked him for what it called 'unacceptable and insensitive' language. Later, a special investigation team was constituted to investigate the matter following orders from the Supreme Court. Yet on Saturday, Shah struck a markedly different tone. Addressing over 600 students from 20 schools gathered at a private school for the 11th International Yoga Day, he spoke of yoga as a tool to reconnect people in the digital age. 'We rarely visit each other's homes anymore. These yoga sessions will give us a reason to gather, to check in on one another, and to rebuild the bonds of community,' he said. The event, organised by the district administration, was attended by public representatives, officials, and educators. It echoed the national theme of 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health,' reinforcing India's vision of yoga as a bridge between personal well-being and collective consciousness.

Speaking to ANI, Eknath Shinde said, "'21 taarikh ko hi humne bada Yoga kiya tha (splitting of Shiv Sena into two factions), wo marathon Yoga tha". That Yoga began in Mumbai, and because of that, on June 21, Maharashtra has changed a lot; we are seeing development here. Our government has been working for the people. Shinde has shown 'real Shiv Sena', says Amit Shah; Raut rubbishes claim
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has shown the "real Shiv Sena" to everybody, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said, drawing a sharp reaction from the Shiv Sena (UBT). Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday claimed Shah's remark had rubbed salt into the wounds of Marathi people. Shah made the remark on Friday while acknowledging the presence of Shinde at an event organised by the lobby grouping Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industries & Agriculture (MACCIA) here. The Bal Thackeray-founded party split in June 2022 after Shinde rebelled and brought down the Maha Vikas Aghadi government under Uddhav Thackeray. Since then, the two factions have been engaged in an acrimonious battle to lay claim to the founder's legacy and be called the "real Shiv Sena". "Shinde has shown which is the real Shiv Sena to everybody," Shah said. The remarks come a day after both the Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray factions, now called Shiv Sena and Shiv Sena (UBT), respectively, celebrated the undivided party's foundation day. Meanwhile, taking a dig at Shah, Raut said calling Shinde's party the "real Shiv Sena" is akin to saying the Republican Party in the US belongs to Ramdas Athawale. "Everyone knows Amit Shah owns Shinde's party. He says Shinde's outfit is the real Shiv Sena. It is like saying the Republican Party in the US belongs to Ramdas Athawale. US President Donald Trump belongs to the Republican Party, and Athawale, who is a minister in the Modi government, heads the Republican Party of India (A)," the Sena (UBT) MP told reporters. He claimed that despite all efforts, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) is standing tall, and this is frustrating the ruling alliance. In polls held in November last year for the 288-member Maharashtra assembly, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena won in 57 constituencies, while the Sena (UBT) could clinch only 20 seats. In 36 seats, the Shiv Sena candidate defeated Sena (UBT) contestants. The battle of the Senas is bound to get more fierce in the upcoming local body polls across the state, especially in Mumbai, the country's richest civic body, which was a bastion of the undivided Shiv Sena for many decades.
