July 2
July 2, 2025 weather watches and warnings in Alberta.
It's important to note that the vast majority of that region will not see a tornado. However, anyone in the watch region should be on alert for severe storms and have a plan in place to find safe shelter if one of those storms develops near you.
If a tornado does develop, an Alberta Emergency alert will be sent out to mobile phones in the affected area.
Most of central and northern Alberta remain under a severe thunderstorm watch, including the city of Edmonton and surrounding areas.
Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for parts of northwest Alberta and areas near Drayton Valley and Red Deer (as of 5 p.m.).
Reminder - a watch means 'potential' for storms. A warning means the severe weather has developed or is imminent.
We'll continue to monitor the situation and update as the situation develops.

What's causing all the power outages in Yellowknife?
Power went out in parts of Yellowknife again Wednesday afternoon — the latest in a series of power outages residents have been dealing with that started Tuesday evening. The afternoon outage, which started around 4:30 p.m., was due to issues with one of the Northwest Territories Power Corporation's (NTPC) diesel engines, the company said in a Facebook post. Power was restored about an hour later. It was the fourth outage since Tuesday evening. Tuesday's outage was caused by Naka Power while they were doing work on their infrastructure, according to a Facebook post by NTPC. That outage lasted about 15 minutes, though could have been longer in some areas of the city. Another outage occurred Wednesday morning around 8 a.m. NTPC posted on Facebook that resulted in a full outage for Yellowknife, Ndilǫ, Dettah and Behchokǫ̀. That outage lasted more than 30 minutes and NTPC said it is still investigating the cause. A third outage hit the southwestern section of the city at about 11 a.m. An NTPC spokesperson said the 11 a.m. outage was caused by Naka Power. Naka Power posted on its website that it would be doing work on Old Airport Road from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. that would result in a planned outage in the area. Naka Power posted on its Facebook page at about 11 a.m. that there was an unplanned outage in the Range Lake area. Naka Power was planning more work on Thursday in the Frame Lake and Range Lake area. There was a planned outage between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Thursday on Byrne Road, Bromley Drive, Knutsen Court, Knutsen Avenue, Woolgar Avenue and Bigelow Crescent. But Naka Power posted on Facebook Wednesday morning it would be cancelling that work. NTPC has recorded a 30 per cent increase in power outages in the territory so far this year, largely due to outages in the North and South Slave regions. There's been over 90 outages this year. Over the last five years, the average has been 66 per year. Naka Power is a power utility, which owns, operates and maintains power poles, power lines and other electrical infrastructure in several N.W.T. communities, including substations and diesel plants. NTPC distributes electricity to 26 of the territory's 33 communities and supplies electricity to Naka Power.
