Ben Sulayem drives major improvements to Appendix B of FIA's International Sporting Code - Middle East Business News and Information
Dubai, UAE: The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has announced that it will make major improvements to Appendix B of its International Sporting Code (ISC) following an extensive review commissioned by FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
The latest version of Appendix B of the ISC was introduced in January 2025, aligning the FIA with other global sporting organisations such as FIFA, the National Football League and World Rugby, all of which have strong codes of conduct to protect the integrity of their respective sports.
The ISC provides the stewards with the necessary regulatory tools to ensure they have all relevant information regarding the range of penalties that may be imposed and the procedures to be followed. This enables them to apply penalties in a consistent and transparent manner.
The review was carried out in collaboration with the FIA Drivers' Committee and its President, Ronan Morgan, as well as the FIA Formula One Steward Chairs. Input was also received from FIA Members Clubs and other motor sport organisations across the seven FIA World Championships.
The main changes to Appendix B are as follows: The base maximum penalty has been reduced generally from €10,000 to €5,000. This is a reduction of 50%. However, for FIA World Championships, where multipliers were involved, the reductions will be even more significant.
Stewards will have the option to fully suspend a penalty for certain types of breach, provided it is the first offence by the driver or team.
Following approval via e-vote by the WMSC, the amended Appendix B will allow stewards to differentiate between controlled and non-controlled environments, effectively recognising the difference between language used in 'uncontrolled' and 'controlled' environments. Controlled environments include settings such as press conferences, while uncontrolled environments refer to spontaneous comments made by drivers or teams when on track or during a rally stage.
Mitigating circumstances will continue to be considered, with additional guidance available to promote consistency and fairness for all parties in the application of Appendix B.
Abuse of officials will now result in sporting penalties rather than fines, aligning motor sport with other major global sports organisations
Racial and discriminatory comments will continue to be addressed firmly.
Stewards will retain the supreme authority to decide which penalty to impose in the event of a breach of the ISC.
FIA President Ben Sulayem, said: 'As a former rally driver, I know firsthand the range of emotions that are faced during competition. I have led an extensive and collaborative review with contributions from across the seven FIA World Championships, FIA Member Clubs and other motor sports organisations.
'The improvements the FIA has announced today to Appendix B will ensure we continue to promote the best of sportsmanship in motor sport, while also giving Stewards effective guidelines to act against individuals who may bring the sport into disrepute. The FIA will always be committed to ensuring motor sport is accessible for all our sporting family.'
Ronan Morgan said: 'Drivers are looked up to as role models by young fans and are rightly seen as ambassadors for the wider world of motor sport. How they act really does matter, but it is important to recognise that there is a difference between what is said during a race and in a press conference.
'Today's changes further strengthen the FIA's International Sporting Code supporting our drivers by understanding the pressures they face during the heat of competition.'

Plan B receives highest honour from the President of Seychelles for organising FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2025 in Seychelles
Dubai-based branding, marketing, advertisement and event management conglomerate Plan B Group has received a State Award from the President of Seychelles for successfully organising the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2025 held in Seychelles in May. Wavel Ramkalawan, President of Seychelles, honoured Mr Harmeek Singh, a serial entrepreneur and Chairman of Plan B Group for his leadership in organising such a high-profile global sporting tournament as FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2025, by handing over the award at his office. Its scope of work included the design, build, and management of the beach stadium, including modular grandstands, athlete facilities, broadcast infrastructure, and hospitality zones. Despite the logistical complexities of operating on an island, Plan B ensured FIFA-standard quality across every layer — from sand treatment and seating layouts to LED integration and ceremonial areas. It also supported the Local Organising Committee (LOC) with operational planning, signage, and fan area management. This landmark project showcased its ability to work in new geographies while upholding global event excellence. The tournament was praised for its delivery and the legacy it left for sport tourism and youth development in Seychelles. Plan B Group had earlier played a pivotal role in organising the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2024 in Dubai – an event that solidified the UAE's reputation for hosting elite tournaments. It spearheaded the construction and operation of a unique beachfront stadium at Dubai Design District (d3), creating a custom sand arena in just 25 days. The venue featured a massive LED screen for close-up action replays, a plush VIP hospitality area, and a fully equipped media center, al built to FIFA's international standards. FIFA Considering Biennial Club World Cup Starting 2029
Rana Atef British media reports have revealed that FIFA is studying the possibility of staging the Club World Cup every two years, beginning in 2029, a move that could further intensify the already packed international calendar. The next edition of the tournament is scheduled for 2029, following this summer's expanded 32-team event in the United States. According to The Guardian, major European clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Napoli have pushed for the competition to become a biennial event, encouraged by the significant financial rewards. Reports indicate that FIFA does not plan to hold a tournament in 2027 but is considering adding one in 2031, given that the international match calendar is locked until 2030. Among the proposals under discussion are changes to qualification rules, including raising the maximum number of clubs allowed from the same country, and a potential expansion to 48 teams, mirroring the men's World Cup format. FIFA is also exploring the possibility of scrapping the June international break to ease fixture congestion and create space for tournaments, though UEFA is opposing the idea as it clashes with the Nations League finals. Meanwhile, FIFA is set to launch a formal bidding process for host nations starting from the 2029 edition. Unlike this year's U.S. tournament, which was awarded directly, future editions will be contested through open applications. Countries such as Qatar, Spain, and Morocco have already expressed interest in staging the competition. read more Japan Stun Spain 2-1 to Qualify for World Cup Last 16 World Cup 2022: Get to Know Confirmed Line-ups of Japan and Spain Group E Decider Saudi Arabia Bid Farewell to World Cup after 2-1 Loss to Mexico Tunisia Achieve Historic Win over France but Fail to Qualify Tunisia to Clash against France in World Cup Sports Get to Know Squad of Group D Teams in World Cup Sports Al Ahly Gift EGP 70,000 to Players After Claiming Egyptian Super Cup Title Sports Bencharki Hits First 2 Goals with Al Jazira Since Leaving Zamalek Sports Arsenal Possible Line-up for Nottingham Forest Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated
