CFDA unveils September New York Fashion Week show calendar, boasting nine debutantes
Plus, the 2025 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists Ashlyn, Bach Mai, Bernard James, Don't Let Disco, Gabe Gordon, Heirlome, Jamie Okuma, and Meruert Tolegen will hold activations or by-appointment presentations throughout the week.
The CFDA NYFW Fund was established in 2022 to raise awareness of the importance of NYFW's cultural, artistic, and economic impact. Now in its seventh season, the CFDA NYFW Fund has supported nearly 50 international editors to date with financial and in-kind support made possible through brand contributions and strategic partnerships.
'The collections this September represent the resilience and dynamism of the city through a global lens,' Joseph Maglieri, CFDA's director of Fashion Week Initiatives, said.
'With great returns to the calendar, visiting brands from around the world, and a new guard of rising talent finding their rhythm and stride, New York Fashion Week continues to be a gateway for discovery, creativity, and storytelling representing the spirit and independence of American fashion,' Maglieri added.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc. is a not-for-profit trade association founded in 1962 with a membership of more than 350 of America's foremost womenswear, menswear, jewelry, and accessory designers.

British actress and national treasure Emma Thompson was at the 78th edition of the Locarno International Film Festival this weekend to receive the Leopard Club Award prize at the Swiss festival. During her talk on Saturday, the Oscar-winning Sense And Sensibility and Love Actually actress reflected on the time when Donald Trump asked her to go out for dinner and joked how she could have 'changed the course of American history.' The moment happened while she was filming the 1998 political comedy Primary Colors – which was loosely based on Bill Clinton's 1992 presidental campaign. Thompson shared that she received a call from Trump on the same day her divorce from her first husband, fellow actor Kenneth Branagh, was confirmed. 'It was Donald Trump,' Thompson told the audience. 'He said: 'Hello, this is Donald Trump.' I thought it was a joke and asked: 'How can I help you?' Maybe he needed directions from someone.' 'Then he said: 'I'd love you to come and stay at one of my beautiful places. Maybe we could have dinner.' I said: 'Well, that's very sweet. Thank you so much. I'll get back to you.'' At the time, Trump had just split from his second wife, Marla Maples. Tompson went on to share: 'I realised that on that very day my divorce had finally come through. I bet he has people looking all over for suitable people he could take out, for all these nice divorcees - I mean, he found the number of my trailer! That's stalking!' She added: 'So yes, I could have gone on a date with Donald Trump. I could have changed the course of American history!' This is not the first time that Thompson has shared the anecdote. In 2017, she told Swedish TV host Fredrik Skavlan: 'I didn't know what to do with myself. I was on my own and I just said: 'OK, well I'll get back to you! Thank you so much for ringing.'' The talk covered Thompson's career, and lingered on one of her most famous roles: Karen in Richard Curtis' Christmas romcom Love Actually (2003). Reflecting on the film's popularity, she said: 'I mean, it's honestly a constant source of astonishment to me that that film lasted – not that I don't like the film. I like it very much, but it's weird.' It is weird – and a source of much debate in the Euronews Culture office. 'The Mandalorian' actress Gina Carano settles lawsuit with Disney
American actress Gina Carano has settled her federal lawsuit against Lucasfilm and its parent The Walt Disney Co. over her claim that she was fired from the hit show The Mandalorian in 2021 for expressing right-wing views on social media. The specific terms of the agreement were not made available. The lawsuit, filed in a federal court in California last year, alleged Carano - a former mixed martial artist who played the recurring character Cara Dune on the Star Wars galaxy Disney+ series - was wrongfully terminated after two seasons due to a post likening the treatment of American conservatives to the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany. "Because history is edited, most people today don't realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews," her post read. "How is that any different from hating someone for their political views." Carano's posts were widely criticized online and spurred a trending #FireGinaCarano hashtag. The suit had alleged that the 43-year-old actress was fired because she 'dared voice her own opinions' against an 'online bully mob who demanded her compliance with their extreme progressive ideology.' 'Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect," Lucasfilm said in a statement. "With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.' The two sides stipulated in a federal court filing that the case should be dismissed with prejudice, meaning it can't be refiled. A judge still needs to formally dismiss it. The case had been scheduled to go to trial in Los Angeles in February of next year. Carano thanked Elon Musk for helping fund the lawsuit 'and asking for nothing in return." Indeed, we reported last year that Musk would be footing her legal bill. Altered video of Minneapolis mayoral candidate spreads online

Image Screenshot from X taken August 7, 2025 Similar posts spread across the platform as Fateh's campaign for mayor picked up steam after the city's Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party -- the local branch of national Democrats -- endorsed him over two-term incumbent Mayor Jacob Frey. The video spreading online appears to mock Fateh's heritage -- and is altered. A reverse image search revealed the footage of Fateh was lifted from a 2022 hearing over ethics complaints brought against Fateh, who had recently been elected to the Minnesota State Senate. Fateh is seen wearing the same outfit in the original recording uploaded by the legislature (archived here). At no point during the session did Fateh make the comment in question. "This is AI-generated, and this is not something Omar Fateh has said," Fateh's co-campaign manager Graham Faulkner told AFP in an August 6 email. According to local news, a panel went on to dismiss the 2022 complaints against Fateh, lodged by Republican lawmakers who alleged that he had solicited free advertising from a Somali TV YouTube channel in exchange for introducing a bill that would have provided a grant to the network. The "I am the mayor now" quote appears to be a reference to "Captain Phillips," a starring actor Tom Hanks in which the character played by Barkhad Abdi, a Somali-American actor, says: "Look at me.
