Malaysia's compound trio strike women's team gold at Asia Cup
The third-seeded Malaysians faced a tough challenge in the final against top seeds India, represented by Shanmukhi Naga Sai, Tejal Salve and Tanishka Nilkumar.
However, the Malaysian trio rose to the occasion, delivering an impressive performance to tie India 232-232 after four rounds, forcing the match into a shoot-off.
In the shoot-off, all three Malaysian archers maintained their momentum to score 29 points, while India managed only 26.
The bronze medal went to Kazakhstan, who beat Bangladesh 234-230.
Fatin Nurfatehah's hopes of securing a second medal were dashed after losing in the bronze medal match of the individual compound event to Indonesia's Yurike Nina Bonita Pereira.
The Malaysian lost narrowly 8-10 in the shoot-off after both archers were tied at 146-146.
The gold medal was won by India's Tejal, who edged teammate Shanmukhi 146-144.

PETALING JAYA: Independent mixed doubles shuttler Lai Pei Jing has accepted an invitation to spar with the French team ahead of the World Championships from Aug 25-31 in Paris. The experienced Pei Jing was approached by French coaches when she was competing with Jimmy Wong in the Luxembourg Open in May. "During a tournament in Luxembourg, French coaches approached me and asked if I was interested in sparring with their players. "I spoke to my coach (Teo Kok Siang) about it because the players here (in Malaysia) also need me. "But he understood that I needed the money, so he gave me his blessing. "This is my first time serving as a sparring partner for another country – but my heart remains with the Malaysian players," said Pei Jing. The French team, which includes world No. 8 Alex Lanier (men's singles) and world No. 7 Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue (mixed doubles) will definitely be eyeing a good showing in the world meet at home. Pei Jing, who will turn 33 in August, made nine appearances in the world meet, three with Tan Aik Quan and six with Tan Kian Meng, and came closest to winning a medal in 2022 when she and Kian Meng reached the quarter-finals. Pei Jing ended her partnership with Kian Meng in March after the latter decided to retire from the sport.

Pei Jing to spar with France's world championships team
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian shuttlers have long been sought after for their expertise by European counterparts, and now it's Lai Pei Jing's turn to render her service abroad. The mixed doubles specialist, who forms a professional partnership with Jimmy Wong, will travel to France later this month, after the Macau Open, to serve as sparring partner to the French national team for two weeks in their preparations for the World Championships in Paris from July 25-Aug 31. Pei Jing revealed that she was approached by the French coaches when competing at the Luxembourg Open in May. She said she went to seek coach Teo Kok Siang's blessings because this was also a crucial period for the independent shuttlers' camp as teammates such as world No. 6 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie are also gearing up for the world meet.
