Prince Harry denies giving Prince Andrew bloody nose at family gathering

Irish Times2 days ago
Prince Harry
has denied he gave
Prince Andrew
'a bloody nose' during a fight at a family gathering in 2013.
According to an excerpt from a new biography of the disgraced Duke of York, published in the Daily Mail on Saturday, the pair had a heated argument that escalated into a physical altercation. 'Punches were thrown over something Andrew said behind Harry's back', the author Andrew Lownie claimed.
The alleged fight began when 'Harry told [his uncle] he was a coward not to say it to his face. Harry got the better of Andrew by all accounts, leaving him with a bloody nose before the fight was broken up.'
Lownie's biography, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, also claims Andrew told his nephew that his marriage to Meghan Markle, now the Duchess of Sussex, would 'not last more than a month'.
He allegedly 'accused Meghan of being an opportunist and thought she was too old for Harry, adding that his nephew was making the biggest mistake ever,' and told his nephew he had gone 'bonkers', accusing him of not doing 'any due diligence into her past' before they got engaged in 2017.
Late on Saturday, a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said: 'I can confirm Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight, nor did Prince Andrew ever make the comments he is alleged to have made about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry.'
The duke and duchess have sent a legal letter to the Daily Mail over the publication of what their spokesperson described as 'gross inaccuracies, damaging and defamatory remarks'.
Prince Andrew fell from grace after a
disastrous Newsnight interview
in 2019 about his friendship with
Jeffrey Epstein
, the late American financier and convicted sex offender. The duke was stripped of his royal and military titles in 2021.
The book claims Harry and his brother, William, had 'problematic' relationships with Andrew for years and that Andrew was also rude about William's wife, Catherine, the Princess of Wales.
King Charles
has allowed his younger brother to stay in the Royal Lodge, a 30-room mansion in Windsor Great Park owned by the crown estate. However, last year the king ended Andrew's allowance, estimated at £1 million annually, raising questions about future arrangements.
The source quoted in Lownie's biography claims the Prince of Wales is keen to 'evict' the duke and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, who lives with Andrew though the couple divorced in 1996.
According to Entitled's source, '[William] also loathes Sarah ... and can't wait for the day when his father throws them both out. If Charles doesn't, I guarantee you the first thing William does when he becomes king is to get them evicted.'
Harry broke ties with his family citing the 'toxicity' of royal life and alleged racism towards his wife, moving with his young family to Canada and then the US in 2020. In 2022 he published a memoir, Spare, in which he detailed strains in his relationships with his father and brother.
Earlier this year he told the BBC he had forgiven his family and would 'love a reconciliation'. – Guardian

Meghan Markle's birthday 'snub' from royals as Prince Harry 'makes fuss'

Meghan Markle hits a special milestone - today is her birthday. The former Suits star is celebrating turning 44 as she continues to develop her As Ever lifestyle brand, with a new wine launching this week. The last year has seen significant changes for Meghan, particularly since the start of 2025, with the debut of her new Instagram account, lifestyle brand, and her Netflix cookery show. Yet, one constant remains - Meghan and Prince Harry's ongoing estrangement from the Royal Family following their high-profile exit from the Firm. This comes amid reports that Harry will 'never be forgiven' by two senior royals despite hopes of reconciliation. Royal commentator Jennie Bond, while acknowledging Harry's desire to make his wife's birthday memorable, doubts the rest of the Royal Family will share in the sentiment. Speaking to the Mirror, the ex-BBC Royal correspondent said: "I definitely thought that being 44 was a bit of a nondescript birthday, not particularly worthy of a special celebration. But I'm sure that Harry will want to make a fuss of his wife on her special day.", reports the Mirror. "As far as I can see, he is still head over heels in love with Meghan and will probably organise a romantic dinner or perhaps a beach party with friends and lots of children to celebrate their happy family life in California. Maybe a sunrise yoga session would set the day up rather nicely!". "I don't think Meghan should hold her breath for birthday messages from the Royal family, though it may well be that Princess Eugenie - and possibly Beatrice- will send a present or a card." Nevertheless, her lifestyle brand, As Ever, maintains its presence on the platform, announcing last week that she will be releasing another batch of her rosé wine. Jennie remarked: "I think Meghan deserves to be pretty happy with how this year has gone so far. Whatever she does or says gets slammed in the media, but she has built up a substantial social media following in very little time, the products that she endorses or sells seem to do exceptionally well, and her TV and podcast shows - although clearly not ground breaking – – are perfectly watchable, however much her critics like to pan them." Regarding her Instagram presence, Meghan previously explained to Emma Grede during a podcast conversation: "I think if part of it is just being able to authentically share in real time the things that are happening that I think someone might be able to last with, or enjoy or be inspired by." She expressed her desire to share content that wasn't "not overproduced". Discussing a twerking clip she posted in June, which featured her dancing to the Baby Mama song whilst attempting to induce labour with Lili, Meghan characterised it as a glimpse into her "real, authentic fun life". The Duchess expressed how freeing it feels to return to social media, where she can now share content on her own terms. Meghan remarked, "That wasn't yesterday. That was four years ago, so it's also a really great reminder that with all the noise or whatever people do, there's still whole life, a real, authentic, fun life that's happening behind the scenes," and added, "I'm just grateful that now, being back on social as well, I have a place where I can share it on my own terms." Bob Vylan at All Together Now 2025: ‘Our fight is the Irish fight. And the Irish fight is the Palestinians' fight'

Bob Vylan Something Kind of Wonderful stage, Sunday ★★★★☆ All Together Now 's Something Kind of Wonderful tent is a sea of Palestine flags as the iconoclastic punks Bob Vylan make their entrance. The British duo had been booked to play a smaller stage but were bumped up after their recent Glastonbury performance went viral. 'Apparently there has been a lot of interest in the band recently,' says its frontman, Bobby Vylan (whose real name is widely reported to be Pascal Robinson-Foster). 'And so they have to move us over here.' He's referring to the uproar that ensued at the British megafestival after Vylan led chants of 'Death, death, death to the IDF', referring to the Israel Defense Forces in Gaza. [ Glastonbury 2025: All that Kneecap and Bob Vylan outrage drowned out the air strike on the cafe birthday party Opens in new window ] Several festivals cancelled the group, and the United States revoked their visas. But they've made it to Waterford, where they put in a fantastically furious set that breathtakingly meshes punk and politics. READ MORE Wearing tracksuit leggings and shoulder-length hair, Vylan starts off bouncing on the spot. He encourages the audience to warm up with some stretching and then plunge into We Live Here, an acid-bath commentary on racism in Britain and its ever-mutating forms ('have a drink and puff your chest out / not a racist, you're just proud'). Long before Glastonbury, Bob Vylan – Bobby is backed by the drummer 'Bob Vylan' – had a reputation for getting stuck in: at a show at Whelan's in Dublin in 2023, they called out by name artists who they felt weren't advocating on behalf of Gaza. There's more where that came from at All Together Now, all of it cheered wildly by the audience. All Together Now 2025: Bobby Vylan on stage on Sunday. Photograph: Kieran Frost/Redferns Vylan's message is that his forebears' experiences are interwoven with those of Irish people and of the population in Palestine today. 'As black people in England we understand that our struggle, as it is connected to our homelands, whether it be Jamaica or we trace it all the way back to the African continent ... is the Irish fight. And the Irish fight is the Palestinians' fight. And the Palestinians' fight is the fight of all people that have suffered under occupation, under colonialism, under imperialism.' He also references attacks on the group back in Britain that echo earlier calls to have Kneecap , the Belfast/Derry rappers, dropped from Glastonbury. 'We will not have any right-wing media – or any media at all ... even the soft left – tell us we have gone too far. We will not have them tell us that we should keep our mouths shut and focus on the music.' There is now a traditional call-and-response of Free, Free Palestine. At the end, Vylan says, 'Have you heard this one, though?' and leaves the room hanging. Next come shouts of 'Death, death, death to the IDF' – though only from a minority. (The singer does not join in.) They finish with Hunger Games, a riotous diatribe about the human price of austerity and the cost-of-living crisis. As things stand they're in danger of becoming better known for their speeches than for their songs, but the lesson of this brilliantly pummelling onslaught is that Bob Vylan's music is more than capable of speaking for itself.
