JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said this aligns with the 10,000 new spots under the initiative recently announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
'…we are targeting to help more underprivileged secondary school students aged 16 and above obtain their motorcycle licence so that they can ride to school.
'JPJ, the Ministry of Education and state education departments have reviewed several matters to expand the MyLesen B2 programme to the school level,' he told reporters at the handover ceremony of the MyLesen B2 driving licence for Kedah state here today.
'I hope the government will consider JPJ's request to increase the allocation for the MyLesen B2 programme next year, as it has received an overwhelming response,' he said, adding that the programme would also ensure better compliance with road traffic laws.
The government allocated 15,000 spots for the free motorcycle licence under phase one of the programme, which began in February.
The MyLesen B2 programme is an initiative to help the B40 group obtain a free Class B2 of the Malaysian Driving Licence (LLM), as part of efforts to enhance mobility, employment opportunities, and road safety.
Meanwhile, Aedly Fadly said that only the government can decide to lower the minimum age for obtaining a driving licence below 16, adding that thorough preparations and discussions are necessary before it can be introduced.
'Currently, the minimum age to obtain a motorcycle licence is 16 and 17 for a car licence…Lowering the age limit would require thorough preparation at driving institutes, for example, as well as addressing concerns from parents,' he added. — Bernama

JPJ: ‘SIS' number plates up for auction Aug 15 to mark Selangor Sultan's Silver Jubilee
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) today said it will open online bidding from August 15 for a special 'SIS' vehicle registration plate series. It will be held in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's reign in 2026. 'The bidding process is subject to the existing terms and conditions set under the JPJeBid System. 'Any successfully bid registration number must be registered to a vehicle within twelve months from the date of the official bidding results letter,' the department said in a statement. JPJ said the 'SIS' index stands for 'Sultan Idris Shah' and honours the ninth Sultan of Selangor, marking the celebration of His Royal Highness' 25 years on the throne next year. The department said the bidding will be conducted via its JPJeBid system and will run from August 15 until 10pm on August 19, with results to be announced on the next day. JPJ added that the online auction is open to all members of the public, in line with JPJ's aim of providing a transparent and accessible platform for the purchase of special registration numbers. 'All are welcome to participate through JPJeBid as a medium to obtain their preferred registration number from the SIS series,' the department said.

Kelantan RTD seizes 13 luxury cars worth nearly RM5 million, including Mustang, GTR in statewide crackdown
KOTA BHARU, Aug 11 — The Kelantan Road Transport Department (RTD) seized 13 of the 15 luxury vehicles worth nearly RM5 million during a statewide Operasi Khas Luxury conducted since July 1. Kelantan RTD Director Mohd Misuari Abdullah said the operation, which targeted imported and luxury vehicles, was conducted to ensure adherence to road transport laws. He said the main offences detected included expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) under Section 23(1) of the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987, no insurance coverage under Section 90(1), driving without a licence under Section 26(1), and document falsification under Section 108 of the RTA 1987. 'More worryingly, there are luxury car owners who go as far as using fake registration numbers to avoid detection by the authorities, as well as cases of luxury vehicles being driven by foreigners without valid driving licences,' he told reporters here yesterday. He said among the vehicles subjected to enforcement action were Toyota Vellfire, Toyota Alphard, BMW 523i Limousine, Ford Mustang Fastback, Mercedes E250 CGI, Nissan GTR, and several other luxury models. Mohd Misuari said owning a luxury car is not an excuse to dodge the law, and RTD will continuously monitor the conduct of the vehicle owners involved. Meanwhile, from January to July this year, Kelantan RTD recorded 10,233 offences involving expired LKMs, 8,432 cases of no insurance coverage, and 11,004 cases of driving without a licence. — Bernama
