Kelantan RTD seizes 13 luxury cars worth nearly RM5 million, including Mustang, GTR in statewide crackdown
Kelantan RTD Director Mohd Misuari Abdullah said the operation, which targeted imported and luxury vehicles, was conducted to ensure adherence to road transport laws.
He said the main offences detected included expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) under Section 23(1) of the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987, no insurance coverage under Section 90(1), driving without a licence under Section 26(1), and document falsification under Section 108 of the RTA 1987.
'More worryingly, there are luxury car owners who go as far as using fake registration numbers to avoid detection by the authorities, as well as cases of luxury vehicles being driven by foreigners without valid driving licences,' he told reporters here yesterday.
He said among the vehicles subjected to enforcement action were Toyota Vellfire, Toyota Alphard, BMW 523i Limousine, Ford Mustang Fastback, Mercedes E250 CGI, Nissan GTR, and several other luxury models.
Mohd Misuari said owning a luxury car is not an excuse to dodge the law, and RTD will continuously monitor the conduct of the vehicle owners involved.
Meanwhile, from January to July this year, Kelantan RTD recorded 10,233 offences involving expired LKMs, 8,432 cases of no insurance coverage, and 11,004 cases of driving without a licence. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 — The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is maintaining its target of attracting 200,000 spectators to watch the World Motorcycle Championship (MotoGP) over three days at the 2025 Malaysian Grand Prix (GP) on October 24-26. SIC Chief Executive Officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif said the company was aware of the high target compared to the previous edition but was still determined to realise it this year. Last year's Malaysian GP recorded a three-day attendance of 184,923 spectators. 'We have reached 75 per cent of the ticket capacity sold and this year we are introducing some exciting features including the first-ever pre-race electronic dance music (EDM) festival. 'The target of 200,000 spectators is quite bold but of course with the support of everyone we know we can achieve it,' said Shafriman during the launch of the 2025 Malaysian GP here yesterday. Also present at the launch was Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh who said the race will be preceded by two EDMs on October 18-19. 'RM1 from every ticket sold will also be channelled to the National Sports Trust Fund (KWASN) which will support the development of Malaysian athletes. 'SIC is also introducing a special Buy One-One Free promotion for Malaysia GP Rahmah tickets priced at RM49.90 each. Police seek witnesses, dashcam footage of fatal Penang Bridge motorcycle accident
BUKIT MERTAJAM, Aug 13 — Police are seeking assistance from members of the public who witnessed or have dashcam footage of a fatal accident involving a motorcyclist at Kilometer 4.8 of the Penang Bridge towards Perai here yesterday afternoon. Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) District Police Chief ACP Helmi Aris said the incident was reported to the traffic complaints counter at the District Police Headquarters at 2 pm and involved a 65-year-old man. 'Initial investigations revealed that the victim was travelling from George Town towards Butterworth. Upon reaching the location, the motorcycle he was riding is believed to have brushed against another vehicle before he fell and was run over by a heavy vehicle. 'The victim, who suffered severe head and body injuries, was confirmed dead at the scene,' he said in a statement last night. Helmi stated that the investigation is being conducted under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving causing death. He said members of the public with information can contact the case's investigating officer, Insp S. Saravanan, at 016-4525105 or visit any nearby police station to assist with the investigation. The incident went viral on social media yesterday afternoon, showing the victim's body in an incomplete state on the road next to his motorcycle. — Bernama

Jakim, Jawi mosques and surau to hold ‘solat hajat', Yasin recitation in remembrance of Zara Qairina tomorrow
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 — All mosques and surau under the supervision of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI), have been instructed to hold 'solat hajat' (prayer of need) and Yasin recitation sessions tomorrow, for the late Zara Qairina Mahathir. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said that the initiative reflects the solidarity, prayers, and heartfelt remembrance of Muslims as one big family, especially for the Form One student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Tun Datu Mustapha, in Papar, Sabah. He added that the prayers also seek Allah SWT's blessings, forgiveness of all sins, and to grant Zara Qairina a place among the faithful. 'May the prayers bring peace to the family members and serve as a source of rewards for the deceased,' he said, in a statement, last night. Last Friday, the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) said that the body of Zara Qairina needed to be exhumed, to allow a post-mortem examination to be conducted. The AGC added that further police investigations were necessary, to ensure a thorough examination of all aspects of the case. Following this, on Saturday, the teenager's body was exhumed from the Tanjung Ubi Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Mesapol, Sipitang, and taken to Queen Elizabeth I Hospital for the post-mortem. Her remains were reburied at the same cemetery early Monday morning. Zara Qairina was confirmed dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on July 17. The student had been taken to the hospital after being found severely injured and unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory, in Papar, at 4 am on July 16. — Bernama
