A messaging app reportedly used by former US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz has been hacked, according to a report by tech outlet 404 Media, raising fresh concerns over the security of communications within the Trump administration.
The app, TeleMessage—branded as a secure, Signal-like platform—was allegedly compromised through a backend vulnerability, enabling a hacker to intercept user messages.
While 404 Media said no messages from Waltz or other Trump officials were accessed, the incident underscores ongoing risks posed by unofficial communication tools in government settings.
Waltz's use of TeleMessage surfaced after his ouster last week, which followed controversy over his creation of a Signal group to discuss real-time US military operations in Yemen.
The scandal deepened after a prominent journalist was mistakenly added to the chat, exposing lapses in operational security.
TeleMessage, owned by Portland-based Smarsh and now being rebranded as Capture Mobile, offers decrypted message capture for compliance with federal retention rules.
However, experts warn that such features, if poorly secured, can introduce vulnerabilities not present in fully end-to-end encrypted apps like Signal.
The hacker, who remained anonymous, reportedly provided 404 Media with intercepted data, some of which was independently verified.
TeleMessage, Smarsh, Waltz, and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Reuters was unable to independently verify the hack.
The incident echoes past breaches involving apps like Confide and WhatsApp, highlighting how user errors and insecure platforms continue to undermine digital security in high-stakes government environments.
Despite strong encryption claims, experts stress that secure technology must be paired with proper training and protocol compliance to ensure data protection.

Governor rules out talks with terrorists
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Faisal Karim Kundi, has declared that there will be no negotiations with those who defy the Constitution or challenge the writ of the state. He urged individuals supporting terrorists to cease providing them shelter, warning that intelligence-based operations will be conducted against them. Addressing the Qaumi Istehkam-e-Pakistan Conference in Peshawar and speaking to the media, the Governor emphasized that Pakistan's armed forces are capable of responding to any threat. "If our military can respond to our eternal enemy within 72 hours, a handful of terrorists hold no significance. They can be neutralized in minutes," he said. He added that while a large-scale military operation is not underway, intelligence-based actions are ongoing because locals do not want to be displaced again. Criticizing the provincial government, he said, "The K-P government is playing Jirga-Jirga while refusing to act decisively. We cannot hold talks with those who reject the Constitution." Addressing propaganda claims that the situation in certain areas is being worsened to exploit mineral resources, he countered, "If that's true, where are the mines in DI Khan, Tank, Lakki Marwat, and Bannu? This narrative is being used to undermine the army." On PTI's protests, Governor Kundi remarked that the party has been reduced to a "neighborhood group" and will soon be unable to hold rallies even in alleyways. He criticized CM Gandapur, calling him a "good boy" who has compromised on major issues. "It's unfortunate that the province's chief executive doesn't have time for Kashmiris," he added. Taking aim at PTI leader Omar Ayub, he said, "The grandson of a dictator should not lecture us on democracy. These are the same people who stood with Nawaz Sharif and General Musharraf, and are now aligned with Imran Khan. While we visit Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, they head to Corps Commander House." He recalled that PTI was handed a peaceful province in 2013 but failed to maintain law and order. Paying tribute to the armed forces, police, and security personnel, the Governor said, "It is the duty of every citizen to stand against terrorism. We want peace and prosperity in the province, which is rich in natural resources. Development, be it roads, schools, or hospitals, can only happen once peace is ensured." He stressed the need for better relations with neighboring countries but said Pakistan must rely on itself. "No savior will come from abroad," he said. Referring to past military victories, he stated, "The world called for peace when our army responded to Indian aggression. Even today, the Indian prime minister remains stunned by that response. The nation stood with the military then and continues to do so now." "We salute the martyrs of our armed forces, as well as the police and other officers who have sacrificed for the nation," he concluded.

WhatsApp has announced the launch of new features aimed at protecting users from scams, as the company steps up its efforts to combat online fraud. These new tools, designed to identify potential scams in both group and individual chats, come alongside the removal of over 6.8 million accounts linked to criminal scam operations globally. The updated features, announced on Meta's website, aim to empower users with better tools to detect and prevent scams. One of the key updates is the introduction of a safety overview for group chats. This feature will notify users when they are added to a group by someone who isn't in their contact list. Scammers often try to initiate conversations through other platforms, only to later divert the user to WhatsApp. In response, WhatsApp is testing features that alert users when they begin a chat with someone outside their contact list. These notifications will provide additional context on the person they are messaging, helping users make more informed decisions before engaging in the conversation. WhatsApp has also partnered with OpenAI to disrupt scam operations, specifically targeting a scam centre in Cambodia. The scammers had used ChatGPT to generate deceptive messages that lured people into schemes involving fake likes, pyramid schemes, and cryptocurrency investments. The scams often involved directing victims to Telegram, where they were tasked with liking TikTok videos and then asked to invest in cryptocurrency. WhatsApp's safety guidelines encourage users to take a moment before responding to unfamiliar messages. ‘Youm-e-Istehsal' observed against India's unlawful actions
ISLAMABAD: On the sixth anniversary of India's illegal and unilateral actions of 5th August 2019 in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the people and Government of Pakistan solemnly observed 'Youm-e-Istehsal' on Tuesday. Pakistan said it would continue to extend its complete moral, diplomatic and political support to the Kashmiri people's just struggle for realisation of their inalienable right to self-determination. In their special messages on the occasion, the president, the prime minister and the deputy prime minister/foreign minister have renewed Pakistan's unwavering diplomatic, political and moral support to the Kashmir cause and called for resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people. They have also underscored that India's unlawful actions since 5th August 2019 are aimed at turning the Kashmiris into a disempowered community in their own land. The deputy prime minister/foreign minister has addressed letters to president UN General Assembly, president UN Security Council, UN Secretary General, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and OIC secretary general to apprise them of the latest developments in IIOJK. In these letters, he has urged the implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions to enable the people of Jammu and Kashmir to determine their own future. He has also stressed the urgent need for improving the human rights situation in IIOJK and releasing the incarcerated Kashmiri political prisoners. Ahead of the 'Youm-e-Istehsal,' the foreign secretary briefed the Islamabad-based diplomatic missions on the situation in IIOJK, on 4th August 2025. She highlighted the legal, security and human rights dimensions of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, with special reference to the developments of the past few months in the region. To express solidarity with the oppressed people of IIOJK, a special walk was held in Islamabad, Tuesday morning, along the Constitution Avenue, up to the D-Chowk. The walk was led by Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The officers and staff members of the ministry participated in the walk, alongside people from other spheres of life. A range of activities have been designed throughout the country to observe 'Youm-e-Istehsal', which include public rallies, seminars, webinars, panel discussions and photo exhibitions. With the active participation of Pakistani and Kashmiri Diaspora, Pakistan's diplomatic missions around the world are also arranging special events to raise global awareness about the Indian oppression in IIOJK. On this day, Dar said six years ago, India took a number of unilateral and illegal actions vis-a-vis IIOJK. These measures were aimed at undermining the internationally recognised disputed status of the territory and consolidating the Indian occupation. 'India has introduced a number of laws aimed at changing the demographic structure and political landscape of IIOJK since 5 August 2019. Issuing domicile certificates to outsiders, registering temporary residents in the voters' lists, gerrymandering of the Assembly constituencies, modification of land and property ownership laws, and according greater administrative powers to the so-called Lieutenant Governor are some key measures which have been introduced in that connection. Clearly, all these actions are in blatant violation of the UN Charter, United Nations Security Council resolutions, and international law, including the 4th Geneva Convention,' he asserted. In the continued presence of hundreds of thousands of Indian troops, IIOJK remains one of the highly militarised zones in the world. Thousands of Kashmiri political prisoners have been languishing in jails for years. The mistreatment of Kashmiri journalists and human rights defenders has further revealed India's willingness to go to any lengths to silence the dissenting voices. The massive crackdown, launched in the aftermath of the Pahalgam Attack, demonstrated that India still treats IIOJK as a colony. The recent hostilities between Pakistan and India have once again highlighted the urgent need for a peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions and wishes of the Kashmiri people, for the sake of a durable peace in South Asia.
