Sharjah launches proactive plan for 5,600 trips during Eid Al Adha holiday

Gulf Today04-06-2025
The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has put together a special plan for the upcoming Eid Al Adha holiday.
This initiative is aimed at making sure travellers can enjoy comfortable and safe transportation as they celebrate the Eid. With an increase in people wanting to travel during this festive time, the SRTA is stepping up its services to ensure everyone can move smoothly between different areas in Sharjah and beyond.
Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, the head of the SRTA, highlighted the importance of being well-prepared during holidays. He noted that during the Eid holiday in 2025, which runs from June 5 to 8, there will be a noticeable rise in public transport users. To handle this, the SRTA has made plans to operate 180 buses on various routes, aiming to complete around 5,600 trips over the four days. During peak times, buses will come every 5 minutes instead of the usual 45-minute wait. This means shorter waiting times and more convenience for everyone traveling.
The authority is committed to making travel easy for people visiting family or exploring popular destinations, both within the emirate and outside it. They are also increasing staff at busy bus stations, especially the Jubail Bus Station, which will be open from early morning until late at night to accommodate the larger number of passengers expected during this busy holiday.
The Authority has improved bus services in Sharjah City for the Eid holiday, making travel easier for everyone. They are running a total of 1,144 bus trips each day across 12 different routes, using 104 buses that connect to 543 stops around the city.
During the Eid Al Adha holiday, there will be a special boat service operating between Sharjah and Dubai. Abdul Aziz Al Jarwan, who is in charge of transport at the local authority, announced that there will be four daily trips. These boats will leave from the Aquarium Station in Sharjah and arrive at Al Ghubaiba Station in Dubai, working together with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority.
Al Jarwan shared that the Authority is working closely with the Omani transport company, Mwasalat, to run international route 203. This route connects Sharjah with Muscat, the capital of Oman, and offers two flights each day. This service is expected to encourage tourism between the two countries, especially during the Eid holidays. Passengers can board at Jubail station and travel to Al Athaiba station, making stops along the way. Tickets can be purchased online through Mwasalat Oman's website or at their service points.

Dubai Maritime Authority Launches New Licensing Service for Visitors Operating Pleasure Vessels

Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA) has introduced a new licensing service that allows international visitors to operate pleasure marine vessels in the emirate, in a move designed to boost tourism and enhance the recreational marine experience. The service applies to visitors holding licenses from member states of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), including GCC countries, Europe, the United States, and other internationally recognized authorities. It provides a streamlined electronic process for foreign license holders to obtain a local license issued by the DMA. The initiative coincides with the release of an updated manual regulating the licensing of marine crews in Dubai. Issued under Administrative Resolution No. (5) of 2024, the manual sets out conditions and requirements for operating and working on marine vessels, covering professional qualifications, technical standards, medical fitness, and application procedures. Sheikh Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, CEO of the DMA, said: 'We believe in providing a flexible maritime environment that meets the aspirations of international visitors and offers them the opportunity to enjoy an exceptional marine experience in Dubai's waters. The release of this manual reflects the Authority's commitment to strengthening maritime safety, ensuring the efficiency and qualification of marine crews, and unifying standards in line with local legislation and international best practices.' The Authority confirmed that it will recognize all valid licenses issued by IMO member states, subject to verification and compliance with required standards. Sheikh Saeed added that the initiative enhances Dubai's position as a global maritime hub, offering visitors safe and well-regulated opportunities for leisure, tourism, and sporting activities while contributing to the sustainable growth of the sector. New UAE public holidays law: Your guide to smarter planning for the long weekends in 2025

A significant shift in how we plan our calendars has arrived. At the start of this year, the UAE's new public holiday legislation – Cabinet Resolution No. (27) of 2024 – came into effect, introducing key rules that every resident needs to understand to maximise their time off. The new law empowers the government to strategically move holidays, paving the way for more extended breaks and smarter long-weekend planning. Here's what you need to know. Are UAE Public Holidays Transferable? The new law brings clarity and flexibility. Crucially, with the exception of the Eid holidays, the UAE Cabinet now holds the authority to transfer any public holiday to the beginning or end of the week to create a longer continuous break. However, there's a key stipulation: a public holiday cannot be transferred if it already coincides with another holiday or falls on a weekend. This strategic approach is designed to minimise mid-week days off and consolidate time off for a better work-life balance. A prime example is the upcoming UAE National Day. Falling on a Tuesday and Wednesday this year, the Cabinet could potentially issue a resolution to move the holiday to the preceding Monday (December 1st), creating a spectacular five-day break from Friday, November 28th to Wednesday, December 3rd. Official confirmation, however, will come closer to the date. UAE Public Holidays 2025: How to plan your long weekends and extended breaks? The long weekends still to come in 2025 With the first half of the year behind us, UAE residents have two more public holidays to look forward to, both offering strong potential for extended time off. Prophet Muhammad's Birthday (PBUH) Predicted Date: Friday, September 5, 2025 What to expect: This holiday is currently predicted to fall directly on a Friday. If confirmed, this would automatically grant residents a three-day weekend (Friday to Sunday). As it's not an Eid holiday, the date is subject to official moon sighting confirmation. UAE National Day Confirmed Dates: Tuesday, December 2 & Wednesday, December 3, 2025 What to expect: This mid-week break is the one to watch. Under the new law, the government could choose to move these days off to the preceding Monday (Dec 1st) to create a five-day long weekend. Alternatively, it will remain a two-day break splitting the workweek. The decision will be announced officially later in the year. Armed with this knowledge, residents can now look ahead with optimism, ready to leverage the new law's flexibility for a well-deserved break. Keep your calendars open and watch for official announcements. – For more on luxury lifestyle, news, fashion and beauty follow Emirates Woman on Facebook and Instagram Images: Supplied & Feature Image: Pinterest
