Folk-rock frontman Marcus Mumford doesn't look like this anymore
The British-American folk-rocker, 38, who confirmed in a recent interview that he's lost '70 pounds' (31kg) over the past few years, cut a trim figure in a recent Instagram post by country music star Lainey Wilson, who shared a photo of Mumford backstage at a gig in New Orleans.
Mumford was coy about his weight loss during an interview with comedian Caleb Pressley in March, explaining simply: 'I had to stop eating ice cream.'
But he said of his heavier days, 'I was a great time.'
Mumford's weight loss journey started several years ago – back in 2022, he said that focusing on his fitness had given him a renewed focus in life.
'I've quite enjoyed the process,' he revealed on Radio X. It's given me some purpose outside of family and music, which has been good and something to sort of think about. And [it's] just slightly changed my reward system and it feels good.'
Mumford said that nowadays, 'the reward system is more centred around surfing than ice cream. The balance has got a bit better.'
Mumford has three children with his wife, British actress Carey Mulligan, who he wed in 2012. The couple were in fact childhood pen pals who'd met at camp, then later reconnected as adults and started dating.
'We became pen pals after and that's how we kept in touch, we didn't have phones,' Mulligan revealed on Good Morning Britain last year.
'We used to fax a bit when fax machines were cool. We need to get kids doing the pen pal thing again. It's a good thing.'
Back in 2023, Mulligan revealed that her husband – who she eventually reconnected with via Facebook – 'wasn't boyfriend material' when they first met.
'I wrote in my diary that he was the nicest, the kindest person I'd ever met, and I gave him 9 ½ out of 10,' she said on the SmartLess podcast.
'I also wrote that he definitely wasn't boyfriend material. Not that I'd ever had a boyfriend at that time! But I decided that he was not it.'

Actress Gina Carano has settled her lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm after she was fired from Star Wars franchise spin-off The Mandalorian. Disney dropped Carano from the cast in 2021 over social media posts that implied being a Republican today was like being Jewish during the Holocaust. Carano also came under fire for posts on Twitter, now X, in which she derided mask-wearing during the COVID pandemic and echoed false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election. In a statement on Thursday local time, the Lucasfilm spokesperson said Carano "was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect". "With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future," the spokesperson added. No details on the settlement were provided. Carano, in a post on Musk's social media platform X, called the resolution "the best outcome for all parties involved". "I am humbled and grateful to God for His love and grace in this outcome," Carano said. She thanked Musk "for backing my case and asking for nothing in return" and said she was excited to "move onto the next chapter". "My desires remain in the arts, which is where I hope you will join me," she said, adding "Yes, I'm smiling". Reuters
