Diksha fights back to even par, lies 13th in London

Diksha Dagar survived a roller-coaster on the back nine to card an even par 73 in the second round of the PIF London Championship held at Centurion Club. Diksha, who has had a series of Top-10s this season, is now Tied-13th after being Tied-10th at the end of the first day. Of the four Indian women who teed up this week, three made the cut. The other two were Pranavi Urs and Aditi Ashok. Pranavi (75-71) was even par for two days at the Par-73 Centurion Club and was Tied-28th. Aditi Ashok (73-74) was T-37 at 1-over for two rounds. Rookie Avani Prashanth (76-76) missed the cut. The cut fell at +3 with 65 players making it through to the final day of action at Centurion Club. Diksha birdied the first and the sixth with a bogey in between on the third to turn in 1-under. On the back nine, she dropped a shot on the 10th and then gave away a double bogey on the Par-4 12th. The gritty golfer, who has set her eyes on her National title, the Women's Indian Open, birdied the 13th and the 16th to recover to even par 73. In the Individual competition, Germany's Laura Funfstuck fired a round of 70 (-3) on day two to hold a three-shot lead heading into the final day. The German started with a birdie at the first before rolling in three birdies in four holes on the sixth, eighth and ninth. A dropped shot on 15 was followed by an excellent par-save on 16 before another dropped shot on 17, but she finished in style with a birdie at the last to reach nine-under-par. Four players are in a share of second place with Spain's Carlota Ciganda, Belgium's Manon De Roey, France's Perrine Delacour and South Africa's Casandra Alexander all on six-under-par. England's Cara Gainer and Switzerland's Chiara Tamburlini are in a tie for sixth place on five-under-par with five players one shot further back in T8. Team Du Toit secured a one-stroke victory winning with a total of 29-under-par at the PIF London Championship held at Centurion Club. Diksha in Team Nadaud finished seventh, and Avani Prashanth was in Team Briem, which was also tied seventh. Aditi led the team, which had Pranavi, and they were 21st. The quartet of Danielle Du Toit, Sarah Kemp, Marta Sanz Barrio, and Megan Dennis began the day in a share of 11th place on 13-under-par. They began the day on the 10th tee, and it didn't take long for some putts to drop as they made the turn in 10-under for the day, thanks to eagles from Du Toit and Sanz Barrio. On their back nine, it was a steadier pace, but they remained in contention, and Du Toit and Dennis rolled in putts at the last to climb to the top of the leaderboard and seal victory. It was a remarkable turnaround for South Africa's Du Toit, who had teed it up on the LET Access Series earlier this week and then withdrew to fly to London to be first reserve. Following Charley Hull's withdrawal due to injury, Du Toit was drafted into the competition and ended up captaining the quartet to victory.

Nihal stuns top-seed Arjun in a morale-boosting win

Nihal Sarin shrugged off a poor start to pull off an upset win over the top-seed Arjun Erigaisi in the fourth round of the Masters section in the Quantbox Chennai Grandmasters chess tournament 2025 here on Sunday. Rapidly-rising German Vincent Keymer drew with the seasoned Dutchman Anish Giri to take his tally to 3.5 points and increased the lead over the rest of the field to a full point. Arjun (Elo 2776), coming off a victory over American Ray Robson in the previous round, found compatriot Nihal (2692) a tough nut to crack and went down in 70 moves. Nihal, who suffered a loss at the hands of Vidit Gujrathi in the third round, bounced back strongly to tame Arjun in a match that lasted over four hours. It was a morale-boosting win for Nihal, who lost two of his first three games. 'A lot of ups and downs today. Arjun defended like an absolute machine. I did get quite lucky in the end. It was quite hard for me after yesterday's game. I just tried my best to somehow find the motivation to keep playing,' Nihal after his first win in the tournament. In the only other decisive result in the Masters event, Karthikeyan Murali got the better of Dutch player Jorden van Foreest in a 46-move match. The Chennai GM, who gained an entry into the Masters section after the pullout of Vladmir Fedoseev, raised his game after a quiet start to overpower his opponent. Indian GMs Vidit and V. Pranav split the point after a 86-move game. The all-American matchup between Ray Robson and Awonder Liang ended in a draw after just 26 moves. Chennai Grandmasters Day 4: Erigaisi Passes Up Chance To Capitalise On Keymer Draw

Last Updated: Nihal Sarin stunned Arjun Erigaisi to pick up his first win of the day as Vincent Keymer held on to his lead despite being held to a draw by Anish Giri. Arjun Erigaisi failed to take advantage of Vincen Keymer's draw against Anish Giri as the Indian went down to compatriot Nihal Sarin, who picked up his first win of the Chess Grandmasters 2025 on Day 4 of the event on Sunday. Erigaisi, who began the day half a point behind the German leader, had the chance to go on level with Keymer in the Masters category; however, Sarin rained on Erigaisi's party as the youngster pulled off the biggest surprise of the event yet as he handed Erigaisi his first defeat of the series. As a result, Keymer still stands alone on top of the roster with three and a half points to his name after the conclusion of four games in the nine-match round robin event, while Arjun stands at two and a half. Robson took his tally to two points, as did Giri, Awonder and Gujrathi. Karthikeyan's win took him on level with points while Pranav took his tally to a point and a half, mimicking Sarin's count. The all-American clash between Liang Awoder and Ray Robson finished up with the overseas players splitting the points two ways, as did the all-Indian pairing of Pranav V and Vidit Gujrathi. Karthikeyan Murali also registered a win over Dutchman Jorden Van Foreest to take his tally to two points in twice as many fixtures. Abhimanyu Purnik's winning run in the Challengers section continued as he got the beating of Vaishali, as Harika Dronavalli's disappointing run continued as she slumped to her third defeat in four games, as Leon Luke Mendoca outwitted the seasoned campaigner. Iniyan Pa beat Aryan Chopra, while Diptayan Ghosh pulled out all the stops to edge out Harshavardhan GB. The only challenger game that ended in a draw was the fixture between Adhiban B and Pranesh M, as the duo shared the spoils.
