Anwar: Malaysia will continue efforts to find peace, security for southern Thailand
The prime minister said he had contacted the Thai government, which had informed him that Bangkok was ready to continue efforts to put an end to the tensions and violence between security forces and separatists.
"I believe that with the wisdom of Thailand's leadership, we will continue to strive and increase our efforts to find peace and security.
"This will ensure that the area can be developed and Islamic studies can be continued and Bahasa Melayu can be upheld," he said.
Anwar was speaking to reporters after attending a gathering at the YIK pondok school here.
Present were Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
Meanwhile, Anwar said peace negotiations carried out by Malaysia in Myanmar to reduce tensions there had significantly reduced attacks on Muslims, especially the Rohingya.

The Governor also urged the public, particularly social media users, not to engage in speculation, spread unfounded accusations, or promote conspiracy theories related to this case. "Such actions not only risk jeopardising the integrity of the investigation but may also inflict further emotional distress on Zara's family. "The public must allow the due process of law to take its course and stand in solidarity with the family as they seek answers and closure," he said in extending his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the grieving family during this difficult time. The state will hold prayers for the late Zara on Thursday at the Kota Kinabalu City Mosque in conjunction with mosques and surau throughout Sabah. The statement said Istana Seri Kinabalu encourages all Muslims to join in this event and those of the non-Muslim faith to pray for Zara in their respective ways. "The safety and well-being of our children must always remain our highest priority. May God grant us the courage to protect every other child so that no more innocent lives are lost unnecessarily," Musa said.

Thai soldiers injured in landmine blast near the Cambodia border, confirms govt
BANGKOK (Bloomberg): Thailand's army said three soldiers were injured in a landmine blast near its disputed border with Cambodia, threatening a fragile ceasefire agreement between the two neighbors. One soldier suffered a severe leg injury when he stepped on a landmine while patrolling the border in Si Sa Ket province on Saturday morning, the Royal Thai Army said in a statement. Two other soldiers sustained minor injuries, it said. The landmine blast pointed to covert use of weapons by the Cambodian troops, Thai army spokesman Winthai Suvaree said in a statement, adding the incident poses a serious obstacle to the ceasefire and peaceful resolution of the border conflict. The Thai government said it will be lodging a protest against Cambodia for breach of the Ottawa Convention banning use of anti-personnel mines. Thai and Cambodian forces fought for five days in late July, using fighter jets, missiles, and heavy artillery, before Malaysia brokered a ceasefire backed by the US and China. The clashes killed over 40 people, injured many others, and displaced hundreds of thousands from border areas in both countries. This was preceded by months of simmering border tensions, during which at least two Thai soldiers were maimed by landmines. Last week, senior security officials from Cambodia and Thailand agreed on measures to enforce the truce and ease tensions. They also accepted neutral monitoring of the ceasefire by defense attaché teams from Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states. Thai-Cambodia tensions trace back to the colonial-era treaties that defined their boundaries and the resulting maps that laid them out differently. The sovereignty of several areas along their roughly 800-kilometer (500-mile) disputed border remains points of contention, and various efforts to demarcate the boundary have yet to yield results.
