MAIK Provides Additional Allocation Of RM2 Million To YIK This Year

KOTA BHARU, April 30 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) has channelled an additional RM2 million in financial assistance to the Kelantan Islamic Foundation (YIK) this year to support the state's Islamic education agenda. The Tengku Temenggong of Kelantan, Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz, who is MAIK president, said the additional allocation was provided in response to financial constraints faced by YIK, amid economic uncertainty and rising inflation affecting its ability to deliver quality services to students. He said MAIK had allocated RM2.5 million to YIK, covering, among other things, teachers' emoluments and related activities. 'MAIK has agreed to increase the financial allocation to YIK by another RM2 million, bringing the total assistance to RM4.5 million for this year,' he said at an event with YIK Maahad Tahfiz students here today. He said the additional financial assistance was to cover food and beverage expenses at Maahad Tahfiz YIK and Maahad Sains Tok Guru. A total of RM29 million in aid allocations have been channelled to YIK since 2014, he said, adding that MAIK also allocated funds for building repairs and the purchase of furniture for schools and hostels, with over RM18 million spent for the purpose since 2016. At the event, MAIK received contribution in the form of 'zakat wakalah' from Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad, to be channelled to eligible and needy YIK students. In another development, Tengku Mohamad Rizam said MAIK would channel appropriate assistance to victims involved in the fire in Kampung Kijang two days ago. A total of 31 victims from eight families were made homeless after eight houses were destroyed in the fire.

Kelantan Govt Orders Yik Schools To Tighten Dorm Rules To Curb Misconduct

KOTA BHARU, April 24 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan government has directed all schools under the Yayasan Islam Kelantan (YIK) to strengthen and revise their dormitory regulations to prevent disciplinary misconduct that could lead to student injuries. State Education, Higher Learning, Green Technology, Digital and Innovation Committee chairman Datuk Wan Roslan Wan Hamat said the move is to ensure that incidents such as playing with firecrackers in school areas, particularly in dormitories, which could lead to injuries, do not recur. "Dormitory rules already exist, but we need to strengthen and tighten them further. Schools must also carry out more frequent spot checks, especially during festive seasons. "The recent case at a religious school in Jeli was an isolated one, out of 30,000 students, only one committed such an offence. However, it still warrants attention, as it resulted in permanent disability for the student involved," he told a press conference after the announcement of the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination results for YIK schools at the YIK Office in Tunjong here today. On March 24, a student at a religious school in Jeli lost part of his left finger, resulting in permanent disability, while two of his friends sustained injuries after allegedly playing with modified firecrackers. Meanwhile, Wan Roslan said 192 candidates under YIK obtained between 9As and 12As in the 2024 SPM, with 80 of them achieving straight As in all subjects. "In terms of percentage, the full pass rate for the 2024 SPM was 97.50 per cent compared to 96.65 per cent in 2023, showing an increase of 0.86 per cent. Based on a detailed analysis, 42 schools recorded a 100 per cent pass rate. "According to the School Average Grade (GPS), the top-performing schools were Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Darul Saadah, Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Wal Qiraat, and Maahad Sains Tok Guru," he said. -- BERNAMA

Wearing Jalur Gemilang badge effective in enhancing spirit of love for country

KUALA LUMPUR: Students wearing the Jalur Gemilang badge on their uniform will be an effective way to instil a patriotic spirit and cultivate a love for the country from their school days. Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said this would be a solid foundation in educating loyal, caring, and proud citizens towards a national identity. 'I feel very proud to see these children wearing the Jalur Gemilang badge with enthusiasm and confidence, We want to raise a generation that always loves, cares, and wants to fight for the country. 'This country belongs to all of us The spirit of togetherness is what needs to be continuously nurtured for a brighter future for Negeri Sembilan and Malaysia,' he told reporters at the Aidilfitri Celebrations, organised by the Seremban City Council (MBS) today. Aminuddin said that by emphasising the symbol or badge of the Jalur Gemilang, the spirit of camaraderie among students can be strengthened, carrying through to their adulthood. Meanwhile, in Kelantan, schools that are not under the purview of the Ministry of Education (MOE), including those under the Kelantan Islamic Foundation (YIK), are encouraged to implement the wearing of the Jalur Gemilang badge among their students. State Education Department (JPN) deputy director (School Management Sector) Mat Lazim Mohammad said the department is open to the participation of YIK schools or any other educational institutions interested in implementing this initiative. 'However, its implementation must adhere to the standards or guidelines set in the MOE Circular Letter,' he told reporters at the Symbolic Ceremony of the Jalur Gemilang Badge Wearing for Educational Institutions under the MOE at the Kelantan level in Kota Bharu today. Commenting further, Mat Lazim said that among the procedures for wearing the badge that must be followed are wearing it on the right side of the uniform; aligned with the name tag; wearing it in a neat, clean, and undamaged condition; and it should not be used on inappropriate clothing or arbitrarily. He also said that any modifications to the badge are not allowed, including changes in position, size, shape or colour. Meanwhile, 313,570 secondary and primary school students across Kelantan wore the Jalur Gemilang badge simultaneously this morning, as a symbol of unity and love for the country. Previously, the MOE announced that the wearing of the Jalur Gemilang badge on student uniforms would be implemented in stages across all educational institutions under the ministry's purview, starting today.
