Irish EuroMillions syndicate left stunned after €255,000 win

A Dublin EuroMillions trio were left stunned when their €5,000 raffle prize skyrocketed to a dazzling €255,000 as part of a special promotion this month.
The first winners of this prize purchased their winning ticket for Friday, May 2 EuroMillions draw from SuperValu Killester, Howth Road, Dublin 3.
This series of special EuroMillions Ireland-Only Raffles guarantees players a top up in the prize fund for all nine draws, every Tuesday and Friday, over the month.
Typically, every EuroMillions draw produces ten winners of the €5,000 Ireland-Only Raffle prize, but this month, in addition to the normal Raffle prize, one winner in each draw will win a dazzling €250,000 on top of the usual €5,000 Raffle prize.
'I checked the ticket initially thinking we won €5,000 since the raffle codes matched. I picked up the phone and called the two boys to tell them the news, and we were all pretty happy with that' the ticketholder recalled.
'But then, I went back and scanned the ticket online and saw 'You've won €250,000'. I thought surely that's not right? So, I re-scanned it once more and it was still there! I had to call them back straight away. We were over the moon!'
One member chimed in, 'I thought he was phoning me back to say it was all a joke!'
With a few restless nights, and one sleeping not-so-soundly with the winning ticket hidden under their mattress, the trio celebrated their win in the Winners' Room.
When asked how they're planning to enjoy their newfound riches, one added, 'You'd swear my car knows that I won a sum of money because it's just starting to give up on me, so I suppose a new car is on the list' he laughed.
'But seriously, this win means so much to us!'
'I'm really looking forward to being able to look after my family – we're a large family between children and grandchildren, so it's nice to be able to do that' one member added.
With six incredible prizes of €250,000 still up for grabs, anticipation is growing. Previous winners from Dublin, Meath and Limerick, the excitement builds ahead of tonight's draw as we eagerly await to see where the next winner will emerge. Will it be you?
Players are reminded that tickets for tonight's draw can be purchased in-store, through the National Lottery app or here ahead of the 7.30pm cut off.
Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on all National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage, and the Irish language. In total, more than €6.5 billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 37 years ago. In 2023 alone, €227.9 million was raised for local Good Causes in communities across Ireland.

Greta Thunberg sets sail on Gaza aid ship wearing League of Ireland jersey

Climate activist Greta Thunberg was spotted wearing a Bohemians jersey as she set sail on board the Madleen, as part of an effort to bring aid to Gaza. Thunberg appeared on Instagram wearing the club's third jersey, sponsored by Fontaines DC, an Irish band that has been involved in fundraising efforts to try to bring relief to the besieged territory. Bohs have played their part in raising awareness of the plight of Palestinians. Last year the club's senior women's team welcomed the Palestine women's international side to Dalymount Park for a friendly. And the club's Chief Operating Officer Daniel Lambert is manager of Kneecap, a band that has long been vocal in its support of Palestine. Thunberg is one of 12 people hoping to bring aid to Gaza. They set sail from Sicily on Sunday with the aim of bringing aid and awareness in the wake of the ongoing humanitarian crisis there. Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham is another member of the Madleen crew.
