Hamas Surprised of U.S. Envoy's Remarks, Reaffirms Commitment to Ceasefire Deal

DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement expressed surprise late Thursday over remarks made by U.S. envoy Steve Weitecov, describing them as negative and misrepresentative of the group's stance.
Hamas reaffirmed its commitment to continuing negotiations and reaching a permanent ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
The movement said in an official statement that its latest response to the mediators' proposal came after extensive consultations with Palestinian factions, friendly nations, and mediators.
Moreover, Hamas emphasized its positive engagement with all feedback received, calling it a reflection of its 'sincere commitment to supporting international mediation efforts and constructively engaging with all proposed initiatives.'
It added that it was surprised by Weitecov's critical comments, especially given that the mediators themselves had welcomed the group's response and described it as constructive and encouraging toward a comprehensive deal.
On Thursday, U.S. envoy Steve Weitecov stated that the United States had decided to pull its negotiating team from Doha for consultations, citing Hamas's latest response as a sign of 'lack of genuine intent to reach an agreement.'
Weitecov claimed that 'Hamas is not showing goodwill despite the intense mediation efforts,' noting that Washington is exploring alternative options to secure the release of hostages and restore stability in Gaza.
However, Palestinian-American businessman Bishara Bahbah disagreed with Weitecov's assessment, calling Hamas's response 'realistic and sincere.' In a post on Facebook, Bahbah wrote: 'Hamas submitted its response this morning to the Israeli proposal on troop deployment and prisoner exchange. It was a genuine and positive reply. Now Israel must engage in serious and swift negotiations to reach a ceasefire. The people of Gaza have had enough of killing, destruction, and hunger.'
Meanwhile, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that, in light of Hamas's response, the Israeli negotiation team was recalled from Doha for further consultations in Tel Aviv. Israel's public broadcaster cited an unnamed source saying 'critical decisions must now be made,' and that the move had been coordinated with all relevant parties.
On the ground, the Israeli occupation forces continue genocide and famine atrocities against people of Gaza for the 658th consecutive day, which has resulted in ongoing massacres targeting civilians, particularly women and children, and has deepened the humanitarian catastrophe amid a suffocating blockade on the war-torn enclave.

UN: Over 1,500 Gaza Civilians Killed at Aid Points and Along Food Routes

DaysofPal – The United Nations warned Monday that more than 1,500 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since May while attempting to obtain food, a staggering toll linked to what it described as Israel's militarization of aid routes and distribution areas in the besieged enclave. UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said civilians in Gaza are being shot at and killed while trying to reach desperately needed food and assistance. 'Palestinians trying to obtain food are being killed,' he stated, noting that many of these deaths occurred along aid routes coordinated by the United Nations and its partners. Haq emphasized that the humanitarian situation remains catastrophic, as UN agencies and aid groups have been unable to meet the population's basic shelter needs. No materials for shelter construction have been permitted into Gaza since March, leaving tens of thousands without protection amid bombardment and displacement. 'Some food supplies were allowed in last week,' Haq acknowledged, 'but they did not meet Gaza's needs, and hunger, especially among children, has reached dire levels.' The UN reiterated its call for an immediate ceasefire and demanded unrestricted humanitarian and commercial access to the Gaza Strip. Gaza's Ministry of Health confirmed Saturday that 1,422 people have been killed and over 10,000 wounded by Israeli fire at aid distribution points since May 27. The ministry added that more than 150 others have died from hunger, malnutrition, or the effects of Israel's ongoing blockade and what it called a deliberate 'war of starvation.' Despite mounting global pressure, aid remains critically bottlenecked. Following Israel's destruction of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, trucks entering from Egypt are rerouted to Kerem Shalom, where they undergo lengthy Israeli inspections. Most are held up for days or denied entry altogether. On July 26, Israel's state broadcaster revealed that the Israeli occupation forces had destroyed food, water, and medical supplies from over 1,000 aid trucks that were left to rot at Kerem Shalom after being barred from reaching Gaza. According to Gaza's government media office, since July 27 Israel has allowed only 674 aid trucks to enter the Strip, just 14% of the minimum daily requirement of 600 trucks needed to sustain the population. Red Cross to Netanyahu: We Can't Provide Food to Captives Unless Ceasefire Reached

DayofPal– The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) responded to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's request to provide food and medical care to Israeli captives held in Gaza, saying they can't do that unless a ceasefire is urgently reached to facilitate humanitarian access. Speaking on behalf of the ICRC, Communications Coordinator Jakob Kretzer stated that the organization has been ready since the beginning of the crisis to visit the captives and provide assistance. However, he said ongoing security risks and access restrictions, including refusals by the Israeli occupation forces have prevented any progress. 'The ICRC urgently requires a cessation of attacks to safely deliver aid to all hostages,' Kretzer said. 'We have repeatedly asked all involved parties to allow us access to those being held, but the locations of many of the hostages remain unknown, placing their lives in grave danger.' Netanyahu's call to the Red Cross comes amid growing domestic pressure and outrage after videos emerged showing two Israeli captives in visibly frail condition, fueling fears over the welfare of dozens of captives believed to be held in Gaza. In a statement released on Sunday, Al-Qassam said it is 'prepared to respond positively' to any Red Cross request regarding aid for Israeli prisoners of war. Still, it tied this readiness to a necessary condition: Israel must stop 'starving Gaza' and cease military operations that hinder aid delivery. 'We do not deliberately starve the prisoners,' the group said. 'They eat what our fighters and our people eat. They will not receive special treatment while our own people are dying of hunger under siege.' Despite the Red Cross's willingness to act, Kretzer reiterated that without cooperation from all sides and guarantees of safety, humanitarian missions cannot be carried out. The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with both civilians and captives facing increasing hardship as the war drags on. The ICRC has called for immediate steps to ensure protection for all people affected, in line with international humanitarian law. Shortlink for this post:

Hamas Official: Netanyahu's Blockade Starving Both Captives and Civilians

DaysofPal- Senior Hamas official Ezzat al-Resheq has blamed the Israeli government for the growing hunger among Israeli captives held in Gaza, saying that they are suffering the consequences of the same siege imposed on the Palestinian people. 'We regret that Israeli captives are suffering from hunger, but Netanyahu and his Nazi government bear full responsibility for this,' Resheq wrote on his Telegram channel on Sunday. 'Netanyahu and his government have waged a war of starvation and thirst against our people, and now even their own captives are suffering the consequences,' he added. The senior official emphasized that the Palestinian resistance treats captives in line with moral and religious values, sharing with them whatever limited resources are available. 'Our resistance fighters treat captives by the teachings of their religion and their human values, sharing with them the food and drink available, as they all endure the same conditions alongside the rest of our people,' Resheq said. He pointed to previous prisoner exchanges to underscore the resistance's track record. 'The entire world witnessed during previous prisoner exchanges how the released captives appeared, healthy both physically and mentally,' he said. 'Today, however, they endure hunger, emaciation, and weight loss, just as their captors suffer. They all share the same harsh conditions alongside our besieged people in the Gaza Strip,' Resheq added. He stressed that it is Israel's siege that has caused this outcome. 'Netanyahu's unjust siege against our Palestinian people has also affected Israeli captives, leaving them to endure the same cruel deprivation of food,' he said. In recent days, Palestinian resistance groups have released videos of Israeli captives Evitar David and Rom Barslavsky, showing both men visibly weakened and suffering from severe weight loss as a result of Israel's continued starvation campaign in Gaza. The resistance has stated its willingness to allow the International Committee of the Red Cross to deliver food and medicine to the Israeli captives, but only if Israel permanently opens humanitarian corridors and suspends airstrikes during the handover. Since launching its genocide in Gaza on October 7, 2023, Israel has imposed a comprehensive siege on the territory. On March 2, the blockade was tightened further with the closure of all crossings to humanitarian, medical, and relief aid, fueling a famine that has reached catastrophic levels.
