‘Don't Make West Bengal A North Korea': Kangana Urges Mamata Govt To Release Sharmishta Panoli

Kangana Ranuat has come out in strong support of law student Sharmishta Panoli who was arrested for her alleged communal remarks online.
Bharatiya Janata Party MP Kangana Ranaut on Sunday urged the West Bengal government to release 22-year-old law student Sharmishta Panoli, who was arrested by Kolkata Police for her alleged communal remarks online.
She said that the Mamata Banerjee government should not try to turn West Bengal into 'North Korea".
The influencer, who was quite vocal during Operation Sindoor against Pakistan, used strong language against some Bollywood actors for their silence during India's military operation against terrorists on the other side of the border. She deleted the video on May 15 and issued an unconditional apology, however, the Kolkata Police arrested her from Gurugram on Friday based on a complaint. She was sent to 14-day judicial custody.
'Harassing someone in the name of law and order is not good. When someone has apologised and deleted the post, but putting her in prison, torturing her, ending her career, and raising questions on her character is very wrong. This should not happen with any daughter," Kangana told news agency ANI.
'I urge the West Bengal government not to try to make the state into North Korea. Everyone has democratic rights. She has apologised for her indecent remarks. She had said everything in general and today's generation uses such language very normally- both in English and in Hindi. She should be released soon because she is a very young woman. She has her whole career and life ahead of her," the actor added.
Notably, North Korea is ruled by Kim Jong Un, a dictator.
Since her arrest, the influencer has garnered online support and backing from several leaders, including from the BJP and the Netherlands.
The BJP questioned Mamata over the 'quick action" by her police against Panoli ever after her apology and asked if the state police would arrest TMC leaders who made controversial remarks for the Hindu community.
'Sharmistha Panoli, just 22 years old, has been arrested and sent to 14-day judicial custody over a video she had already deleted and publicly apologised for on May 15. There have been no reports of communal unrest linked to her remarks, yet the Kolkata Police is acting with uncharacteristic haste. This is no longer about law and order — it is about selective enforcement," BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya posted on X.

Memorial park dedicated to Operation Sindoor to come up in Bhuj

Ahmedabad: A memorial park in the form of a high-density micro forest dedicated to , India's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack, will be built near Bhuj town in the Kutch district bordering Pakistan. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Spread across eight hectares, the park, to be called 'Sindoor Van' (Sindoor Forest), will feature different sections dedicated to the Indian armed forces — the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as the Border Security Force (BSF), said Sandeep Kumar, chief conservator of forests, Kutch Circle. Kutch district shares both land and maritime borders with Pakistan. The site earmarked for 'Sindoor Van' at Mirzapar village near Bhuj includes a portion of land where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public meeting on May 26 during his first visit to Gujarat after Operation Sindoor, he said. "We will grow nearly 80,000 plants, herbs, shrubs, and climbers of about 40-45 species in this park dedicated to Operation Sindoor to amalgamate the bravery and courage of our armed forces in this park," explained Kumar. The park will also serve as lungs for the town and spread a message of environmental conservation, he stated. "Operation Sindoor will be the central theme of this park. We will create different sections dedicated to the Army, Navy, Air Force, and BSF in the park and install murals of defence equipment and platforms such as INS Vikrant, drones, and the S-400 missile system to spread awareness," informed Kumar. During the event on May 26, Modi met some of the surviving women who helped in rebuilding the airfield in Bhuj, which was bombed during the 1971 war with Pakistan. "At that time, these brave women gave a sapling of the Sindoor (vermillion) tree to the PM. That gave us the idea of creating a micro forest on the Sindoor theme. We will also plant saplings of the Sindoor tree or Bixa orellana in this park," said Kumar.

UK MPs question Pakistan's aid misuse, back India's anti-terror stand in meet with multi-party delegation

LONDON: UK MP Bob Blackman on Tuesday raised critical concerns over Pakistan's use of international aid money during a meeting with the all-party delegation led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad in London, questioning whether funds meant for the country's development were being diverted to purchase Chinese weapons for terrorism against India. The BJP MP-led all-party delegation earlier held a meeting with the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG)-India in London, where UK MPs affirmed the country's solidarity with India in isolating Pakistan and enhancing security cooperation. Key figures like House of Lords MP Lord Karan Bilimoria and former member of the UK Parliament Shailesh Vara also expressed unanimous cross-party support in the UK for India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, alongside discussions on deepening India-UK ties in trade, security, and education, despite last-minute camera restrictions leading to phone recordings. Blackman expressed the UK's condolences and support for India's anti-terrorism actions, emphasising India's desire for peace and questioning Pakistan's misuse of aid for military purposes, advocating for its use in health initiatives like polio eradication. "We had a meeting and it's great to see the delegation from all parts of India... Everyone from the United Kingdom expresses their condolences and support for the people of India who've suffered this terrorist outrage... India wants peace and tranquillity between the two," Blackman stated.
