From Coolie to War 2 to Son of Sardaar 2: Highly anticipated releases in August to watch out for
Check out these movie releases in August. August 2025 is shaping up to be a blockbuster month for Indian cinema, packed with big-budget spectacles, star-studded dramas, and highly anticipated sequels. From explosive spy thrillers to soul-stirring romances, the lineup promises something for everyone—whether you're a fan of action, emotion, or pure masala entertainment. Directed by Shazia Iqbal, Dhadak 2 marks a return to the world of intense romance and societal tensions. Produced by Dharma Productions, Zee Studios, and Cloud 9 Pictures, the film stars Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi. It serves as a spiritual sequel to Dhadak and is an official Hindi remake of the acclaimed Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. The story follows Nilesh and Vidhi, two young lovers trying to navigate the harsh realities of caste and class divisions in modern India. Ajay Devgn is returning to the big screen with Son of Sardaar 2, a spiritual sequel to the 2012 comedy-action film. Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and co-starring Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, and Sanjay Mishra, the film brings back the humour with a twist: a man fakes being a war hero to help a couple win over their disapproving parents. With scenes shot across Edinburgh, London, and Chandigarh, this one's expected to blend international flair with Punjabi punchlines. The film also marks the posthumous appearance of actor Mukul Dev and releases on 1 August 2025. Netflix is also stepping into the patriotic spotlight with Saare Jahan Se Achcha, an action-thriller series created by Gaurav Shukla. Set against the backdrop of high-stakes espionage, the series features Pratik Gandhi, Sunny Hinduja, Kritika Kamra, and Tillotama Shome. It follows an Indian spy who must outwit his rival from across the border to sabotage a dangerous nuclear plan. Expect mind games, intelligence warfare, and edge-of-the-seat drama. Romance gets a fresh, quirky update with Param Sundari, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor. Directed by Tushar Jalota and produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films, the movie explores the clash of cultures and identities through a North-meets-South love story. Inspired by Mani Ratnam-style romantic dramas, the film blends heart, humour, and a dash of technology-driven conflict. Its first track, Pardesiya, is already out and has fans hooked ahead of its 29 August release. Then there's the mega-release Coolie, a Tamil-language action thriller helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and headlined by superstar Rajinikanth. With an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Shruti Haasan, the film is packed with high-octane action, gritty visuals, and larger-than-life storytelling. Produced by Sun Pictures, Coolie is scheduled to hit screens worldwide on 14 August 2025 in standard, D-Box, and 4DX formats. But perhaps the most anticipated release of the month is War 2, the sixth instalment in the YRF Spy Universe. Directed by Ayan Mukerji and starring Hrithik Roshan, N.T. Rama Rao Jr., and Kiara Advani, this high-stakes thriller promises jaw-dropping action and globe-trotting intrigue. With a staggering ₹400 crore budget, the film has been shot across Mumbai, Spain, Italy, and Abu Dhabi, and is set to release on 14 August—just in time for the Independence Day weekend.
