Shoot at Site: Vijay Antony and Raveena Tandon breathe life into this emotional courtroom drama
The high-spirited team of Lawyer was shooting in a court set when we dropped by recently. The film's ensemble cast, comprising Vijay Antony , Raveena Tandon , VTV Ganesh , and Anumol, among others, was in action as we tiptoed our way around the shooting spot to catch up with filmmaker Joshua Sethuraman . When we caught up with him, the Gentlewoman director let us in on some details about the shoot. 'We are currently shooting the exterior portions of the district court in a nonchronological order. We've created a real-life court setup for the same,' he said. I GOT EMOTIONAL WHEN JOSHUA NARRATED THIS FILM'S SCRIPT: VIJAY ANTONY Vijy Antony tells us that he is playing a lawyer in the film for which he is donning many hats (he is also its producer and music composer). Sharing further details, he says, 'I had watched Joshua's debut film, Gentlewoman , and asked whether he had any films in hand for me. He came to meet me the very next day, and the project was 'on'. I got emotional when Joshua narrated the film's script (which is an emotional commercial story) to me. I also liked his thought process. When a script is narrated to me, I quickly make the decision on whether I should be producing it. We then started the film's shoot within two-and-a-half months.' MY ROLE IN LAWYER IS POWERFUL, MANIPULATIVE AND CONNIVING: RAVEENA TANDON Raveena Tandon, who returns to Tamil cinema after 24 years with the film, tells us she's all excited for the 'well-written film' as well as her role in it. 'Although I have played a lawyer in Patna Shukla (2024), my character in Lawyer will be completely different. She is powerful, manipulative, and conniving. She knows what she is doing. For her, it's not about being righteous but about victory. She will take any step to win. When I heard the film's plot from director Joshua (Sethuraman), I completely loved it. This film will be about the fight for justice and humanitarian rights. I truly believe that justice needs to be served,' she says. WORKING WITH RAVEENA TANDON AND VIJAY ANTONY IS LIKE WORKING WITH NEW ACTORS: JOSHUA During the shoot break, Joshua tells us, ' Lawyer 's scale is huge. Working with Raveena Tandon and Vijay Antony is like working with new actors who've put their trust entirely in me. They don't even look at the monitor. Raveena ma'am tries to get the scene paper in advance to be able to memorise the dialogues and concentrate on her lip sync.'

Raveena Tandon returns to Tamil cinema after 24 years with Vijay Antony's courtroom drama 'Lawyer'
Popular Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon is set to make a remarkable comeback to Tamil cinema after a 24-year break with the upcoming courtroom drama Lawyer, starring multi-faceted actor Vijay Antony. Lawyer marks Raveena's third Tamil film, following her roles in Arjun Sarja's Saadhu (1994) and Kamal Haasan's Aalavandhan (2001). The film is directed by Joshua Sethuraman, known for his debut Gentlewoman, and produced by Vijay Antony's home banner, Vijay Antony Film Corporation. It is scheduled to go on floors in June 2025, with further cast and crew announcements expected soon. Speaking to the Times of India, director Joshua Sethuraman shared how the collaboration with Raveena came about. 'After Gentlewoman came on OTT, many from Bollywood called me. Since I studied at FTII, I have friends who are working in Bollywood, and that's how I reached out to her. I told her that she'd get an idea of my work once she sees Gentlewoman, my debut film. After she saw it, I immediately narrated this film's story and she was also interested,' he said.

After she saw it, I immediately narrated this film's story and she was also interested'. For the unversed, Raveena Tandon has been part of both Tamil and Telugu cinema throughout her career. However, her last stint in Kollywood was in 2001 with the film Aalavandhan. The action thriller was directed by Suresh Krissna and starred Kamal Haasan, Manisha Koirala, Anu Hasan, Kitu Gidwani, Sarath Babu, and others. In recent years, Raveena has delivered notable performances in South cinema as well, most prominently in the hit Kannada film KGF: Chapter 2, co-starring Yash and Sanjay Dutt. Looking ahead, the talented actress has two more films lined up—Housefull 5 and Inn Galiyon Mein. It focuses on the struggles of a law school graduate, played by Vijay Antony, and issues of the working class.' The director claims that his film will show how a real courtroom functions. 'Usually, courtroom dramas deal with criminal cases, but this film deals with a civil case. It discusses a working-class issue taken up in a labour court. The courtrooms showcased in Indian movies are far removed from reality. Films like Visaaranai showcased how the police system functions, but I haven't seen many films showcasing the proper functioning of a court,' he says. Apart from playing the protagonist, Vijay Antony will also be bankrolling and composing music for the film. Reflecting on his experience helming a two-heroine subject as his debut project, he says, 'A lot of trade people asked us, 'Who will come for a two-heroine film when no one even comes for a hero's films.' But the film got 50 per cent profit even though many other films released along with it.'
