Mrs Brown's Boys makes return to BBC tonight as controversial show divides viewers
The garish opening theme titles of Mrs Brown's Boys (Friday, BBC1, 9.30pm) will either spark joy or set your teeth on edge - it's the return of the Marmite show that splits the nation. From the moment 'Mammy' (Brendan O'Carroll) appears like a Pantomime Dame in her floral dress and cardigan, millions of viewers fall about laughing.
The other half of the nation scrambles for the remote and switches off immediately. For every person who loves the crude innuendo, toilet humour and expletive-filled slapstick, there is another who would rather gouge their eyes out of their head than watch a single second.
As this four-part series arrives, you can expect more of the same. Agnes continues to meddle in the lives of her nearest and dearest, with plotlines including helping Winnie to pass her driving test and Agnes discovering a passion for erotic fiction.
Meanwhile Grandad has SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and won't move out of his chair, while Buster (Brendan's son Danny O'Carroll) tries to start a new dog walking business. The jokes are so well signposted that the studio audience is ready to cheer or boo at every line, with bloopers kept in for extra gag points.
There's also the usual monologue message at the end, with a wink to camera. In this episode, Agnes unwittingly becomes the subject of a new podcast, sending her daughter Cathy (Brendan's wife Jennifer Ann O'Carroll) into a tailspin. Agnes says of the podcast: 'Who in their right mind is going to listen to that? What a load of Sh***!'... an observation that some viewers of this sitcom may well relate to.
Mrs Brown's Boys is airing on BBC One tonight at 9.30pm

Destination X fans slam 'unforgivable' moment contestants missed obvious clue
Destination X viewers have been left baffled at how long it took the contestants to guess the Sound of Music clues during the episode. Episode four of Rob Brydon's new BBC reality show, which has been tipped as Race Across the World meets The Traitors saw our group of geographical voyagers shepherded from Munich into Austria. The goal of the game is for the players to figure out where on earth they are by picking up on the clues dropped through various games, and the look of the area around them. Ultimately, the person to guess the furthest location from where they truly are by the end of the episode is booted out of the coach. As they drove through the beautiful landscapes, they stopped off at a castle where they listened to music from artists linked to the final destination, like Mozart, alongside other hints to guide them towards the right location. Eventually, they ended up in the famed hills used in The Sound of Music when Julie Andrews sings 'Do Re Mi' – one of the most memorable sequences in cinematic history. Here they had to complete a task where each group had to answer questions based on what they had seen so far, while two people are played the iconic (if not slightly distorted) song in headphones. One contestant, London cab driver Daren Parr took a while to come to the conclusion many viewers had already come to, at one pointing calling the noises 'nonsense'. And he wasn't the only one to take quite a while to put two and two together about the musical, which is filmed in Salzburg and the location. 'It's been on every Christmas since I was a child in the 90's! Surely they've seen the Sound of Music,' MishyMoo wrote on X. 'Wow have these people not seen the sound of music.. shocking,' olslola said. 'Are they deliberately being thick? It's quite blatantly The Sound of Music lyrics,' j11_lee added. 'Bad enough doesn't know what horseshoes are, or tally marks.. Unforgivable never seen Sound of Music…,' Emma Litson agreed. 'What?! Are you seriously telling me that none of these contestants have seen The Sound of Music which is on every Christmas! Julie Andrews would be horrified!' Matthew Chapman echoed. The clues haven't always been so straightforward, however. In one episode, they had giant red balls which were ultimately meant to represent cherries which one user Matthew Rimmer called 'Masked Singer-level obscure clue'. More Trending Dr Tim Galsworthy agreed to the general sentiment, adding: 'The clues in Destination X are ridiculous. They're either like 'here's a sign saying Munich' or 'here's a man in an orange top and orange was the third favourite colour in Bavaria in 1977'.' Nevertheless, the show seems to be growing on the general public but whether it stands the test of time remains to be seen. As for where the remaining contestants will head to next time, you'll have to tune in to find out. Destination X airs at 9pm on BBC One on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Got a story? BBC Destination X fans 'work out' winner after spotting 'clue' in episode four
Destination X is currently airing on BBC One and fans are convinced they have worked out who the winner is after a player stormed through the latest episode. BBC One's Destination X returned on Thursday evening (August 7) for another thrilling episode, and fans are certain they've figured out who will be the victor of this new reality show. Presenter Rob Brydon is currently guiding a group of contestants through various European towns, cities, and countries with one goal in mind: they must determine their location using only clues from challenges in each episode. So far, the cast of the BBC reality show has already visited Paris, the romantic French capital, Matterhorn in Switzerland, and Munich in Germany aboard the blacked-out X-bus. The most recent episode saw the players guessing their way to Salzburg, Austria. In the coming weeks, contestants will be booted off the X-bus if they misplace their destination too far on the map when it's time to guess their exact location in the world. Interestingly, returning players can rejoin the gameshow at any point, as evidenced by the arrival of three contestants on Thursday, reports the Manchester Evening News. The last person standing at the end of the series will walk away with a whopping £100k, but viewers are convinced that London taxi driver Daren Parr will scoop the prize pot. During the fourth episode, the players were inundated with clues suggesting they had journeyed to Salzburg from their previous stop in Munich. They listened to Mozart and encountered numerous hints from the film The Sound of Music, which was shot in the area. During one gruelling challenge, Daren steered his four-person squad to victory and they were all awarded immunity from having to identify the location on the map. He also succeeded in persuading several contestants that they were in a different location, and it was newcomer Chloe-Anne who was eliminated after incorrectly guessing the destination was Vienna. Destination X viewers have been quick to tip Daren as the champion following his impressive performance with the clues. Flocking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one person wrote: "We all love Daren don't we. Killing a few myths on cabbies and Millwall supporters as well #DestinationX." A second gushed: "If Daren doesn't win this whole thing, we riot. #DestinationX." A third chimed in: "Daren doesn't want to make the same mistake twice. He's proper game playing now #destinationx." "Really hope Daren wins this or Claire," stated one fan while another added: "#destinationx Daren is definitely the star."
