Watch: Scottie Scheffler's son Bennett creates the sweetest moment at the British Open

Time of India4 days ago
While Scottie Scheffler won the British Open with absolute ease, it was his 1-year-old son who ended up stealing the show. Moments after clinching his first British Open title at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland on July 20, Scheffler was met with an unexpected, and utterly heart-melting, moment of fatherhood.

His toddler, Bennett, spotted him on the green and took off running toward his dad. He only managed a few wobbly steps before falling straight onto the grass, as captured in a clip NBC Sports shared on X.
'No!' an announcer cried as the crowd collectively gasped in sympathy. But Scheffler, grinning, gently set down the Claret Jug and waved for his son to try again.

Eventually, someone nearby helped Bennett back on his feet, and Scheffler walked over to scoop him up.
Father and son posed beside the famed trophy, the 1-year-old visibly unbothered by the global spotlight.
Another moment that captured hearts online was a now-viral photo of Scheffler hugging his wife, Meredith, while holding Bennett, who wore a hilariously unimpressed expression that fans joked said, 'We do this every Sunday.'- hilariously commenting on how often Scheller has win such tournaments.

And netizens can't get over the cuteness of this child.
One user interpreted Bennet's expression as, ''What did you expect? I knew he was gonna win!' Little man Scheffler has it down.'
Another wrote, 'All Bennet Scheffler knows in this brief time he's been in this world is winning. Kid hasn't seen an L in his life.' A third user said, 'Bennett Scheffler is literally growing up in front of our eyes during 18th green trophy ceremonies, with dozens of world class photographers snapping away.

That baby album is going to SLAP.'
After the win, Scheffler gave an interview to CBS Sports while holding his son, who had just had a diaper blowout before the final moments of the tournament.
'He's got poop all over his back so be prepared — sorry!' Meredith Scheffler said off-camera in the CBS clip.
'That'll happen,' Scheffler replied with a laugh, unbothered as ever.
'He had so much fun watching you!' Meredith told him as Bennett calmly sucked on his fingers.
The PGA star has often credited Meredith, his high school sweetheart and wife since 2020, as his 'biggest supporter' and 'best friend,' notably doing so after his win at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio, on June 1.

Social media users troll AIFF after rejecting Xavi Hernandez for India's head coach role: ‘Crowdfunding hi karwa lete'

Social media platforms erupted in disbelief and mockery after reports claimed that the All India Football Federation (AIFF) had turned down former World Cup winner Xavi Hernandez's application for the Indian national team's head coach role—citing lack of funds. From sarcastic fundraising suggestions to what-if scenarios envisioning India's football future under Xavi, the online backlash was swift and scathing. According to reports AIFF rejected Xavi's application due to lack of funds (REUTERS) The buzz began after a Times of India report revealed that Xavi had expressed interest in the position and was among several high-profile names who had formally applied. The list also reportedly included former India head coach Stephen Constantine, ex-Liverpool star Harry Kewell, and India's own Khalid Jamil. What caught the AIFF off guard was the unexpected arrival of Xavi's application—reportedly emailed personally by him. However, the form was incomplete, missing key details such as a contact number. Confirming the authenticity of the application, AIFF national team director Subrata Paul said, 'It's correct that Xavi's name was there. The application was emailed to the AIFF.' Despite the excitement such a name might usually generate, the federation allegedly did not pursue the opportunity further. 'Even if Xavi was genuinely interested in Indian football and could be convinced to take up the job, we would need a lot of money,' A member of AIFF's technical committee was quoted as saying. Xavi has previously spoken about his interest in Indian football, crediting the growing presence of Spanish coaches in the country. Though his coaching résumé already boasts titles like the 2022–23 La Liga crown and the 2023 Supercopa de España with Spanish football club Barcelona, AIFF reportedly felt that hiring him was financially unrealistic. The online reaction has been relentless. Fans questioned how the AIFF could turn away a name like Xavi, even joking that a crowdfunding campaign could've been launched to afford him. Some pointed to the missed opportunity for Indian football to take a global leap, while others used memes and satire to vent their frustration at what they saw as a typically short-sighted decision.

Jaden Smith's drug habit sparks fear among friends, Will Smith's son busted in Paris: ‘Completely let off the leash'

The incident has led many to fear that the young star might be heading down a troubling path. Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith, Willow Smith and Jaden Smith attend premiere together.(REUTERS) Jaden Smith sparks concern As per a report by RadarOnline, Jaden was recently busted in an apparent drug binge while partying with friends in Paris. Now, his closest ones are scared that he is way off the rails. The rapper got into the spotlight for his drug use recently after he was photographed exiting two party spots in Paris in a beanie and with a bong. "It's not a good look, especially as cannabis is illegal in France, where the legal possession amount and use is a criminal offense. Clearly, Jaden is heading in a dangerous direction. He was out at 3 a.m. in a foreign city partying his head off and then spending a lot less time at home. And with his parents living separately and their marital situation up in the air, he's probably avoiding them altogether,' a source told the outlet. At the moment, Will Smith is busy working on his music comeback, while mom Jada Pinkett Smith, 53, is focusing on new projects following the cancellation of her Red Table Talk by Facebook Watch in 2022. 'Jaden's a sweet kid and he means well, but his parents are not helping. He's misunderstood. He's been spoiled his whole life, so he's used to doing whatever he wants and making people laugh – often at the cost of looking ridiculous. Jaden's been completely let off the leash. He's making a lot of people very upset. Once so cool, he's making it look foolish,' added the source. In 2023, Jaden said his mom, Jada Pinkett Smith, introduced psychedelic drugs to him and the rest of the family. During the Psychedelic Science conference, the Karate Kid star said, 'I think it was my mom, actually, that was really the first one to make that step for the family.' More about Will Smith's family Will Smith became a father for the first time in 1992 when he welcomed his son Trey Smith with his then-wife Sheree Zampino. The couple eventually separated, and Will went on to marry Jada Pinkett Smith in 1997. Will and Jada had two children together, Jaden and Willow, in 1998 and 2000, respectively. Will has previously spoken about his parenting style, which is rooted in respect and treating his children as individuals. The family has allowed their children the freedom to express themselves and make their own choices, as seen in Jaden's decision to ask for emancipation at the age of 15.

Ponting questions India's bowling tactics, Vaughan says visitors need 'Virat mentality' to survive: 'They've been off'

Ricky Ponting did not held back as he criticised India's bowling plans against England on Day 2 of the 4th Test at Manchester, while Michael Vaughan said another bad day can spell doom for Shubman Gill and Co. read more Ricky Ponting and Michael Vaughan did not find many positives from India's performance on Day 2 of fourth Test vs England. Images: Reuters/PTI Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting ripped into Shubman Gill's plans as England openers put up a 166-run stand in no time against India on Day 2 of the fourth Test at Manchester on Thursday. Meanwhile, former England captain Michael Vaughan has said India will need the 'Virat mentality' to make a comeback in the Test match. After scoring a respectable 358 in the first innings, India were let down by their bowlers as England ended Day 2 on 225/2 from just 46 overs and trail India by only 133 runs. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett gave England a blistering start as India's strategy to make debutant Anshul Kamboj bowl from the start backfired. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Ponting slams 'tactically wrong' India Ponting did not mince his words as he criticised India's field placements and bowling sections after a chastening day for the pacers. 'They got scored off on both sides of the wicket, didn't they?' Ponting said on Sky Sports. 'I think they were tactically off as well. I don't think Kamboj should have taken the new ball. I didn't like that from the start.' Also read | Zak Crawley hits back at Shubman Gill's allegations, says he enjoyed the on-field spat Ponting pointed out how Gill got the basics wrong while bowling Jasprit Bumrah from the wrong end. 'They were tactically wrong there,' Ponting added. 'Even watching now, Bumrah is bowling from the wrong end. Most of the wickets have fallen from the Statham End, and he's done most of his work from the Anderson End. They were off execution-wise and tactically they've been off as well.' Vaughan says India need 'Virat mentality' to survive Vaughan in a separate conversation with Dinesh Karthik on Cricbuzz stated that the ongoing India-England Test series, in which the visitors are 2-1 down, will be decided on Day 3 in Manchester and India will need to have an aggressive 'Virat mentality' to bring themselves back in ascendancy otherwise the series as good as done for them despite the last Test still to come. Also read | Shastri tears into Indian bowling unit for 'rubbish' display 'The series will be decided on Day Three. If England have a great day, I think they're winning this Test match and that's the series done and dusted,' he said. 'India and Shubman have to arrive on Day Three with that Virat mentality. We have to win the day. If they win tomorrow, the game is alive. If they lose, the series is gone.' Karthik agreed with Vaughan as he said: 'Those are big words and I think it's a very fair observation as well. Because walking into day three, as they call it, the moving day, you would almost think the series hangs in the balance on that day. If India wants to stay alive, they need to have a good day with the ball.'
