"The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping" Adds Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman

Oscar and Emmy winner Kieran Culkin has joined the cast of 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' as magnanimous host Caesar Flickerman. Stanley Tucci played the role in the original quartet of films.
Culkin joins previously announced cast members Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Maya Hawke as Wiress, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee, Lili Taylor as Mags, Ben Wang as Wyatt, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, and Ralph Fiennes as President Snow.
Molly McCann will also appear as Louella, while Iona Bell will portray her Capitol-assigned lookalike, Lou Lou.
The new film, based on Suzanne Collins' novel of the same name, revisits the world of Panem nearly a quarter of a century before the events of those films, where Woody Harrelson's Haymitch Abernathy served as a mentor to Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson's Peeta Mellark.
In 'Sunrise on the Reaping,' Haymitch is the main character, as the action begins on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell, in which he enters the deadly arena.
'Kieran's scene-stealing presence and undeniable charm are perfect for Caesar Flickerman, the sickeningly watchable host of Panem's darkest spectacle. Stanley Tucci made Caesar unforgettable—and now Kieran will make the role entirely his own,' said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erin Westerman.
Culkin joins the franchise amid the hottest streak of his long career. Earlier this year, the actor collected the best supporting actor Oscar (as well as nearly every other precursor prize) for his performance opposite Jesse Eisenberg in 'A Real Pain.' He's halfway to EGOT status after winning the lead actor drama Emmy for the final season of HBO's 'Succession,' where he played Roman Roy.
Culkin currently appears on Broadway starring in the sold out run of 'Glengarry Glen Ross' with Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr.
The film adaptation of 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' will be released on November 20, 2026. Lawrence, who has helmed every installment of the franchise since 2012's 'Catching Fire,' will direct from a screenplay adaptation by Billy Ray. Color Force's Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will produce. Cameron MacConomy will executive produce.
The five films in the franchise so far have taken in over $3.3 billion at the box office.
'Sunrise on the Reaping' sold 1.5 million copies in its first week on sale in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
The 1.2 million copies sold in the U.S. are twice the first week sales of 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' and three times the first week sales of 'Mockingjay.'
'Kieran's magnetism, wit, and unpredictability make him a perfect fit for Caesar Flickerman,' Jacobson said. 'A host like Caesar transforms brutality into entertainment, and an actor as layered as Kieran makes sure we don't look away.'
Meredith Wieck and Scott O'Brien are overseeing the project for Lionsgate. Phil Strina negotiated the deal for the studio.

"Harry Potter" Star Tom Felton to Reprise Draco Malfoy on Broadway
Yara Sameh Tom Felton, best known for playing Draco Malfoy in the 'Harry Potter' film franchise, is reprising the role as an adult in Broadway's "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child." The Broadway show will begin where the 'Harry Potter' book and movie franchise ended, with Harry and Draco as fathers 19 years later who are sending their children to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for the first time. 'When Harry Potter's head-strong son Albus befriends the son of his fiercest rival, Draco Malfoy, it sparks an unbelievable new journey for them all – with the power to change the past and future forever,' a synopsis reads on the theater production's website. Felton announced his role in the Broadway production of on Instagram, in a joint post with the official Harry Potter and Harry Potter on Broadway Instagram pages. In a joint Instagram reel, captioned 'Guess who's back,' Felton donned the familiar black suit with a wand in the pocket, rings and a long blonde wig, before ominously saying, 'scared, Potter?'. 'The blonde hair came back on and I immediately started crying for some reason,' Felton told the 'Today' show. 'It's such a huge part of my childhood. It's like me going back to high school,'. The 37-year-old originally portrayed the protagonist Harry Potter's schoolboy rival when he was a child. He described his return to the 'Harry Potter' universe as a 'pinch me' moment, adding, 'I keep thinking I'm dreaming.' 'I let go of that character 16 years ago and now getting the chance to step back in his shoes as a father this time, in a new story – I get to meet Draco as an adult, which is very exciting,' he added. Felton is the first actor from the movie series to join the cast of the stage play, which opened in London in 2016 and on Broadway in 2018. The two-part play has won many accolades, including several Olivier and Tony Awards. The actor will join the Broadway cast in November for a 19-week engagement. Cillian Murphy's Role in "28 Years Later" Franchise Has Been Clarified
Yara Sameh Cillian Murphy is coming back to the '28 Days Later' franchise — but fans will have to wait patiently. Director Danny Boyle revealed in interviews with Business Insider and IGN that Murphy, who starred in the original '28 Days Later' in 2002, will not star in the upcoming '28 Years Later," but will appear in the ending of its 2026 sequel, 'The Bone Temple.' 'He is in the second one,' Boyle told IGN . 'I shouldn't give away too much. I'll get killed.' Boyle and writer Alex Garland conceived '28 Years Later' as the start of a new trilogy. The franchise revival, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes, was filmed back-to-back with its follow-up, '28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,' which is directed by Nia DaCosta. A trilogy-capper remains in development and could be greenlit if '28 Years Later' becomes a box office hit. Boyle hopes that incorporating Murphy, who is coming off of a best actor Oscar win for 'Oppenheimer,' could also help secure financing for the third film. 'All I can say is you have to wait for Cillian, but hopefully he will help us get the third film financed,' Boyle told Business Insider. To IGN, 'Although each story [in the trilogy] completes itself, there's a handover section to the next film as well. So it's very ambitious. We haven't got the money for the third one yet. It will depend how the first one does, I guess. But hopefully, if we do okay, they'll give us the go-ahead for the money and for the third one. Everybody's standing by for that, really. Including Cillian.' Boyle also shared with Business Insider that getting Murphy on board for the trilogy helped him get approval to film '28 Years Later' with iPhones: 'You promise them Cillian Murphy, that's quite a deflection of any technical concerns. They soon forget. We nakedly used that to get our own way. What better promise could you make?'. Boyle's original '28 Days Later' was one of the first blockbuster roles for Murphy. He led the thriller as Jim, a man who awakens in a hospital to discover the United Kingdom has collapsed amid an undead apocalypse. Fans have speculated that Murphy could return to the franchise, with some even believing that a zombie in the first trailer for '28 Years Later' was played by the actor. It's actually an art dealer and acting newcomer, Angus Neill. '28 Years Later' releases to theaters June 20 from Sony Pictures. Vanessa Kirby Is Expecting Her First Child, Reveals Her Baby Bump at a Fantastic Four Event
Yara Sameh Vanessa Kirby is pregnant with her first child. The actress revealed that she is pregnant and currently expecting her first baby while she attended "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" panel event at the CCXP Mexico, a pop culture convention being held in Mexico City over the weekend. Kirby — who played an expectant mother for her Oscar-nominated lead role in the 2020 film Pieces of a Woman — walked the red carpet in a shimmering blue form-fitting Schiaparelli dress and black sandals. As she posed for photographs, she cradled her baby bump. The "Crown" star was joined at the event by her Marvel castmates Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Kirby is currently involved with retired lacrosse player Paul Rabil. They went public with their relationship on Instagram in November 2023. At the time, Rabil, 39, posted a series of photos of the pair together, as he wrote in his caption, "From the very minute we first met in Des Moines, around the world and back, life is far better, more purposeful and more beautiful with you ❤️.' The couple was first linked in October 2022 after being spotted together in New York City. Back in April, Kirby posted a slew of romantic photos on Instagram of the pair vacationing in the West Indies.
