Canadian wildfire smoke will make the Philadelphia region hazy again on Wednesday. Here's the forecast.
Couple that with an easterly wind, and a mostly cloudy sky, and the temps should only top out in the upper 70s and low 80s. It's such a difference from what we experienced in July. In addition, the humidity levels will remain moderately low for this time of year, so at least that's a bonus.
Thursday brings brighter conditions as high pressure noses in from the northwest, and we'll start to warm up, with highs returning to the upper 80s by the weekend.
Other than a stray shower chance, mainly south of the city, we'll be on a fairly dry stretch to start August, with no significant weather maker in sight.
In fact, it's possible that we go a straight 11-12 days without measurable rain, making it one of the driest stretches of the year. Currently, that is 13 days in April. The NEXT Weather team will keep you informed of any changes.

Colorado residents "nervous" as wildfire comes close to town of Meeker on the Western Slope
A wildfire close to Meeker in western Colorado has doubled in size. The Lee Fire west of the historic town has now burned an estimated 45,000 acres and so far firefighters don't have any containment on it. Several small neighborhoods outside of the town limits have been evacuated as the fire made a serious run Wednesday along Highway 13. The town of Meeker itself is standing by on a "set" status. The American Red Cross has set up a shelter for evacuees at Moffat County High School in Craig. Fire managers said on Wednesday night they are confident they will be able to prevent the fire from reaching the Rio Blanco County seat. The weather conditions are making the firefight challenging. Dry conditions are leading the fire to still rage in the nighttime hours when most wildfires usually settle down to a degree. "I'm feeling a little bit nervous, so I'm not going to lie," Joshua Quinn, who lives in the Meeker area, said on Wednesday as he watched flames marching closer to the town and heavy smoke filling the air. Sue Sprod lives close to Meeker and watched the "flames come over the hogback." "We feel like we do have a good buffer zone but I did get a little nervous this afternoon watching," she said. Sprod attended a community meeting Wednesday evening at Meeker High School led by fire managers, local law enforcement and U.S. Forest Service officials. They braced the community for the likelihood of several more days of high winds and dry conditions. The fire managers reiterated at the meeting that the buffer between the Lee Fire and the town of Meeker is holding. While the town waits on standby for evacuation, some in Rio Blanco County have already been pushed from their homes, like Stanton Gould. "I've been wrestling all my life and it's like sitting at a wrestling match, not knowing who you're going to wrestle in the next round," he said. Stanton says he's hopeful his home is still standing at the end of this, but he still has what counts. "I'd be more broken if it was a person or something. Everything you can replace, all it takes is money," Stanton said. Another wildfire is also burning close to Meeker but it isn't currently posing a threat to the town. The Elk Fire is located southeast of the town. During the day on Wednesday Gov. Jared Polis expanded an emergency declaration that was issued for the Elk Fire to include the Lee Fire.

Thursday is shaping up to be brighter in the Philadelphia area as high pressure slides in from the northwest. With more sunshine breaking through, temperatures will begin a warming trend that carries us toward the upper 80s by the weekend. It's a return to more classic early August weather, but without the oppressive humidity — at least for now. Rain chances will be limited, with only a stray shower, mostly south of the city. Otherwise, we're in for a fairly quiet and dry stretch to kick off end of the first week of August. This weekend looks sunny and warm, with highs in the mid- to upper-80s. With no major storm systems in the forecast, it's a good time to enjoy the milder air while it lasts. Incredible 1,400km cloud could ruin the weekend for millions of Aussies
A massive cloud extending up to 1,400km across Australia will see residents of two states cop a significant drenching this weekend. On Thursday, an incredible weather map highlighted the breadth of the northwest cloudband, which extends over western Queensland, northern South Australia, and the southern parts of the Northern Territory. Meteorologists at Weatherzone have been tracking the cloud since it began above the Indian Ocean and predict it will combine with another system in the upper atmosphere on Friday. This will deliver heavy rain across parts of southern and eastern Queensland, as well as northern NSW. 'It will evolve into another system, becoming a trough,' meteorologist Yoska Hernandez told Yahoo News Australia. Northwest cloudbands of this size are not uncommon from mid-autumn through to early Spring. They form when tropical moisture from the Indian Ocean passes over Australia. As the mass moves southeast, rising over cooler air, a large cloud is produced. They tend to deliver significant rainfall when waters are warmer off Australia's northwest coast, and right now their temperature is above average.
