Jitan Ram Manjhi backs PM's move to send delegation exposing Pakistan's support for terrorism
Gaya (Bihar) [India], May 18 (ANI): As India steps up efforts to counter global narratives on terrorism, Union Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha leader Jitan Ram Manjhi on Sunday strongly endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to send multi-party parliamentary delegations to key partner nations.
Speaking to reporters in Gaya, Manjhi criticised certain opposition leaders for allegedly tarnishing India's image on foreign soil.
'There are many opposition parties in our country who only do the work of opposition. They defame the country's name even when they go abroad,' he said.
'In such a situation, the Prime Minister has thought of the right solution -- by sending MPs of all parties to tell other countries about Operation Sindoor. All countries should get clear information about what has been done in our country.'
Earlier in the day Janata Dal (United) leader Neeraj Kumar said that it is important for the international community to understand how Pakistan-sponsored terrorism is disturbing the life of citizens in India.
Kumar said the government's move to send multi-party delegations to key nations was a necessary step to convey India's position on terrorism and regional peace.
Speaking to ANI, JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar said, 'It is important to give this message to the world that India is a peace-loving country... It is important that the world knows how Pakistan-sponsored terrorism is disturbing the life of its neighbouring country.'
A total of seven groups of MPs have been delegated to go to more than 30 countries, led by a variety of leaders, including Congress' Shashi Tharoor, NCP-SCP's Supriya Sule, BJP's Ravi Shankar Prasad, DMK's Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and others.
Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Biju Janata Dal from the opposition's side have sent their MPs to be part of the delegation. NDA allies, including Janata Dal (United), and TDP are also part of the delegations.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, targeting terror bases in Pakistan in retaliation for the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.
The operation targeted terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, eliminating over 100 terrorists linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. (ANI)

Such interference from a union minister not only undermines the police action to restore peace but also sends dangerous signals that political patronage can shield anti-social elements from the due process of law. Telangana HC asks Centre to notify defence land zones by Dec
Hyderabad: The Telangana high court has directed the Union defence ministry to officially notify defence land zones in Hyderabad and Secunderabad by Dec 31, 2025, under the Works of Defence Act (WODA) of 1903. Justice T Vinod Kumar, who delivered the verdict, emphasised that public interest must prevail over private interests, especially in light of recent security incidents such as the Pahalgam attack. The judgment came while disposing of a batch of writ petitions filed by the Union of India, challenging the Telangana govt's 2016 amendment that removed the requirement for a no objection certificate (NOC) from defence authorities for construction near military zones. The court held that defence authorities do have powers to regulate construction near sensitive zones, but these powers must be exercised in line with WODA—by issuing formal notifications and adhering to due process. Until such notifications are issued, the court ordered that status quo be maintained on all construction near defence areas, including those with valid municipal permits. However, Justice Kumar adopted a stricter stance on unauthorised buildings—those constructed without any municipal approval—and directed GHMC and HMDA officials to initiate action under their respective laws. The court recognised that many builders had obtained permissions in good faith under the 2016 ministry of defence guidelines, which replaced the 2011 norms and reduced security zones from 100/500 metres to 10/100 metres, depending on the type of defence establishment. These guidelines classify establishments into part A (10-metre limit) and part B (100-metre limit). The judge affirmed that the 2016 norms, though issued as internal circulars, are the currently applicable standard, but emphasised that they do not have statutory force until notified under WODA. It also argued that it is not obligated to enforce central defence rules unless officially notified. Deputy solicitor general Gadi Praveen Kumar informed the court that a request for notification under section 3 of WODA had already been sent to the defence ministry, which is expected to act soon. The court also restrained builders from undertaking new construction in disputed areas until the ministry issues formal notifications, but protected post-2016 constructions with valid approvals from coercive action in the interim.

Three 800MW power plant units approved for Punjab
Chandigarh: Union power minister Manohar Lal Khattar approved the setting up of three additional 800 MW power generation units in the state, announced Punjab power minister Harbhajan Singh on Friday The demand was raised by Harbhajan Singh at the North Indian Power Ministers' Conference, which was chaired by Union power minister Khattar, with participation from ministers and officials from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Delhi. The Punjab govt demanded an increase in the existing power generation capacity of Ropar thermal plant, stating that while Punjab has its own coal mines, the Centre's condition of not transporting coal beyond 1,000 km is creating difficulties in expanding the capacity of these thermal plants. Accepting the demand, Khattar instructed officials to extend the coal transportation limit to more than 1,500km and approved the establishment of two additional 800 MW power generation plants in Ropar. Besides this, approval was also granted for setting up a new 800 MW unit in Punjab. With this approval, the path has been cleared for setting up 2,400 MW thermal plants in Punjab, said Harbhajan Singh. Regarding the Centre's target of 7,000 MW solar power generation in the state, the cabinet minister said that due to high land costs in Punjab, achieving targets in this direction faces challenges. He stressed that Punjab has always contributed significantly to securing the nation's food reserves; therefore, keeping the paddy season in mind, Punjab's demand should be fulfilled at the earliest so that farmers can receive timely power supply and irrigate their paddy crops. Currently, Punjab state is receiving 275 MW power from the central pool. Harbhajan Singh informed that all necessary approvals have been obtained for upgrading the capacity of two existing 100 MVA transformers at BBMB Jalandhar to 160 MVA, and the expenditure for this work is to be borne by the Punjab govt.
