Cops rule out loan shark involvement in Johor teacher's death
PETALING JAYA : Police have ruled out any criminal link to illegal moneylending syndicates in the death of a female teacher whose decomposed body was found in her home in Bandar Selesa Jaya, Skudai, Iskandar Puteri, on June 13.
According to Bernama, Iskandar Puteri police chief M Kumarasan said although Lo Kwan Fong, 39, had previously borrowed RM20,000 from a loan shark, the debt had been fully settled.
He said preliminary investigations also found no incidents of paint splashing or threats against the victim — tactics commonly used by loan sharks to pressure debtors into repaying their debts.
'The deceased had previously lodged a report, which was investigated under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951. However, after clearing all her debts, there were no further police reports.
'Neighbours also confirmed that no loan sharks had come to throw paint at her house,' he was quoted as saying.
Kumarasan said checks with the national registration department revealed that Lo was an only child and both her parents had died. To date, her remains have yet to be claimed by her next of kin.
'We will discuss this further with the hospital.
'After two weeks, the body will be released to Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) for them to appoint a private funeral service,' he said, adding that several parents of her students had expressed their willingness to assist in funeral arrangements.
Kumarasan added police were informed that Lo has an aunt in Singapore, but they do not have further information about her.
Lo was found dead in her home on June 13 after neighbours detected a foul smell and alerted the Nusa Bestari police station.
Investigations indicated she had likely died about a month before her body was discovered.
A post-mortem conducted by a forensic pathologist at HSA concluded that the cause of death was 'unascertained due to advanced decomposition'.

Faisal Halim heartbroken over jobless footballers
PETALING JAYA: Football star Faisal Halim, who was the victim of a horrifying acid attack last year, is now sad about the plight of his peers. Faisal, who plays for Selangor, said today he has been distressed by the struggles of his fellow players, many of whom are jobless or are without clubs as the 2025-2026 M-League season starts next week. The local football fraternity knows this has much to do with the influx of foreign players into the M-League. "I'm sad to see that some of my friends, including senior players, still haven't found teams," said the 27-year-old Faisal. "Even if they're not with me at Selangor, we've all been working hard since we were young. Football is our careers, and we have to keep going." "With the increase in imports (15 foreign players per M-League team), we knew local players were going to be left out," said Faisal. "Now at least with this extra quota, there's hope. Even if they don't get to play right away (first 11), they'll have a team to train with, a job to keep them going, and a future to build."

IGP: Don't derail Zara Qairina probe with 3R speculation
KOTA KINABALU, Aug 2 — All negative comments regarding the student bullying case in Sabah that could cause anxiety and touch on 3R (Race, Religion, Royalty) issues should cease immediately. Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail stated that sufficient space must be given to the police to complete their investigation fully. 'I call upon all parties to give space to the police to continue the investigation,' he said. 'Negative comments and public perceptions linking this to 3R issues sometimes make it difficult for us to resolve the investigation and so on.' 'Therefore, I call on the relevant parties to refrain from making negative comments, comments that could create a bad atmosphere or anxiety by linking certain parties, politics, and also the palace to this issue, which I feel should be stopped,' he stressed. Commenting further on the bullying case involving the death of a student from Sipitang, the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, 13, on July 17, Mohd Khalid informed that so far, statements have been recorded from 60 witnesses, including students, staff and teachers. 'So, we have obtained many things, much information, and the investigation papers have been completed and submitted to the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman. We will then bring them to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) for further action,' he explained. Mohd Khalid, who was met by the media after paying a courtesy call on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah Tun Musa Aman on Saturday, said the visit aimed to discuss security and stability issues in Sabah.
