Indian-origin student breaks into energetic bhangra at University of Washington graduation

Hindustan Times18-06-2025
An Indian-origin college student broke into an impromptu bhangra routine as he walked up to receive his bachelor's degree at a graduation ceremony at the University of Washington Bothell. Arijeet Singh, who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, marked the occasion with an energetic dance routine as he walked up to receive his degree.
In a video posted on Instagram, Singh is seen stepping onto the graduation stage in traditional black robes, immediately breaking into bhangra moves as his classmates look on from behind. His spirited performance continued as he danced across the stage, enthusiastically shook hands with a faculty member, and leapt in the air before greeting another official. The crowd cheered as Singh joined his peers, now officially a graduate.
'POV: You turned up at grad,' he captioned the clip, which quickly gained traction online. Singh, who is based in Seattle and also creates content on social media, received a flood of congratulatory messages from viewers who praised his joyful expression.

However, not everyone appreciated the moment. Some critics accused him of breaking decorum during a formal event. 'I understand you're happy and thrilled about your huge achievement, it's completely valid. But I just want to remind you that graduation ceremonies hold a decorum of honour, gratitude, dignified pride and joy,' one comment read.
Singh's video follows another viral clip that showed a group of Indian tourists performing garba to the popular Bollywood song 'Chogada' on the viewing deck of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
The video sparked widespread criticism of the group after it went viral on Instagram. Many social media users were quick to point out that dancing in public spaces might disturb others or go against local rules.

Priyanka Chopra shares snippets from Kaminey with a special shout-out for Shahid Kapoor; fans say ‘Laut aao PC'

Priyanka Chopra Jonas, one of the finest actors of our country, is currently on a quest of global domination. After leaving an indelible mark in the Hindi film industry, she went on to win hearts over at Hollywood. While her Indian fans fully support her, it's been way too long since PeeCee was seen in a Hindi film and movie-buffs can't handle it anymore. We miss her, and Priyanka's recent posts taking trips down memory lane have only made netizens even more aware of her absence from Bollywood. The actor's latest photo dump is a tribute to her 2009 film Kaminey, co-star Shahid Kapoor and director Vishal Bhardwaj. Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor in Kaminey Along with snippets of her character Sweety Bhope and Shahid Kapoor as Guddu from Kaminey, Priyanka Chopra remembered how she was offered the film while shooting Dostana (2008) in Miami, Florida. Revealing how Vishal Bhardwaj flew down to meet her, PeeCee shared, 'I remember him telling me the story and I said, 'Well, she has approximately 8 scenes.' And he said, 'With us working on it, it will end up being so much more. Trust me.' And I did. He promised he would make something incredible for me after this in appreciation for doing the part. But honestly, I was just greedy to work with him. A few years later, we did 7 Khoon Maaf.' Kaminey completed 16 years last week. Giving a special shout-out to the team and her co-star Shahid, Priyanka shared, '#Kaminey remains a turning point in my career. I learned so much from the master @vishalrbhardwaj, how to research, prepare and then surrender to the part. @shahidkapoor was sensational in his double role. #AmolGupte was unforgettable. I also met @mubinarattonsey for the first time on this set. ❤️ Those were the times. 16 years ago!' Under this post, fans can't contain their emotions and are now requesting PeeCee to come back to Bollywood. One such fan stated, 'Watching these snippets just makes us realise what Bollywood is missing out on. The way its been feeding us mediocrity left right and centre these days. We as a generation truly miss your presence in Bollywood 🙌🔥.' A comment read, 'Please come back to Hindi cinema and yes watched all your movies.. Bengal Files: ‘Dragging down his image' — Gopal Mukherjee's grandson files complaint against director Vivek Agnihotri

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, director of The Bengal Files, faces more trouble as the grandson of Gopal Mukherjee — popularly known as 'Gopal Patha' — has filed a complaint at Bowbazar Police Station, accusing him of showing his grandfather in poor light. Shantanu Mukherjee, the grandson, alleged that the film had tarnished the image of his grandfather, who, he said, 'was a brave heart who had taken up arms to fight for the Bengalis.' He told The Indian Express, 'I have filed a complaint with my local police station (Bowbazar police station) and my lawyer has also sent a legal notice to the director for tarnishing the image of my grandfather.' According to him, Agnihotri neither took the family's permission nor approached them before making the film. 'The director never took any permission from us or even tried to meet us and speak to us regarding my grandfather. Derogatory terms were used against my grandfather,' he said. In his complaint letter, Shantanu wrote: '… Recent interviews of the said Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri about my late grandfather Sri Gopal Chandra Mukherjee have been spoken of and depicted in a very poor light and in an utterly defamatory manner. Till date, there has not been any research project on my grandfather across Indian universities and hence, each info available in the social arena stem from us and except it, all is hearsay.' The letter continues, 'What hurts us is that such efforts are not alien to us; previously, loads of despicable endeavours aimed at dragging down the image of my late grandfather Sri Gopal Chandra Mukherjee had occurred, leaving the entire family in utter shock. Not only his words or deeds, but his ideological conviction along with his interpretation of the historic struggle was also denigrated, and the same is occurring recurrently at present by the said Vivek Agnihotri, who is seen openly referring to my grandfather as a butcher and is seen talking about his involvement in alleged violent actions that reportedly took place during Direct Action Day, thus besmirching his reputation as a freedom fighter… I, therefore, request you to accept this complaint to stop this imminent unchecked enterprise of The Bengal Files and to take all lawful steps including lodging an FIR against the said film director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, the officials of his film production companies.' Meanwhile, Agnihotri claimed that the Kolkata Police had stopped the trailer launch of The Bengal Files — based on the 1946 Calcutta Riots — at the 'last moment' on Saturday afternoon. The event was to be held at a five-star hotel, but according to police sources, permission for the screening had not been granted despite Agnihotri's email request. The BJP condemned the move, while Agnihotri questioned whether Bengal followed a 'special constitution.' Written and directed by Agnihotri, The Bengal Files stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi, and is slated for release on September 5.
