ITV Coronation Street fans say 'she's a star' as they all issue same demand

Daily Mirror17-07-2025
Coronation Street viewers have been left in awe of the acting skills of one of the soap's youngest cast members, as they called for the character to be given a bigger role
Coronation Street fans are singing the praises of a 'star' performer following the ITV show's latest gripping scenes, where Mick Michaelis masterminded a daring prison escape, leading to an outpouring of support for the actress. The character made his first appearance on the cobbles in February, chasing after his wife, Lou Michaelis, as they set up their new life on the street.
Dubbed the fresh "nightmare neighbours" by fans, the couple were not shy about causing a stir, and they certainly lived up to that reputation during their brief time on the cobbles, just behind Gemma and Chesney Winter-Brown's place. More recently, Corrie has been dropping hints about the villain's comeback, following his arrest in May's episodes for the cold-blooded murder of the innocent PC Craig Tinker in a fit of drunken anger.
In a turn of events that unfolded on Monday (July 14), Mick managed to break free from prison and was plotting to flee with Lou and their kids - Brody, Joanie, and Shanice, reports the Manchester Evening News.
With nothing left to lose, the desperate criminal was a threat to anyone who crossed his path. His initial stop was Weatherfield High, but upon discovering that his daughter Joanie had been taken home from school by Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor), he made a beeline for the cobbles.
In league with Brody, the teenager alerted him to his daughter Joanie's presence at Weatherfield High, where she was having a trial day and being bullied by other children. He promptly arrived at the school.
However, Sally Metcalfe had already collected Joanie after the young girl was upset by cruel comments about her parents, given that Lou is now also incarcerated for her assault on Gary Windass.
Daniel and Mrs Crawshaw were taken aback when they encountered Mick, who demanded they hand over Joanie. A frightened Mrs Crawshaw informed Mick that Joanie had already been collected, but he didn't believe her, leading to a struggle over the phone.
After locking Mrs Crawshaw and Daniel in the office, Mick made his way to the street, where Sally was introducing Joanie to Underworld. DC Kit Green, aware of Mick's escape, was hot on his trail and spotted his old friend heading towards the factory.
Mick took Tim Metcalfe and Sarah Platt hostage in the office, and as Kit followed, tensions escalated between the adversaries when Mick realised that Sally had smuggled Joanie onto the roof in an attempt to flee.
Sally was seen comforting the young girl amidst the chaos unfolding below in the factory, with Mick stabbing Kit and leaving him fighting for his life as he ascended to the roof, where Sally was able to calmly confront him with some hard truths.
Sally's heartfelt promise to Mick to care for Joanie and Shanice, ensuring a brighter future for the girls as he surrendered to the police, marked a poignant moment in the show.
The performance of the actors, especially newcomer Savanna Pennington who portrays Joanie, has been met with widespread acclaim, particularly considering her recent on-screen debut.
One Reddit user was quick to express admiration: "Wow can i just say Joanie Michaelis acting tonight was amazing. Her first real appearance in the show and she done very well. Her ability to use her eyes to tell a story is great really looking forward to seeing her in the future!"
Another viewer said: "It a shame she missed out for being nominated for the Inside Soap awards as she wasn't really developed as a character on time, however hopefully she wins plenty of awards in the future as she is a star!" while a different account added: "Absolutely agree. I hope she stays with Sally. She's got great promise. Sally was superb tonight too."
Over on X (formerly known as Twitter), a different account put: "I'll be the one to say Joanie aka Savanna Pennington put on an impressive performance tonight for someone young and her first dramatic scenes on the show! #Corrie."
Meanwhile another user added: "Savanna Pennington who plays Joanie Michaelis is a brilliant young actress. They couldn't have paired her with anyone better than Sally Dynevor. Beautiful scenes between them tonight and hopefully more to come. #Corrie."
Savanna, the young actress behind Joanie, took to Instagram to share some exclusive behind-the-scenes snaps, inviting fans to "Swipe for some behind the scenes."
She added: "One of my favourite episodes yet! .. not bias. Thank you to all amazing cast and crew @coronationstreet for making it so much fun! Even though it may not look like I was having much fun I really was @thedramamob."
Sydney Martin, known for her role as Betsy Swain in Corrie, didn't hold back her admiration, commenting: "You smashed it sweetheart! Very talented! !"

Big Brother's new eye REVEALED: ITV recreate iconic logo once again ahead of upcoming series

As one reality show ends, another begins and fans are already counting down the weeks to the start of Big Brother. And the new Big Brother eye logo was revealed in an exclusive promo during Love Island's live final on ITV2 on Monday. The social experiment show will return this autumn for its third year on ITV, running for an extended total of seven weeks. This year's colourful and abstract eye is filled with multiple eye like marbles rolling around inside it like a maze. The short advert also includes eyes rolling down through multicoloured tubes as the new cast get ready to be filmed 24/7. ITV wrote: 'Eye spy with my little eye, something beginning with ready — Big Brother, the original social experiment, returns!' Hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best once again welcome an eclectic mix of strangers from across the UK who will all become housemates living under one roof. The nation's most renowned residence, the Big Brother house, will yet again play host to all the mischief and mayhem which has undergone a makeover that's easy on the eye. Viewers can expect more new twists and turns, elaborate tasks, intense nominations and live evictions as the cast of housemates go up against one another in a bid to be crowned the winner, and walk away with a life-changing cash prize. The reality TV juggernaut first aired on Channel 4 in 2000 before moving to Channel 5 ahead of its eventual axe in 2018. And since its triumphant return to screens in 2023 on its new home ITV and ITVX, Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother alongside the iconic Live Stream and Late & Live companion show, has been streamed over 100 million times. Last year's Big Brother saw Ali Bromley crowned series champion with a huge 51.9 per cent of the vote, while her house rival Marcello Spooks finished in second place, despite receiving boos from the crowd throughout the series. Earlier in the tense show, Hanah Haji and Emma Morgan were evicted from the Big Brother house, after Segun Shodipo and Nathan King became the eleventh and twelfth contestants to receive the fewest votes. During her stint in the house, Ali did ruffle feathers with her unbiased opinions on the other housemates, and in particular she clashed with Khaled Khaled who she accused of being 'fake.' Last year's Big Brother saw Ali Bromley crowned series champion with a huge 51.9 per cent of the vote Despite the pair parting on good terms when Khaled was evicted in week five, Ali revealed that their exchange at the show's final was 'brief.' Viewers were also gripped by Nathan's blossoming romance with Rosie Williams, but this proved to be short-lived as the pair split back in February, just three months after leaving the show. Nathan shared that they 'amicably' decided to part ways, after they both realised they were 'better off as friends'. Nathan and Rosie met when they entered the Big Brother house in October, and they previously told MailOnline they first grew closer after the first eviction, seven days in. While Nathan said he made it 'glaringly obvious' he wanted to pursue a relationship with Rosie on the outside, they finally got the chance to discuss their feelings when the house was evacuated due to a fire alarm. However, unbeknownst to them, their chat was still picked up by their microphones, and part of it was aired on Late and Live as part of a bombshell episode which revealed their romance for the first time.

Princess Andre shares sad reason she couldn't speak to dad Peter about mum Katie Price

Katie Price and Peter Andre's daughter Princess has revealed that she cried herself to sleep instead of speaking to her dad about her mum's issues Princess Andre has revealed the sad reason why she couldn't speak to her dad Peter Andre about her mum Katie Price following their bitter divorce. ‌ In her brand-new ITV series, The Princess Diaries, which airs on Sunday night on ITV, the influencer and model, 18, is set to open up about how her parents' estranged relationship has affected her through her childhood and teenage years. ‌ Earlier this summer, Princess announced the exciting news of the ITV show, which will offer a behind-the-scenes look into her life and burgeoning career as a model, focusing on her relationship with her family. It comes after her mum Katie, 47, revealed that Princess has moved out in another swipe at ex Peter. ‌ In the first episode of her reality TV series, Princess opened up about why she felt she could never speak to her dad, Peter, 52, about her mum following their bitter split and the fact they haven't spoken in years. During the episode, Princess speaks to her mum on the phone while she's away on holiday in Dubai. After the call, Princess admitted that she and her famous mum are more alike that people would think and revealed that they are now closer than ever - with her mum even baring all on FaceTime. ‌ "She had her boobs out," Princess laughed. "She's just casually out of the shower with her top off. Like, she just doesn't care. I never answer the phone to my mum when I'm around people. Because when she's on the phone, she's so unpredictable. "She just lives life. She actually doesn't care and I actually really, really, look up to that. I would love to have that mindset of 'I don't care', because deep down I always do care. I won't show any emotion but then I'll get to my bed and I'll cry and cry and cry. ‌ "On my own, I don't handle it very well but to other people I would seem to fine and so good." Princess went on to address not being able to talk to her dad Peter about her mum as she revealed that she has been in counselling. "I do have a counsellor and I do sometimes see her every now and again. But I don't feel like I can really ever talk so I just write everything down in my notes. I do wish that I could have had a more happier childhood," Princess admitted. The 18-year-old told the cameras that she had 'so much on her plate' when it came to navigating her childhood with two famous parents who didn't get along. The influencer went on: "I had so many things on my plate at such a young age. ‌ "I wish sometimes that it wasn't like that and I could have actually enjoyed it and not had things in the back of my mind so young. Obviously, I had amazing times in my childhood, I have so many amazing memories with my mum and my dad, but I also have lots of not-so-good memories of the time when my mum and Kieran split up." ‌ Katie and Kieran officially split in May 2018. While they were married from 2013 to 2021, they separated in 2018, with Katie accusing Kieran of cheating. The divorce proceedings were finalised three years later, in 2021 and the former couple share two children Jett and Bunny. "It happened when I was ten years old and he was in our lives for like five years. So, we got really close to him and obviously we loved him, but he did a lot of stuff and when they split up, everything kind of went downhill with my mum obviously being heartbroken. "She didn't deal with that in the best way. She went through a very, very, dark time which is understandable. But it was hard for me because I was around adult things that kids should never see. ‌ "And I think when we needed our mum there, she wasn't emotionally able to be there because she had so much of her own problems going on." Princess then confessed that she would bottle up her emotions in public but cry alone at home because she felt she was never able to open up to her dad about how she was feeling, because it was all down to her mum's actions and sadness. ‌ "I remember coming home from school, and I would literally just cry in bed at 11 years old. I would never go speak to my dad about it because the way I've grown up, I obviously know that my mum and my dad don't like each other, which is fair enough, they are not going to. "I could speak about my childhood and everything that happened and I would be absolutely fine, but then, once something sets me off, and when I actually deep everything, it makes me realise. Then it makes me think that maybe I'm still not over everything, and I'm still not healed from what has happened. ‌ "I wouldn't say I'm fully recovered from it, but mum is such a different person now. If you compare her now to how she was back then, she has genuinely really fixed herself. She has apologised to me and I never wanted an apology from her but I think it meant a lot that she kind of acknowledged it. "We're so close now and we do a lot of things together and we talk all the time. I love her. She's like my best friend." The Princess Diaries debuts on ITV2 at 9pm on Sunday.
