Retro-inspired mini dress is now £45 in Joanie's huge summer sale

Shopping writer Lauren wore the discounted design to a fancy dinner and received lots of compliments Fashion fans will likely already be familiar with Joanie, the vintage-inspired clothing brand that has carved out a loyal following for its retro silhouettes and playful prints. Think Twiggy-style minis, romantic puff sleeves and vibrant florals that look straight out of the '60s. The good news is the brand is currently running a huge sale, with up to 70% off a dreamy selection of dresses, skirts, blouses and more. Among the markdowns is one of my personal favourites: the Katy Blue Floral Ruffle Sleeve Mini Dress, £45, from £75. I wore it to a fancy dinner back in June and received so many compliments throughout the night, including from a fellow fashion journalist who genuinely thought it was a Pucci dress. It looks like something a shopper would find after spending hours scouring vintage shops. The striking floral print is a real head-turner - colourful without being garish and vibrant enough to stand out in a crowd of neutrals. The frilly ruffle sleeves add an extra touch of fun, while the mini hemline feels playful yet still sophisticated. Plus, it has pockets, which, as any girl knows, is always a bonus. Embracing Joanie's signature 60s vibe, I teamed it with green velvet Mary Jane shoes and a slick of bright red lipstick - I used No7's Pro Artist Matte Muse Lipstick in Red Carpet Ready, to be precise - for a Twiggy-esque look. However, it can be easily toned down with nude sandals and a clutch for a more casual outing. Shop the look £75 £45 Joanie Buy Now on Joanie Product Description For those that love the Joanie aesthetic, there are similar retro-forward labels, such as Sister Jane, which leans into whimsical ruffles, puff sleeves, and statement collars. The brand even has a preloved section on its website. Otherwise, Rixo is known for its beautiful hand-printed prints and vintage-inspired cuts. The brand offers a mix of stylish everyday wear, beautiful dresses, and wedding-ready bridal options. There are plenty of other standout pieces in the Joanie sale. I also like the look of the Daisy Flared Sleeve Ruffle Neck Wrap Blouse, now down to £47.40 from £74. It features a lovely daisy print and a side bow to accentuate the waist. The Bellatrix Short Sleeve Velvet Jumpsuit is also an excellent choice for Christmas parties and is now reduced to £35.60 from £89. However, despite mostly positive reviews, one person warned: "It's not for tall people. I'm 5'6" with a long body and short legs. The trousers are just about OK for me if I wear flats." Still, this sale is a treasure spot with a soft spot for the past. The sale is available to shop via Joanie here.

ITV Coronation Street viewers all make same demand as they gush 'she's a star'

Coronation Street fans have been left applauding one of the youngest cast members as they demanded the actress is given a bigger role Coronation Street fans are all gushing over one 'star' performer following the ITV show's latest gripping scenes where Mick Michaelis led a daring prison escape, leading to an outpour of support for the actress. Michaelis made his first appearance on the cobbles in February, chasing after his wife, Lou Michaelis, as they began a new life together on the street. ‌ The pair were not shy about causing trouble during their brief time on the cobbles, being dubbed by fans as the "nightmare neighbours" which was a reputation they certainly lived up to. The ITV soap has recently been dropping hints about the villain's comeback, following his arrest in May's episodes for the shocking murder of the beloved PC Craig Tinker in a fit of drunken anger. ‌ During Monday night's episode on July 14, Mick managed to escape prison and was planning to flee with Lou and their kids, Brody, Joanie, and nothing left to lose, the convict was a threat to anyone who tried to get in his way. His initial stop was to Weatherfield High, but upon discovering that his daughter Joanie had been taken home from school by Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor), he made a beeline for the cobbles, the Mirror reports. ‌ In league with Brody, the teenager alerted him to his daughter Joanie's presence at Weatherfield High, where she was having a trial day and being bullied by other children. However, Joanie had already been collected by Sally Metcalfe after the young girl was upset by mean comments about her parents, given that her mum Lou is now also incarcerated for her assault on Gary Windass. Daniel and Mrs Crawshaw were left stunned when they encountered Mick, who demanded they hand over Joanie. A terrified Mrs Crawshaw told Mick that Joanie had already been collected, but he didn't believe her, leading to a struggle over the phone. Mick locked the pair in the office and made his way to the street, where Sally was introducing Joanie to Underworld. ‌ Meanwhile, DC Kit Green, was hot on his heels after his escape and spotted his old friend heading towards the factory. Mick took Tim Metcalfe and Sarah Platt hostage in the office, and as Kit followed, tensions escalated between the adversaries when Mick realised that Sally had smuggled Joanie onto the roof in an attempt to flee. Sally's desperate promise to Mick to look after Joanie and Shanice and give them a better future if he surrendered to the police marked a poignant moment in the soap. The performance of the actors, especially new star Savanna Pennington who portrays Joanie, has been met with widespread praise, particularly considering her recent on-screen debut. ‌ Viewers took to Reddit to applaud the young star as one wrote: "Wow can i just say Joanie Michaelis acting tonight was amazing. Her first real appearance in the show and she done very well. Her ability to use her eyes to tell a story is great really looking forward to seeing her in the future!" Another chimed in: "It a shame she missed out for being nominated for the Inside Soap awards as she wasn't really developed as a character on time, however hopefully she wins plenty of awards in the future as she is a star!" ‌ Someone else added: "Absolutely agree. I hope she stays with Sally. She's got great promise. Sally was superb tonight too." Over on X, Corrie fans were also applauding the young actress. One wrote: "I'll be the one to say Joanie aka Savanna Pennington put on an impressive performance tonight for someone young and her first dramatic scenes on the show! #Corrie." ‌ A second echoed: "Savanna Pennington who plays Joanie Michaelis is a brilliant young actress. They couldn't have paired her with anyone better than Sally Dynevor. Beautiful scenes between them tonight and hopefully more to come. #Corrie." Savanna, the young actress behind Joanie, took to Instagram to share some exclusive behind-the-scenes snaps, inviting fans to "Swipe for some behind the scenes." She added: "One of my favourite episodes yet! .. not bias. Thank you to all amazing cast and crew @coronationstreet for making it so much fun! Even though it may not look like I was having much fun I really was @thedramamob." Sydney Martin, known for portraying Betsy Swain in Corrie, didn't hold back her admiration, commenting: "You smashed it sweetheart! Very talented!!"

Coronation Street's Mick star breaks silence as killer returns to cobbles

Coronation Street's Joe Layton addressed fans who reached out to him following his dramatic return to the ITV soap as it was confirmed that his character, Mick Michaelis, would be leaving the cobbles Coronation Street's Joe Layton has responded to the flood of messages he's received following his dramatic comeback to the cobbles, providing a lift amid news of his impending departure. Viewers of the ITV soap were under the impression that his character, Mick Michaelis, was securely locked up after being arrested for the savage murder of PC Craig Tinker back in May. However, during Monday's (July 14) episode of Corrie, the killer was seen making a daring escape from Weatherfield Prison in an attempt to reunite with his family, reports the Manchester Evening News. Mick was spotted crawling under a laundry van before later emerging onto the street, having been tipped off by Brody that Joanie was at Weatherfield High. When Brody, who is helping him escape, informs Mick - who has crawled under a laundry van before later appearing on the street - he shows up at the school. But Sally Metcalfe has already collected Joanie after the young girl is distressed by her peers' remarks about her parents, with Lou now also incarcerated for her assault on Gary Windass. Daniel Osbourne and Mrs Crawshaw are then taken aback when they come face to face with Mick, who insists they hand over Joanie. Upon learning that Joanie has left, Mick locks the pair in the office and makes a run for it. He soon heads for the street, where Sally is introducing Joanie to Underworld. With Kit now aware of Mick's escape, he's also on the chase and spots him heading towards the factory. Bursting into the factory to rescue Joanie, Mick took Tim and Sarah Platt hostage in the office. Kit was hot on his heels, and tensions soared as Mick realised that Joanie had been sneaked onto the roof by Sally in a desperate escape attempt. Sally could be seen attempting to soothe the young girl as pandemonium broke out below them, with Mick wounding Kit and leaving him in a critical condition as he pursued his quarry to the rooftop, where a terrified yet resolute Sally faced him down. In her final stand against Mick, Sally vowed to take care of Joanie and Shanice, promising them a brighter future, just as Mick surrendered to the police. Social media was abuzz with reactions, with heaps of praise being lavished on Joe's portrayal of Mick. Taking to his own social platforms, Joe expressed his gratitude for an Inside Soap Awards nomination and encouraged fans to vote, posting: "Very grateful for this nomination and all the kind messages you've sent about Mick the ******. Vote all thinks @coronation street," along with a link to the 2025 voting page for the awards ceremony. Joe's six-month tenure as Mick has earned him a nomination for Best Villain at the coveted awards. Competing for the title are Corrie's Claire Sweeney (Cassie Plummer) and EastEnders' Jonny Freeman (Reiss Colwell) and Navin Chowdhry (Nish Panesar). Also included in the category are Emmerdale's Ned Porteous (Joe Tate) and Oliver Farnworth (John Sugden), alongside Hollyoaks' Gemma Bissix (Clare Devine) and Jeremy Sheffield (Jeremy Blake).

Coronation Street stabbing in early ITVX release as local is rushed to hospital

This article contains spoilers for Monday's episode of Coronation Street, which airs tonight at 8pm on ITV1 or can be streamed now on ITVX. Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) has been seriously injured following an altercation with Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton). It all kicked off when the killer – who has been imprisoned for several months for murdering Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) – decided to escape from his cell. He was planning a new life with son Brody (Ryan Mulvey), wife Lou (Farrel Hegarty) and their daughters Joanie and Shanice. It wasn't long before Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) clocked the plan, and whisked Brody and Joanie off to Kit's flat. Nobody was aware of the full extent that Mick was prepared to go to reunite with his family, though. At the prison, he climbed under a laundry van before later dropping down into the street. Brody had tipped him off that Shanice was at Weatherfield High – and that was his first stop. After tormenting Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) and Lily Platt (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner), he locked Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) and Orla Crawshaw (Carla Mendonça) in the school office to ensure they couldn't alert authorities. He then rushed off to the cobbles, knowing that Joanie had returned from her taster day. Charging into the factory to find her, he held Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) and Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) hostage in the office. Luckily, Kit had been tipped off about his escape and followed suit. More Trending A huge argument escalated, and then Mick became aware that Joanie had been smuggled onto the roof by Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor). Racing up the staircase, Kit's behaviour then turned physical in a bid to stop him. Punches were thrown, and then a knife was produced. Unfortunately, Kit was on the receiving end. After being rushed into hospital, Bernie and Sarah watched on, hearing that he was in a critical condition.
