Weekend Wishlist: 9 fashion and beauty picks to obsess over
Say hello to our shopping team's favourite products this week, from Medik8, Mylee and more Somehow, it's almost June (where did May go?), which means summer is knocking, and so is payday for many of us. If you've been holding off on a little treat-yourself moment, now's the perfect time to finally hit 'add to cart.' If you need a little inspiration, our shopping writers, Lauren and Tiffany, are here to help. They've rounded up the best buys of the moment - from buzzy new launches to time-tested staples. This week's lineup includes a brand-new skincare saviour from Medik8 and a fresh, maple-flavoured addition to Laneige's cult lip glaze collection. Meanwhile, we've also pinned down a dreamy summer dress from Boden and a luxe foundation from Chantecaille that's worth every penny. So, what are you waiting for? Let's get scrolling. Lauren's picks: Roman Original's Shirred Midi Dress - £32 from £42 Roman Originals has dropped a gorgeous new boho-inspired range for summer - some of which looks much more expensive than the price tags suggest. This blue and white printed midi dress, for instance, resembles a Nobody's Child or Joanie effort, but it's only £32 in the sale. Its tile print design has us dreaming of turquoise oceans and sunny Greek islands, while its ruffled shoulder straps add a little elegance to the style. Shirred fabric is a winner for those who want to feel comfortable all day, especially when you're suffering from post-cocktail bloat. Additionally, it is made from 100% cotton, providing a soft and breathable feel. However, be cautious when washing, as cotton requires a little extra care to prevent it from shrinking. Medik8 C-Tetra Advanced 20% Vitamin C Gel-Serum - £69 Medik8, renowned for its scientifically-backed formulas and effective skincare products (think Crystal Retinal), is already a go-to brand for many seeking that radiant glow. So, the buzz was palpable when I heard about the brand's new C-Tetra Advanced 20% Vitamin C Gel-Serum. Customers have reported that the gel serum imparts a 'visible glow' within a week, with one user noting it 'gives a nice radiance to the face. ' Clinical trials revealed that 100% of users noticed noticeably brighter skin and a decrease in fine lines within seven days. So, what sets this serum apart from your typical vitamin C dropper? It utilises tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, a stabilised form of vitamin C that deeply penetrates to brighten and even out skin tone. Devotees can also look forward to hyaluronic acid for hydration, along with phyto-exosomes, plant-derived ingredients known for soothing inflammation and fortifying the skin barrier. Essentially, it's like your standard vitamin C serum - but amplified. If you're embarking on your journey to a glowing complexion, there are numerous other radiance-enhancing formulas to try. I also recommend Sunday Riley's C.E.O. Glow Oil, which is perfect for dry skin types, and Ole Henriksen's Banana Bright Vitamin C Serum for fading dark spots and improving fine lines. LANEIGE Glaze Craze Tinted Lip Serum, Maple Glaze - £19 Laneige has whipped up another treat for your lips - introducing Glaze Craze Tinted Lip Serum in Maple Glaze, the latest addition to its dessert-inspired lineup. Known for its delicious flavours, such as vanilla, berry, and matcha, the brand's newest creation is inspired by the smell and taste of a glazed doughnut. This high-shine serum delivers serious hydration, leaving lips plump, juicy and glossy with a warm, sheer tint that flatters all skin tones. Infused with lip-loving ingredients, such as polypeptides to plump and smooth, and housed in a plush, pillowy application, it's a proper sensory experience. I loved this when I tried it, but I do prefer a more angled applicator. Another favourite of mine is Paula's Choice Pro-Collagen Peptide Gloss, which features a sharper tip for precise application. WoodWick Candles - prices vary I'm a candle girl, through and through. From splurging on luxury picks from Jo Loves and D.S & Durga to stocking up on high-street favourites from Yankee Candle, I've never been one to resist a good scent. Recently, though, I've been fully converted to WoodWick candles - and now I can't stop burning them. If you haven't tried one yet, they're instantly recognisable thanks to their unique wooden wicks (hence the brand name). When lit, they crackle softly like a real fireplace - cosy, comforting and just the right kind of ASMR to start my day on a calm note. I'm almost at the bottom of my Rosewood candle, which has a beautiful, light scent that feels fresh yet grounding - ideal for summer. Next up is Solar Ylang, a slightly muskier scent with jasmine and creamy sandalwood. Beyond the scent, the large candles can go for up to 130 hours. And unlike some candles that fade into the background, these fill the whole room with a fragrance that lingers long after being blown out. Chantecaille Future Skin Oil-Free Foundation -£83 Chantecaille, the luxury beauty brand adored by celebrities, has recently relaunched its iconic Future Skin foundation, upgrading the formula with additional anti-ageing properties to address the skincare concerns of devoted shoppers. Beloved for its lightweight, second-skin effect, the oil-free foundation is a staple even among The Crown's makeup artists, who swear by it for creating "flawless, healthy and luminous skin" on the hit series. Beauty enthusiasts can grab the reinvented product exclusively online for £83, while Cult Beauty has slashed the price of the old formula by 15%. It is an expensive makeup, but it offers brightening, anti-ageing, and concealing coverage all in one pot. The rejuvenated range now boasts seven additional hues, ensuring perfect colour matches, and sports environmentally friendly glass and aluminium packaging. Moreover, the foundation is enriched with a 58% water component and nurturing botanicals like Spiriolela Polyrrhiza, calming Chaga Mushroom, and a Mastic tree alternative to retinol. Testers said it "delivers skin-like finish but better", and some noticed an "instant younger appearance." Boden Maya Kimono Jersey Maxi Dress, £102 (with code JM7D) Although the May bank holidays might be over, the summer weather has got me in a shopping mood for something fun and effortlessly stylish. With Boden dropping its new summer range, I spied this Maya Kimono Dress in a wide-sleeve kimono style, and this is sending dreams of being on The White Lotus series. Featuring a loud foliage trail print in contrasting pink and green colours, the dress features a low V-neckline, a gathered waistline, and every shopper's favourite - pockets. It's a versatile piece that can be worn on your next vacation. One delighted customer commented: "This is very wearable for a titch and does not swamp. Lovely colour, slightly low cut on the bodice, but not enough for anything to leap out and frighten the horses." I could see myself wearing this to UK seaside towns, spa resorts, and even a holiday outfit to southern Europe, and another shopper noted: "This stylish dress boasts 'clever shaping' to enhance your figure." Eylure Hybrid No210 False Lashes Pair and Lash Adhesive - £7 With makeup trends shifting towards a natural look, beauty lovers also prefer a lighter and more natural lash look. As a short-lash girl, I find going for a full, wispy look too dramatic - I would prefer shorter, lighter wings without that telltale falsie glare. The Eylure Hybrid No. 210 pair is a full-strip lash that offers natural volume with a light texture, creating a spikey, defined salon lash look. I am eager to try these, and I think they will be perfect for everyday wear and night-out glam. If full strip lashes are still too much, there is also an option for cluster lashes in different lengths so shoppers can customise their look and be their own lash tech. Eylure's Clusters Fluffy, £8, has 36 sets of cluster lashes, while Ardell's Naked Trio Lashes are at a lower price point at £5.95. Bijoux de Mimi Bangle Gold Star Bangle - £35.50 Colourful jewellery always puts a smile on my face, and Bijoux de Mimi's alluring gemstone pave bangle is a lovely statement piece of arm candy for summer. Since I picked this up last week, I've found this rainbow-coloured version in a gold-plated bangle always receives compliments. Crafted from 18K PVD electroplated stainless steel, the bangle also features a new and improved round clasp to stay securely in place on the arm. It is also water-resistant, hypoallergenic, and designed for extended wear without fading or tarnishing. Known as the "original colourful jewellery", the collection also features dainty huggie earrings, such as the Rainbow Huggie Earring Stacker Set, £47, a four-piece huggie earring stack that includes a cuff and chain, creating the visual effect of a fifth piercing. Mylee Gel Nail Wraps - £13.99 Article continues below Scrolling through Instagram, I'm seeing many posts about summer nail inspirations. Still, with no time for a manicure, I usually opt for an easy single-colour nail varnish to keep things simple. But Mylee's new gel nail wraps have got me excited. Available in various patterns, this Berries and Cream is my top pick. The check pattern and cherry figures are perfect for the upcoming Wimbledon season. The wraps are easy to use, and beginners can also purchase a Prep & Peel Kit, £24.99, which comes with a nail prep wipe, nail file, a pair of scissors for trimming excess gel nail wraps, a remover oil, and a metal cuticle pusher.

Joanie's gingham dress is the ultimate warm weather wardrobe staple
The Joanie Ashley Gingham Boat Neck Mini Dress is the perfect summer frock, and has been a go-to for me when the temperatures soar. Here's why I think it's worth the investment... Gingham is to summer what florals are to spring, and for fashion fans who can't get enough of the picnic-inspired print, I've found the perfect mini dress for the warm weather ahead. Sustainable fashion brand, Joanie, best known for its vintage-inspired designs, has released the Ashley Gingham Boat Neck Mini Dress, which taps into the summer trend and has fast become a go-to when temperatures soar. At £69, the dress comes in a red and off-white colourway, making it ideal for brightening up wardrobes for the warmer season. It's made from a textured organic cotton barkcloth, which not only means it's cool and lightweight, but doesn't really need ironing either. The fully-lined sundress boasts a boat neckline, a functional button-down front with vintage-inspired horn-effect buttons. But my favourite part is the elasticated shirring at the back waist to add shape and provide all-day comfort. While it's definitely got that nod to vintage style, it doesn't feel like you're playing dress up which can sometimes be a difficult balance to strike. I love the mini length which is a refreshing change to the brand's usual mid styles, and the patch pockets at the front give it a playful yet practical design. As someone who overheats quite easily, I enjoy the sleeveless design which minimises any sweating, and the patterned design is forgiving on any sweat patches that may have shown. The dress comes in quite a good range of sizes, particularly for those who are plus size, ranging from size 8-26. However, it is a little unusual that it doesn't go any smaller than an 8, with sizes 4-6 also being popular. Elsewhere, Nobody's Child has this Black Gingham Nova Mini Dress for £75. It comes in sizes 4-18 and has a square neckline and short puff sleeves. Abercrombie and Fitch's V-Neck Linen-Blend Mini Dress comes in at £52, comes in three lengths and has earned a 4.6 star rating from shoppers. Those on a budget, however, may prefer to look to ASOS, where this ASOS DESIGN wide strap channel waist mini sundress in pink and red gingham will set them back £26. As for the Joanie dress, it'll set fashion fans back £69, and in my opinion, it's worth every penny. I styled mine over the recent bank holiday and it earned me endless compliments from both family and friends, as well as strangers on the internet. I styled the dress with a pair of cream coloured cowboy boots - another trend I refuse to let go of any time soon - as well as my nan's woven wicker basket, tying in nicely with Joanie's retro aesthetic. After I shared the look on my social media, one commenter said: 'I feel like you belong in the Arizona sun in this outfit. Super cute!' Another added: 'Such a beautiful dress,' while a third penned: 'Gorgeous dress!' On the Joanie Clothing socials, it generated similar praise, with one fan writing: 'I'm obsessed. This is such a staple.' However, some have deemed the price point a little high for their liking, with one comment left under a post where the dress had been discounted for a limited time reading: 'Wow only £50 for half a dress. What a bargain.' Comparing Joanie to similar brands, £69 is in the mid-range for a sustainable fashion piece. The key is to look at its value in your own wardrobe and if it can be styled in different ways, which it absolutely can. On the Joanie Instagram, influencer Sophia Rosemary showcased how she styled the frock in four different ways. Similarly, on the brand's site, one shopper left a five star review where she suggested layering it over a blouse on chillier spring days. They said: 'I've had so many compliments on this dress! I'm 5'6 and it isn't too short. I'm between 10-12 and the 10 fits perfectly with a bit of room. It looks so chic; I've been layering it over a blouse as the weather is cooler, but I can't wait for it to be my summer holiday staple.' For me this dress is a go-to for warm weather plans, whether that's sitting in the beer garden with a nice cold drink, having a picnic in the park or, as I did over the bank holiday, exploring my favourite National Trust spots. My only complaint? I'd love to see this come in more colours, and to have it come in a maxi dress version, too.

Boutique dairy company in Havelock North to close down after 15 years
Origin Earth use refillable glass bottles and refillable milk kegs for cafes. Photo: Supplied / Origin Earth Havelock North-based boutique dairy company Origin Earth is closing down after 15 years of providing customers with locally sourced sustainable products. The business is owned by Joanie and Richard Williams, who produce a range of milk, cheese and yoghurt products that it sells in local supermarkets, farmers markets, and to cafes and consumers. Their refillable glass bottles and unique refillable milk kegs for cafes have proved popular - with the business reducing plastic in the region by 3500 plastic bottles a month. "I feel it's a tragedy because the brand is about improving the outcome for the planet and delivering highly nutritious food for our customers. "It is very, very sad. One of the things that's been a lovely part of what we've done is the relationship we've got with customers," Joanie said. In August last year Origin Earth decided to close, due to rising lease costs, predatory pricing by larger companies and a struggling economy. But after a huge public response, they managed to stay open. Al Bornie owns five cafes in Hawke's Bay and has been sourcing milk from Origin Earth since it opened 15 years ago. He told RNZ their closure was really disappointing, as he would have to go back to using plastic bottles of milk, instead of the refillable kegs. "It certainly helps with the waste and efficiency of it and for us it was always a point of difference - having a nice full cream alternative and knowing exactly where your milk comes from is a big thing for us," Bornie said. He said it had unique qualities and was of a high quality for customers. "We find the milk is amazing with coffee and really brings out the flavour... any alternative is not going to be as good," he said. And while it costs more than everyday dairy brands, Joanie Williams said Origin Earth was passionate about regenerative farming and being able to trace a product back to what farm, and even what cow, it came from. "The thing that people need to realise is it costs to care - when you decide to start doing positive things for the environment you don't end up with a cheap product," she said. Origin Earth produce a range of milk, cheese and yoghurt products. Photo: Supplied / Origin Earth In December 2024 Origin Earth terminated the lease on their Havelock North building with landlord Peak Vision Church, and said the catalyst was a 32 percent rent increase over three years. They continued on a month-by-month lease and were looking at selling the business, when in March the landlord sent a scanned letter saying the lease was ending and Origin Earth had to be out of the building by 31 May. "We asked for an extra couple of months which was declined. And they said we can take another four weeks. "But four weeks is not going to solve the problem we have of finding a building that not only meets what we want, but also meets the requirements of MPI and the auditing system," Joanie Williams said. Peak Vision Church spokesperson Pastor Jack Lamborn told RNZ it was the Williams who made the first move by terminating their lease in December. "They didn't give any explanation, which they don't have to. They just said 'we are not going to renew our lease'," he said. Origin Earth asked Peak Vision if they could keep operating while they tried to sell or find new premises. However, Lamborn said they had enquiries from people wanting to lease the building long term. "So technically we didn't have a contract with them since December. They were in there on a verbal arrangement. "We never broke any contract... all they needed was a month's notice... At the end of the day, we don't have to justify diddly," he said. Peak Vision said they had someone who wanted to move into the building, and did not want to buy the Origin Earth company. "We are under no obligation to only take someone into that factory that they can sell their business to. "Are we just meant to hang there forever and ever hoping Joanie can do something? No I don't think so," Lamborn said. Richard and Joanie Williams have listed their business and factory equipment on Trademe and are hoping someone might buy the Origin Earth brand. Photo: Supplied / Origin Earth Richard and Joanie Williams have listed their business and factory equipment on Trademe and are hoping someone might buy the Origin Earth brand. The Williams have listed their business and factory equipment on Trademe this week, hoping someone might buy the Origin Earth brand - which would include all its customers and IP. "We're keeping an extremely open mind to anything that could or might come along. My main focus now is to try and keep the brand going, where Richard and I end up is fine. "I want someone that is passionate about processing dairy and selling it locally," Joanie said. She urged people to consider buying local sustainable brands in a bid to help the planet. "It's going to cost a lot more to solve these problems if we don't start doing the little bit we can each day. Choosing to buy a cup of coffee from a cafe that doesn't use plastic bottles is a good start," she said. I'm a fashion writer - Cath Kidston's new Next collection marks promising new era for the brand
I'm a fashion writer - Cath Kidston's new Next collection marks promising new era for the brand The iconic British brand has been a go-to for vintage-inspired fashion for some time, but this latest collection has opened it up to a legion of new fans Cath Kidston Black Cherry Shirred Cami 100% Cotton Top (£52) (Image: Next ) Cath Kidston is best known for their whimsical florals and vintage-inspired designs, with an immediately recognisable style rooted in British heritage. The popular fashion and home brand recently launched a brand new collection of women's styles with high street retailer, Next, and it feels like something of a fresh chapter for the designer. While Cath Kidston had without doubt earned a loyal following throughout the decades, the brand struggled financially in recent years before it was bought out by Next for £8.5million in 2023. Since then, it's arguably steered away from its more 'marmite' prints for more universally loved, yet equally as authentic designs, bringing with it a wave of new fans. The romantic new collection retains the classic Cath Kidston charm we all can appreciate, and has teamed it with wearable silhouettes that are perfect for the spring and summer season. The collection has been described as 'a joyful celebration of floral artistry', which seems to carry the iconic brand into a new era. Read more: GAP's £75 denim bomber jacket is the perfect spring wardrobe staple Read more: Strictly's Amy Dowden reveals where she got her lemon print cardigan - and it is less than £50 I must admit, despite being a vintage fashion enthusiast, some of the older Cath Kidston pieces never really appealed to me. Their latest edit, however, has certainly captured my attention, with some pieces even tempting me to hit 'add to basket'. Characterised by elevated florals, feminine tailoring and statement prints, prices range from £12 to £135, meaning there's something for all budgets. For those who adore Cath Kidston's aesthetic but want alternatives, brands like Joanie, Laura Ashley, and Sezane offer similarly feminine, vintage-inspired options. Yet, there's something about Cath's long history and distinct identity that's drawn intrigue in the new collection. As a fashion writer, I've trawled the collection and selected five of my favourite pieces ranging from light spring jackets to pretty blouses and dresses. Cath Kidston Pink Spot 100% Cotton Shirt Dress (£95) Cath Kidston Pink Spot 100% Cotton Shirt Dress (£95) (Image: Next ) Polka dots have been a classic since the dawn of time and are a firm favourite with British Royals, including Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton. And in 2025, the print is perhaps more popular than ever. The Pink Spot Shirt Dress takes the timeless dotty design and reinterprets it in a new pink and black colourway - a refreshing take on the sea of white and black spots we're seeing a great deal of. Made from 100% cotton, it's a lightweight, breathable style perfect for warmer days. The fit-and-flare silhouette, crafted with a flattering box-pleat skirt and a laid-on waistband, is 'flattering' and elegant, blending comfort with design. Like the majority of the Cath Kidston x Next collection, it comes in sizes 8-24, but only in a regular length, which petite or tall shoppers may find slightly more restrictive. Cath Kidston Ecru Knit Vest (£58) Cath Kidston Ecru Knit Vest (£58) (Image: Next ) Knitwear for the warmer months may seem counterintuitive, but the Roots Knit Vest is the perfect layering piece for mild British weather. The soft wool mix means it gives it a cosy feel that will carry right the way through to autumn and winter, but it's the floral embroidery that lends itself to the spring season so nicely. The contrast blanket stitching on the sleeves? Stunning. The transitional piece has already been praised by one shopper, who said: 'Beautiful quality and light weight but warm goes with anything. Fits true to size if you'd like a looser fit size up.' Cath Kidston December Floral Quilted Jacket (£72) Cath Kidston December Floral Quilted Jacket (£72) (Image: Next ) The high street has been awash with quilted jackets this year - and for good reason. They're a stylish layering piece for cooler temperatures, adding practicality to an outfit without compromising on style. The December Floral Quilted Jacket, from Cath Kidston's collection is made from pure cotton with a soft, tactile quilted finish. Praised by shoppers for its 'lovely colours' and the fact it's 'great for spring', it features a decorative floral design in pretty pastel hues, and is finished with patch pockets to keep essentials close to hand. If I could only add one item from the range to my own wardrobe, it would probably be this. Cath Kidston Black Cherry Shirred Cami 100% Cotton Top (£52) Cath Kidston Black Cherry Shirred Cami 100% Cotton Top (£52) (Image: Next ) Shirring is perhaps one of my favourite features of summer wardrobe staples. Perfect for warmer days, the Black Cherry Shirred Cami delivers just that, making it an incredibly comfortable piece designed to be worn in the height of summer. Made in a cooling cotton poplin, but features a delicate scalloped lace edge and a striking cherry motif on a dark base. As such, it would appear that cherries are set to remain a trend in fashion as much as they have beauty this year. This top is really versatile and can be paired with denim, linen trousers, or cotton skirts for a range of chic looks. Cath Kidston Blue Dilly Dolly Button Down Dress (£120) Cath Kidston Blue Dilly Dolly Button Down Dress (£120) (Image: Next ) Article continues below Arguably the hero piece of the collection, the Blue Dilly Dolly Dress features a feminine rose design in shades of blue. The tea style dress is cut in a flattering maxi style with a flowy flared skirt and contrasting frill collar and sleeves in a polka dot print. At £120, it's one of the pricier pieces, so perhaps an investment for true Cath Kidston fans. For a similar feel at a lower price point, fashion fans may like Roman's Navy Floral Print Frill Detail Midi Dress, which comes in at £38. Or you can shop the full Cath Kidston x Next collection here.
