Celtic and Rangers Champions League play-off dates confirmed
The draw in Nyon on Monday morning laid out the possible path to the September group stages for both Old Firm sides.
Celtic went into the seeded Champions Path side of the draw and will hope to reach the revamped group stages once more. Last season, they emerged from the single 36-team table with a 21st-place finish.
The Parkhead side were knocked in heartbreaking fashion after Bayern Munich scored in injury time to win their play-off tie 3-2 on aggregate.
They will face either Kairat or Slovan Bratislava in the play-off, with the first leg at Parkhead, on Wednesday, August 20, and the return leg a week later on Tuesday, August 26.
To reach the play-off stage, Russell Martin's side must first defeat Viktoria Plzen, whom they host on Tuesday night, before the return leg on August 12.
Rangers have been drawn against Austrian side RB Salzburg or Club Brugge of Belgium, and could face them on Tuesday, August 19, with the return leg a week later on Wednesday, August 27.
The winner of the third round tie will play the first leg at home.
Celtic, and Rangers, should they get there, will be allowed to postpone their Scottish Premiership fixture scheduled between both legs of the play-off tie following an SPFL rule change.

'We had one draw away, we lost 1-0 at home and then it was quite big losses in the other games. 'In that moment we knew we needed to change something for the final. 'In that time it was our time to win so let's see what happens on Sunday.' The Swede changed his tactics for Hampden and got the better of Rodgers' men, just after they had been dismantled 5-1 at Pittodrie in the league. Thelin, when asked how he turned it around, answered: 'It is better to ask the players maybe. 'We were really focused and changed some tactics and strategy in the game and created a belief around that. 'Sometimes it happens that you need some luck also of course but it was all really aligned. 'A strong belief inside the club that day for the final from the chairman to everybody else. 'That was the really unifying situation, the effort of the players and the confidence going into the penalties, also the saves from Dimi of course.' Aberdeen are also edging closer to who they will face in the Europa League play-off. They play the winners of the FCSB and Drita tie. Thelin watched the Romanians come out on top in a five-goal thriller. 'The match was changing quite a lot as they were 2-0 down and then it turned around to 3-2,' Thelin admitted. 'It is difficult to see who is going to make it but it will be fine to play against both of these teams.'

THE PREVIEW: Aberdeen shook up Celtic in cup final ... are Jimmy Thelin's men capable of a repeat at Pittodrie?
Having waited more than three decades to see their team lift the Scottish Cup, Aberdeen supporters will be more than willing to wait a few weeks before casting any serious judgments on their side at the start of this new season. Which is why very few, if any, will be hitting the panic button after watching the team open up their Premiership campaign with a lacklustre defeat at Hearts on Monday evening. Truth be told, neither the result nor the performance came as any great surprise. The Dons came into the opening weekend as one of just two top-flight teams — Celtic being the other — not to have played any competitive football over the summer. The dramatic penalty shootout victory over the Parkhead side at Hampden in May meant there were no Premier Sports Cup or perilous European qualifiers to worry about in July. That was an added bonus at the time, no doubt, but the players were always likely to rock up at Tynecastle a little undercooked as a result. There's no question that Derek McInnes' Hearts deserved to win that contest. They won't be competing for the title this season — despite Tony Bloom's admirable optimism — but there is still a whole lot for fans to be excited about. That being said, some of the praise their team received on Monday was perhaps a little over the top. The opening quarter aside, there wasn't a whole lot between the two teams. Hearts took their chances, Aberdeen didn't. Therein lies the glaring issue for the Dons, and a source of reasonable cause for concern going forward. Attacking options are very much in short supply following a series of notable departures at the top end of the park. Pape Gueye, Oday Dabbagh and Kevin Nisbet are no longer at Pittodrie, while Kusini Yengi is the only recognised No 9 to arrive through the door. Safe to say the former Portsmouth striker has a fair bit of work to do to convince the Aberdeen punters that he can cut it. It's been hard to understand why so much trust has been put in a player who barely got a sniff at Portsmouth last season. Even when he did, he failed to find the net. Aberdeen's scouting department must have seen something they liked, however. Even if the rest of us haven't. The Australian's close-range miss midway through the second half at Tynecastle was brutal. As were the subsequent pelters hurled in his direction. On a more positive note, his compatriot Nicolas Milanovic — signed from Western Sydney Wanderers — looked sharp. Sunderland loanee Adil Aouchiche also showed some decent touches here and there. But the Dons clearly need strengthening up front before the end of the month. A creative spark in the middle wouldn't go amiss either, with Jamie McGrath now thoroughly enjoying himself down the road at Hibernian. Mind you, more bodies are needed across the board if Jimmy Thelin wants his squad to be competitive on multiple fronts. Two Europa League qualifiers are to come before the end of August against either Steaua Bucharest or Drita of Kosovo (the Romanians are 3-2 up after the first leg), with plenty more midweek fixtures on the schedule before Christmas. The club struggled to juggle European and domestic duties when it was last required two years ago, winning just three of their first 14 Premiership matches. It would be a shame to see a similar story unfold this time around. Thelin has — quite rightly — got more than enough credit in the bank after guiding the Dons to their first silverware since 2014. A remarkable 11-game top-flight unbeaten run to kickstart his reign also helped his cause. After St Mirren put an end to that sequence last November, however, he has overseen just five league wins. With Celtic next up on Sunday, he will do well to make it six this weekend. Brendan Rodgers' men hardly set the heather alight in a narrow win over the Buddies on flag day, but they boast a formidable record against the Dons in recent years. A largely second-string side took five off them on league duty in May. In fact, you have to go all the way back to February 2016 to find the last time Celtic tasted defeat in the Granite City. Incidentally, James Forrest, Callum McGregor and Kieran Tierney were all on the park that day. Graeme Shinnie started for the hosts, too, as Ronny Deila's charges were put to the sword. Blueprints for success against Celtic have been hard to come by since then. It beggars belief there was talk of Martin Boyle not being handed a new deal at the tail end of last season. Having played a major part in Hibs' revival under David Gray, he once again underlined his value by netting his 100th and 101st goals for the club in a stunning Conference League qualifying victory against Partizan Belgrade on Thursday. While it was by no means a one-man show in the Serbian capital — Kieron Bowie and Rocky Bushiri also deserve a special mention — the 32-year-old's contribution in front of goal has put his side in a scarcely believable position going into the second leg in Edinburgh this week. Boyle, who was also captain on the night, became the first Hibs player since Derek Riordan to reach the prestigious milestone, and has now joined the likes of the Famous Five as an undisputed club legend.

ST MIRREN took Celtic to the wire on the champions' flag day last weekend and I'm backing the Buddies to see off Motherwell on Saturday at a general 21/20. Stephen Robinson's side looked like earning a second successive draw at Celtic Park before a deflected shot denied them a point and the home side were dragging the ball to the corner flag to waste time late on. Motherwell warmed to their task against a ropey Rangers side last weekend but Jens Berthel Askou says he only has one fit striker in Apostolus Stamatelopoulos and Saints can take advantage. Aussie midfielder Keanu Baccus has returned to Saints from Mansfield to boost the Paisley options, but last week's players kept Celtic at bay for 87 minutes and they're fully capable of turning their attentions to banking an early home win. LIVINGSTON came back from two goals down to earn a draw at Kilmarnock last week and Davie Martindale's side can boost their tally to four points with a win over visiting Championship winners Falkirk. The two promoted sides are no strangers to one another after battling it out four times last season and it's Livingston who took 10 of the available 12 points as the Bairns saw off everyone else on the way to the title. Both teams will be very similar to last term as the bosses juggle options before the end of the transfer window and Livi's familiarity with their new surface can give them an edge to win this one at 13/8. I've dealt with the other four Premiership matches elsewhere and four homes with St Mirren, Livingston, Rangers and Hibs pays out at 9/1 with the two away tips, Celtic and Hearts making up a 6-timer paying out at 26/1. It's difficult to call the match of the day in the Championship despite Ross County and St Johnstone hogging the Friday night spotlight but I'm backing AYR to beat Raith and DUNFERMLINE to get the better of Airdrie. I honestly thought Ayr would be odds-on to beat Rovers at Somerset so the general 11/10 gets Scott Brown's side into the Acca, but Neil Lennon's players will be slight odds-on to beat the Diamonds at 10/11 and the Pars' League Cup form gives them the edge. Partick against Morton looks draw material at 21/10 and I'm taking the same view about Queen's Park at home to Arbroath at 23/10 after both sides banked a point against Raith and Ayr last weekend. Wanderers' Kazakhstan millions didn't kick-in for last week's opening day defeat at Bradford but STOCKPORT chased home Birmingham and Wrexham last season and the Hatters can make it two from two at 17/10. League Two MK DONS could only manage an opening day goalless draw with Oldham but expectations might have been overly high for that one and Paul Warne's side look well worth a second chance to get a first win at 13/8 Saturday SINGLE STENHOUSEMUIR only went down 1-0 at home to Motherwell last month and last week's good show against Alloa points to 2/1 success against Cove Rangers today. Weekend ACCA No losers last week but three draws killed the bet. All five teams winning this weekend pays out at 33/1 St Mirren 21/20 Livingston 13/8 Ayr 11/10 Stockport 17/10 Rangers 1/7 RANGERS V DUNDEE 5.45pm Premier Sports Russell Martin's players will take a 3-0 lead to Plzen on Tuesday and that cushion should ensure the home side can concentrate on justifying their position as the shortest price on Saturday's coupon. 2/13 and 1/7 is the price for punters to top their afternoon accas in the 5.30 kick-off and everything we've seen and heard from Dundee would point to that 14% top-up looking safe enough. The new Ibrox boss read the riot act after last week's draw at Motherwell and it's almost unthinkable that Rangers could slip up after a superb midweek performance against Viktoria. ABERDEEN V CELTIC Sunday 12.30pm Sky Sports I didn't fancy the Dons at Tynecastle last week but the cup winners are back on home soil against the champions and the 6/1 chances can get on the scoresheet at least with BTTS at 7/10. Celtic landed last week's recommendation of winning to NIL at Evens against St Mirren and while they needed most of the game to score, Saints were doughty opponents on day one. Celtic are general 2/5 shots with Bet 365 best at 4/9 and winning-goal substitute Luke McCowan can probably rely on some of the more heavy hitters to earn Celtic all three points at Pittodrie. DUNDEE UTD V HEARTS Sunday 3pm United have set themselves up for further Conference League progression after Thursday's 2-2 draw in Vienna but the 3/1 Terrors could fine Hearts too strong at Tannadice on Sunday. Derek McInnes' new-look Jambos landed the money for us with last weekend's win over Aberdeen at 11/10 and that fifth successive win can tee up a sixth on Tayside. Jim Goodwin's players were clawed back twice to draw 2-2 at Falkirk last week and I fancy Hearts to keep new investor Tony Bloom happy with another three points at 10/11. HIBERNIAN V KILMARNOCK Sunday 3pm I tipped Hibs at 4/5 to win at Dundee last week and two goals from Martin Boyle in Belgrade will have the home fans rocking for Sunday's visit of Kilmarnock. Killie were pegged back by Livingston after going 2-0 up at Rugby Park last weekend and George Stanger's red card will keep him out of what already looked a tough trip to Easter Road. David Gray will have to balance this game with Thursday night's visit of Partizan but their two-goal Euro cushion is better than they could have wished for and Hibs can bank another three points here at 7/10.
